Just so gutted. Got to man up for the play offs but I'm confident we'll at least get to the final.

    I remember the name too.

He will be ok hopefully...its not like that error cost us the promotion as we needed another goal anyway.

Did i miss something? We were drawing 1-1 when Bonham made his error, not helped by Leeds breaking through our midfield as if it wasn't there (which it wasn't).

Had we blown a 2-1 lead in injury time, I'd understand the dismay.

People need to remember bonhams age. The lad must have **** himself coming on in such circumstances. He'll probably get quite depressed too which is a shame

That's bang out of order, he's only a kid, probs didn't even have his gloves with him, give him a break ffs, well done for just shooting him to bits. Deeney is to blame, he ran 30yards to lump him in the air what an idiot!

The fact of the matter is, if we didn't concede late at Wolves, or Burnley we'd be up. Bonham made mistakes but we didn't miss out on auto's because of him.

I know I'm not a pro footballer, but If I was i his position I wouldn't have been able to think straight at all. The first goal, was as much Ekstrand's fault as his as well. Ekstrand needed to shout at him, or just hoof it away. Thats what happens with a young team though, they make mistakes. They've been excellent most the season, so i can't blame them.

At 1-1 we still had that opportunity to score the dramatic winner. The unfortunate Bonham error killed the game stone dead, so I can understand the dismay.

I maintain he should never have been put in this situation in the first place. Bonham is going to be a very good keeper, now his reputation has taken a big hit and this will stick with him for a very long time.

Funny how neither you nor anybody else mentioned Bonham during the week. It was a freak set of circumstances that led to him playing. Were we meant to sign a 3rd keeper on the rare off chance we lost two within 20 minutes?

Hindsight is easy after an event.

I have to disagree. The keeper has to be decisive and with the whole pitch in front of him should be making the call as to who deals with the ball. Ekstrand doesn't know if there's a Leeds player still there and when he sees Bonham start to come assumes he'll just carry on and collect the ball. The subsequent moment of indecision by Bonham did for them both. That all said I would have expected Doyley and Ekstrand to demonstrate some professional experience and protect their young goalkeeper by dealing with that situation 30 yards out so it didn't come to that.

I would agree with you if it was Manu in goal. I think if your Ekstrand you have to think it's a 19 yr old lad who's probably bricking it and you've got to take control. Or alternatively scream at him telling him to collect it.

How many teams have three experienced keepers available to play on match day?. Not many. I'm sure the lad is feeling down and has been crucified on twitter but the fact is the team didn't create much in the second half and although he killed off any lingering hope of getting the win it wasn't looking likely that we would score.

  15. GoingDown

Pretty sure Bonham was in the second goal before the game making some great saves from the first team.

But when the spotlight is on, thousands of fans behind you, millions watching across the world, tens of millions of pounds all suddenly put on you, a 19 year old who hadn't even played a first team game, things were always likely to go wrong.

Should never have been in that situation.

  16. UEA_Hornet

I don't disagree. As I say Ekstrand 'assumed' Bonham would do something. Fact is it should have been dealt with miles away from the edge of the box. Even if at that moment, with a brand new out of the box goalkeeper on, Ekstand and/or Doyley had to foul their bloke or boot the ball over the goal for a corner.

Yeah, it was inexperience all round. I think that's been our biggest problem this season-inexperience.

Agreed it should have been dealt with earlier but it was just very unlucky that Ekstrand's clearance hit Poleon and was deflected towards the goal.

3 experienced goal keepers would be a big ask for the best teams in the world but watford , sorry. Bonham one hell of a game to start with. Bounce back mate. It's a quick learning curve for you but I am sure you will come back stronger. You orns.

I take your point, but it is difficult to see how that could have been avoided. The only option would be to have a journeyman pro who was willing to sit on the sidelines all season, for a last wage before retirement. That may need to be considered for next season, with Bonham going out on loan.

Really was exceptionally freak circumstances today though.

yes i can see clearlythe comparison and Plumley was the chief executives son at the time. He never played agin for watford - i fully understand your reasoning behind the Plumley add in to the name - you never want him to play for watford again because he made two mistakes in your opinion that cost wfc promotion like Plumley cost wfc the fa cup te against the mighty spurs...

Ok i see now completely your argument. You can live for ever and be gutted for ever as it seems you hold Maggie to account, poor Plumley and now young Bonham for you guttednes and bad feeling toward things that have gone against you in your life.

I like you and actually will apologise for the die bit as thats not good i agree.. i enjoy your deep rooted anger at everyone who makes a little mistake tho - amusing . i type badly and with mistakes add me to your list of guttedness and hate.

so sorry to put death upon you.

that post was irony mate - use the ignore button and you won't have to suffer my rebellious nature - i refrained from using the C word - that was difficult.

I would like to draw your attention to my very positive posts and very supportive posts of wfc and about believing wfc will go up and as supporters supporting the team by getting behind the players and manager.

i agree with the fat (i'm making an assumption there, but i know i'm right) middle aged people. they know what the ups and downs, the responsibilities and expectations and, of course, the right and wrong actions of professional football. hearing them imparting advice from the stands and on internet message boards is what makes my football watching experience so joyful.

