I genuinely believe he'll learn from this. From what's come out of the courtroom I get the impression he's a bit of a dumdum, rather than any harsher adjectives.

 

I don't know if there's a written precedent, but certainly character doesn't seem to come in to play. Look at the amount of times John Terry still got selected after various indiscretions, and Deeney has certainly tried to redeem himself over the last few years.

I don't understand this. How do you strip caps? He earned them by virtue of appearing for England, not by refraining from digitally engaging with 15 year old girls.

Do they physically repossess the cloth hats or strike his name from the record or what? Seems like a pointless gesture to me. 6 years in prison will do the trick more effectively.

 

Now this scumbag should get ten (and I mean ten) ... but it illustrates my point, AJ must feel hard done by for a bit of what's known as "heavy petting" with almost an adult girl (legal definition not mine) who wasn't complaining at the time.

 

It certainly doesn't seem consistent. How one person can get 4 years for a 12 year old versus another getting 6 for a 15 year old who was (apparently) bragging about it is beyond me. I don't want to sound all "Godfather", but I think most of us would agree a 12 year old is a far worse offense than a 15 year old who is about to turn 16. Clearly neither is morally right, but one seems far more wrong than the other.
