Adam Johnson pleads guilty...

Discussion in 'General Football & Other Sport' started by Ghost of Barry Endean, Feb 10, 2016.

  1. To one charge of underage sex and one of grooming. Grooming. Oh dear.

Footballer Adam Johnson has admitted one count of sexual activity with a child and one count of grooming at Bradford Crown Court.
However, he continues to deny two charges of sexual activity with the girl.
Sky's Martin Brunt said: "Until this morning, since his arrest last March, Adam Johnson had denied four charges - but after some legal argument this morning, two of the charges were put to him again and he has admitted them."
Our Crime Correspondent added that although few details are known about the sex charge he has pleaded guilty to, it did involve the kissing and touching of his victim.
Johnson, 28, has admitted to knowing that the girl was under 16 at the time.

Grooming. Millionaire footballer with trophy girlfriend went to all the trouble of grooming an underage girl for sex.

The girlfriend's inane grin on the way into court said it all. She doesn't care that her meal ticket is a admitted paedophile.

    Will Sunderland get rid ?

Guess it depends if he found guilty of the other charges but admitted 2 of them isn't good of course.

Few negative headlines for the game now.

Bl**dy hell, the case against him must be watertight if he's admitted to knowing she was under 16. He's ****ed, it's a game changer.

That is the critical piece of information. We need to be sure that this has been confirmed before we cast judgement.

Can I just ask everyone to be careful what they write as this is a current court case.

We need to be sure that what has been confirmed? That he has admitted knowing the girl was under 16 at the time?

    (From http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...ilty-to-sexual-activity-with-15-year-old-girl)

That's the charge, and that's the plea. He has admitted meeting with her to carry out sexual activity knowing that she was under the age of 16.

Also, obviously, this is a terribly sad case. I found out something similar about a friend of mine some years ago and it was hard to understand. I still don't fully understand.

Honestly. You look back at those old Boothroyd teams and Clarke Carlisle was the only normal one in there.

How vacuous and shallow do you have to be to stay with a man who you know attempted to seduce a child behind your back? Just for money. Makes me just as sick as what Johnson himself did.

Good grief. I'd assumed this was a "meet in a nightclub not knowing she was under 16" job. Sounds pre-meditated if it happened over 2 months.

Maybe he confessed to his girlfriend, explained he made a mistake and wanted to reform, she said she'd support him if that's what he was going to do, hence the suprise guilty plea.

He did it, but making comments about his partner is not fair at this point.

I agree we have to be wary of making sweeping statements/judgements about his partner without knowing the full story. That said, I don't think I could stay with someone who had done what he has admitted to doing.

I just don't get it. Johnson and others in his profession have god knows how many women throw themselves at them all the time. Over the years have seen various footballers out in clubs and it is always embarrassing how many girls just hang around them all night, they have their pick, so why risk it all picking someone underage. And like others on here, I thought he didn't realise her age, the fact he did - according to the charge, and plea - definitely throws a whole new light on it. Really cannot understand it at all.

I'd imagine they'll sack him. I know clubs stand by players who do wrong (ours included), but to me this is something a club can't accept.

TBH we should put in a cheeky bid and try to buy him while his stock is low. We could sell him for millions in the future after picking him up for next to nothing. I'm sure Sunderland want to offload him!

This is what I thought was probably the case, however he has now admitted his guilt, therefore he now deserves all the derision that a lot of you were already giving him.

However, I still maintain that many of you were wrong to assume his guilt, and he should have been assumed INNOCENT until proven guilty!

Most people weren't doing anything other than pointing out signing someone due to go on trial at the Crown Court was probably an unwise move. Guilt or innocence was irrelevant but you never quite twigged that.

Oh they have very good reason for that :sign13:

You said people should have assumed he was innocent, I don't know why you're the authority on that? The people who assumed he was guilty had every right to assume that and have been proven right. Surely even you can understand my point? You're probably right that I don't get your point seeing as you spout an incredible amount of *******s!

Totally understand your caution, so fair enough. In this case it looks like a matter of public record though so think it's all fine. Completely understand why you wouldn't want to have anything potentially libellous on here though of course.

The thing that isn't totally clear is the details of which of the four charges he's admitted. Headlines just link all of the charges to him and a pleas and let us join the dots. They give us just enough information to get the traffic to their sites or to buy their papers.

It's clear he's had relations with a minor, evidence proves this and it's not worth his while pleading not guilty to this specific fact. The crucial factor is did he know she was a minor beforehand? I can't see anywhere where that specific fact has been confirmed or denied regarding his latest plea. We just need to be careful condemning a man without having the full details especially considering it's such serious case.

Don't get me wrong I'm not defending him. I'm defending the fundamental premise innocent until proven guilty.

If I'm told something is a free sample in a shop and it's a reasonable assumption to draw that conclusion. When I take it and I'm charged with theft, in my eyes I'm innocent.
