Absolutely Gutted

He was absolutely out of his depth. In the same way that Gary Plumley was out of his depth when he suddenly found himself in goal for us in a vital match. Hence the drawing of comparisons between the two in the opening post.

With the second he could have stayed on his line and hoped the defender got back in time, or he could have come out all guns blazing and spread himself in front of the Leeds forward. What he shouldn't have done was ***** about in no man's land and invite the chip over his head. Even then the chip wasn't that great, but he still didn't have the strength in his hands to knock it out or over the bar.

There was nobody else to go in goal for us, that's true. But it was a Plumley-like performance today that cost us the game unfortunately.

Unfortunately all Watford's frailties were cruelly exposed today. Extremely unlucky that we had to play our third choice keeper. Bonham is one for the future, but he is not first team ready and he should never have been put in that position to play in such a massive game like that. I blame the club for not signing an experienced keeper that could step up. Football is predictably cruel and the gods conspired to kick us in the nuts.

Normal service was resumed though with no penalty given and conceding a 90th minute goal. A match at Watford wouldn't seem the same without that.

The team froze though and did not play as well as they can, and although Deeney has been a star this season he massively let the club down today with his antics.

Gutted especially as Hull did not win. I think Zola has really got his work cut out to lift the team now. Everyone is down and Leicester are really excited as they never expected to be there.

One final note is that I wish Jonathan Bond all the best in his recovery.

I f***ing hate football right now.

How on earth do you reason that I started it? Where is the swearing and personal abuse I've written?

I drew a comparison between Bonham and Plumley - both inexperienced, out of their depth and cost us in vital games.

I don't see who could possibly deny it.

If Almunia is out which by all accounts it's a hamstring we have no choice to play him,we have no one else.I also think the transfer embargo would also rule out an emergency keeper loan, but I am not 100% on that.

Bonham was unlucky that Ekstrands clearance bounced off the head of the leeds player. That was pure luck.

I would be more annoyed at DEENEY'S needless sending off and to be honest that has been coming since peterborough away.

Looked to me as though he was already thinking about what he was going to do once he caught the ball. Lack of experience shows. He took his eye off the ball and let himself get caught up in the frantic emotion of the game. It's a massive lesson for him about the concentration needed under pressure.

He made 2 awful mistakes, but anybody who criticizes a young lad who'll be absolutely broken right now is utter scum. It sickens me that any of our so-called fans would sink to that level.

This season was won and lost over 46 games, not today.

That is by far an away the most devastating 2 hours I have spent as a Watford fan.

In sport you should never throw in the towel and we did in the early part of the second half. Only when the players realised that there was a chance, did they push on again. As for Bonham, as heart broken as I am, I really feel for the boy. He will need a strong mentality to overcome this. He is one of us and must have something about him. Needs support at a time like this.

The only consolation I have is that I might get a trip over to see them in the play off final and the prospect of winning in Wembley, with my three boys by my side, would more than make up for the disappointment that I am currently suffering from. Have checked flight availability and prices already.

Are you still feckin breathing? Had forresterie scored from five feet at wolves wfc would be up useless canut should never have played for wfc again.

More to the point why bring plummeys name into the post, that's what I'm irate about. Feckin he'll that's years ago forgive and forget. I guess union people hold grudges all their lives the canutng scum canuts that unionists are. Maggie thatcher giodbless her soul.

I wouldn't even blame Bonham for the first goal, I have no idea what the f**k Doyley was doing and Ekstrand should have done better in my opinion.

  9. Bonham out of his depth. Not his fault. Should have bought in 3 players in Jan, gk, cb, dm. Wouldn't be in this position.

So you agree he's made two awful mistakes but are "sickened" by anyone who might criticise him?

Tell me, in your work, if one of the young inexperienced lads made two horrendous errors that potentially cost your company many millions of pounds, would you be similarly sickened by any criticism of him?

Bonham's a professional footballer who ought to have done better when called upon.

Bonham is just a kid. Made one or two mistakes which were very expensive, but that was his first ever senior game. I understand everyone's frustration, but blaming him (or the club for not signing another keeper) is harsh. Who could have foresen the circumstances today. We should be good enough to beat Leicester over two legs and then the final will be more of a lottery.

One thing is certain, it is never dull as a hornets fan.

I thought we were really flat once the 2nd half started..and ofcourse Bond's injury affected our guys plus Deeney was stupid.

2 goals were really poor to give away - all goalies will make one mistake though and we hardly looked like scoring anyway.

1st was bad play by 2 experienced defenders.

Oh well - roll on Leicester - didn't really want to play them compared to Palace/Bolton but there you go.

You are being very fair, but a more experienced keeper would have known that there was no need to come racing out and effectievely leave himself in no man's land (aside from crashing in to his defender). But he will learn the harsh lessons. It is just a shame that his first major lessons were in such an important game. I agree with you that our defending was poor for that goal.