So despite me saying several times in this thread that Bonham's costly mistakes today don't mean he won't be a good keeper in the future, you've decided I never want him to play for Watford again. It's tough to argue with such logic. I've explained several times why I think his performance today was Plumley-esque and there's nothing to be gained from repeating it.

The constant references from various of my cursers and death wishers to "unions" and "communists" clearly demonstrate that there's something else going on besides the supposed outrage at my comparison between two hapless WFC keepers past and present.

Thanks at least for the apology for the death wish, although with nine 'likes' to your post it seems my early death would be pretty popular!

I've been quite taken aback at some of the extremely foul-mouthed posts and pictures that have been left undeleted by the admin here and have had to block/ignore several of the most infantile and offensive contributors.

I don't want to seem like some prissy old maid, but my 14 year old lad looks at this board sometimes and I don't want him seeing stuff like that on what's supposed to be a family friendly football forum

based on your opening post yes - the fsact this opening post has been challenged and as you have noted the dslikes - maybe other people all see the same - yes later you have added furtherence to the original statement which had no other meaning for some one else reading it as to say Plum;ey/Bonham feck ups dont ever play for wfc again. your latter posts i have little problem tho having seen at closer hand the first goal just now i don't attach any blame to bonham - ekstrand should have dealt with it and not pansy around trying to tap it away.

FF was at fault for fann.ying around and losing the ball to allow leeds to break and score. Many refs would have pulled that foul up as well -so well done the ref for the correct decision allowing leeds to play advantage.

apologies to your kid if he sees this fred - however you did start the fred and you also like feed back - and a debate. Lfe is ugly and abusive something we as individuals have to deal with - an emotional day - no passion would not be good either.

I've pretty much stayed out of this thread. Then I saw this post.

Your OP didn't upset me at all, really. It was a further post where you devoted several paragraphs to criticising the young Bonham.

Sometimes people need to look at the consequences of their actions and words - and by being so vitriolic to unexperienced young people can have traumatic effects on their confidence - and can affect their entire lives. I know you don't care about this, and you've already explained why. That is your choice, but I find it particularly distasteful.

You then complain that posters have mentioned your Union and communist sympathies. Well why do you proudly call yourself Clive Of The Kremlin from Union HQ, then.

Well I'm also going to mention it. Your words yesterday were said without the slightest thought for a young footballer. Much like your Unions do when they threaten entire industries or Companies, by taking petty industrial action. Both forms of bullying, in my view.

    At least you are consistent.

And, I wouldn't worry about your 14 year old reading these posts affecting him too much, he'll probably have far too much to worry about at home with a bully of a dad. He'll certainly be of no doubt that, if he ever makes a nervous mistake in his young adult years, he'll be getting no sympathy from you.

Having watched the highlights on Sky this morning I'm now happy that Bonham wasn't at fault for the first goal. Ekstrand never once looked at his keeper and kept his eye on the ball the whole time. Just very unlucky his clearance not only hit Poleon but then fell kindly for him.

Yes, further to my earlier post, I didn't see Bonham at fault for the first goal. first Doyley allowed their guy sprint past him, and Ekstrand should have cleared. Yes, he was at fault at the 2nd, for not palming it firmly away. But their guy shot from 24 yds, and the fact that Bonham should have stopped it, shows that he had his positioning right.

Well it was the opening post which attracted the death wishes along with the majority of the obscenity. The later post you refer to simply explains why I thought he was at fault for both goals yesterday. Hardly vitriolic and several others expressed similar opinions.

As for the consequences of my actions, could you explain the sequence of events which would lead to a fan on an internet message board writing that a player looked out of his depth and that his individual errors cost us two goals, would subsequently lead to a "traumatic effect" on Bonham which would "affect his entire life"? Even if through some remarkable turn of events, Bonham were to spend a few hours trawling through the post-match threads on this board, I doubt very much if he would be surprised to find some posters who believed he was at fault for yesterday's goals.

And besides, the lad's 19 not 9. If he's going to be a top level professional footballer (and especially a goalkeeper) then he's going to have to learn to put up with a lot worse than attention being drawn to his errors on an internet message board. How's he going to get on with 50,000 opposition fans screaming "DODGY KEEPER" and much worse at him after he's let one trickle through his legs and not let it put him off?

I'll be frank, I don't think either you or any other of my death wishers and abusers really find what I posted "upsetting". Someone else posted on this very thread that Bonham was a "bottler" and should never pull on a Watford shirt again, but didn't attract even half the opprobrium my post did. This and the constant (and boring) droning on about unions and communists in a thread which should be purely about football, clearly shows there's another agenda. You know very well why my user name was changed - it was meant to be self-deprecating and humourous. Admin put in the "Union HQ" bit, also in the spirit of humour. However, the joke does seem to be a metaphorical "red rag" to quite a number of unpleasant, unsavoury and humourless extreme right-wingers, so I may have to ask the admin to change it back again.

Finally, I would certainly be concerned about my eldest reading some of the things that were posted. The sexual stuff more than anything. Very crude and completely over the top. The people who wrote and posted them should hang their heads - I know quite a few youngsters read this board, not just mine.