    My thoughts:

    1. We would not have conceded either goal with Almunia or Bond between the sticks.
    2. I don't blame Bonham in the slightest, he's too young and too inexperienced for our first team.
    3. While Bonham being in goal was the cause of us conceding two goals, I don't believe for a second that what happened today is his fault. He's a youngster with no experience in a position that requires it. We can't expect him to perform in a game like that.

So the real question for me is: why didn't we get another keeper in to cover for the possibility of losing Bond and Almunia at the same time, ESPECIALLY once Almunia suffered that injury?

Bonham has the potential to be a good keeper in thefuture, but he isn't a recognised first team right now. All we've managed to do today is scupper our chances of winning a game and shatter a youngster's self belief in the process. No one would have predicted us losing two keepers in one game, but we easily have lost two over several, and Almunia's hamstring has been problematic all season.

Can't blame Bonham at all, you're a moron if you do. He would have been ****ting himself as it is, to make your debut in a game like that is madness. You don't have a go at the inexperienced, you teach and nurture, making mistakes is part of that. The same as someone in a workplace @Cliveofthe******s.

What's with all this blame culture. We can either blame the fans for being quiet, leeds for being dirty, god for not looking down on us, deeney, keepers, yeates, Zola or you can kick the cat and move on

He's a (well) paid professional footballer.

If he makes two dreadful mistakes then he deserves to be criticised. The same as any other professional who did the same.

But at least you try and make a point before sinking into the lame abuse Dev. That's a step up from the foul-mouthed death wishers and pathetic pinhead picture posters.

Change the bleeding record,1st game, thrown in at the deep end..Tony Coton's debut he conceded 5 and went on to become a great keeper..Look at offer facts..Deeney sent off,Hogg's challenge, penalty not given,The defence were no where when leeds broke for the 2nd goal..By the way we only scored 1 goal,we needed 2 and was caught napping at the back as we pushed forward.Hhow you can blame it all on 1 player when on the day we were just not good enough.

Because what good will it do? The kid will be more devastated than you, me, or anybody else. The moment he'd have dreamed about since he started playing football and he's made 2 of the most costly mistakes imaginable. There's a chance we'll have to play him on Thursday, the last thing we need is people on his back. He knows he screwed up. Now he needs support to get over it.

Don't care how frustrated you are, there's zero to be gained by getting on his back. The absolute cuunts giving him abuse on twitter etc are disgraceful. So yeah, it sickens me when people turn on one of our own, making his debut in bizarre circumstances and despite his best efforts, came up short.

You seem to be confusing criticism of Bonham with "blaming it all" on him or saying that he won't go on to be a good keeper.

It's not the same thing at all.

Had we signed an experienced keeper as a replacement and he got injured we would still have been in the position of having to bring on an inexperienced keeper but it would have been Bond instead of Bonham.
So unlucky to be in this position for a match of this importance. Can't remember it ever happening before.

I think the general consensus is that Bonham is not to blame, because of his inexperience, but there seems to be alot of criticism of the club for not having a more experienced reserve reserve keeper, in case the first two get injured. A couple of thoughts occur to me. Firstly, where do you stop? Last night we had two fit and healthy experienced keepers. It was simply horribly bad luck that we lost the first two. If Almunia had pulled the hamstring in the first few minutes of the game instead of the warm up we would be in a much worse place. Does anybody realistically think that we should have four keepers? Secondly, what standard of experienced goalkeeper do you think you are going to get as third choice?

We didn't win, simple as that, the sending off and the injury to both Bond and Almunia had a big effect on the game,we were poor upfront, and even poorer when Deeney was sent off.No one blames Deeney for kicking the ball away in the 1st half to get booked and put undue pressure on himself to behave when he is always chomping at the ref and team mates.I am not gonna criticize Bonham when other factors were their to see why we lost.

Sat in a bar at St Pancras - emotionally knackered knowing its all going to happen again on thur/Sunday...and I come on here and read people giving Bonham stick - what were you doing when you were 17/18? Thrown in goal on possible the pivotal game of the season, and possibly having to play against Leicester, have some sense of proportion.

had you not added Plumley into the opening post i would accept that above - but clearly that additive shows what a typical unionist you are in wanting to crush and break everything that doesn't work for the mineority.

Plumley was blamed, so you clearly are blaming JB. Shyte supporters like you desrve to be gutted and i hope wfc don't go up becuase you are one of a 90% ilk at wfc ( i want wfc to go up tho for the 10% bestest supporters in the land).

the same happened against Hull when the russo scum canuts ( must be unionists as well) started rallying agianst Aidy calling neck ache football and hoofball and destroying any lingering confidence when in third place.

I bet wolves fans would have loved to have a chance of a play off this season having come down from the premier like wfc that season -yet 90% of wfc fans don't even see it as a successful season on the pitch dumb nut scummers..
