I reckon he knows a lot more than he puts out. Having worked with sports PR people, I didn't quite realise how the industry works. A lot of time papers will go to the club saying we've got this story about X player, give us an exclusive or we'll publish the story. Likewise, if a paper/journo publishes information the club don't like... goodbye to your future information. Comms people will actively give stories to other journalists in this instance. I wonder if he's holding back information so as not to piss off the club and lose his only sources of information.

I like Geri, class player who always gave his all and turned up in big games. Probably the only player who I don't begrudge wanting to leave, has no business playing against Rotherham or Wycombe. Just hope he goes abroad and not somewhere like Palace or Leeds.

 

Adam Leventhal was quite circumspect in what he wrote about Giraldi's role so I would doubt that he has been ostracized by the club unless people there are paranoiac. Quique Sanchez Flores did mention (when Leventhal interviewed him after he had returned to Madrid) that his training sessions were being observed and notes were being made, but Leventhal was careful to never specifically mention Giraldi by name. I think that it is more probable that he has lost a contact at the club. Now most of his articles in the Athletic appear to be based on opinion and supposition rather than any inside information.

 

I’m not sure he has lost a contact. I think he likely has a couple of sources within the club, and some outside who give him looser bits of info.

That said, I don’t think any of his close contacts give him anything regarding recruitment of players. He’s also been pretty behind the curve in that sense, while he has genuinely broken other news about the club.

 

None of us can really be sure. The reason that I thought that Adam Leventhal may have lost a contact at the club is because he did seem to have some inside knowledge in the past and used to be first with many stories (such as the signing of Sarr). That no longer appears to be the case and any specific information often comes from his colleagues in the Athletic or snippets given out by the club. I wondered whether he may have had a contact who has now left Watford.

 

His contact was Mapps.

 

Wouldn't begrudge him a move to Leeds. I think they're building something there and think he'd fit right in.

 

With a name like Leventhal I would imagine he has been, but not quite sure what that has to do with it.

Or the clubs communication being as it is, they will wait for him to be ready to play before telling us he wants to leave...

 

Desperate plot by the club to persuade clubs he's fit so they can spend money on him I bet

 

Not sure if “close to returning to full training” two weeks before the window shuts is what I would say if I was trying to convince someone he’s fit.

Missed that. Thought he was in the final stages meaning he’ll be ready to play late October.

I’ve seen on IG he’s running on grass and kicking a ball so him being close to full training now is hardly what’s going to make a club suddenly want to buy him if they weren’t interested before that’s all I mean!

I was there although in my head i thought sam ellis scored a last minute pen to win it rather than Luther’s goal... probably pissed at the time, i was 14

 

All gone very quiet here....I really don’t see anyone putting up the cash for him with his injury. Will have to be a seasons loan and reassess next summer. How long left on his contract?

Not sure how this one will pan out, I’ve said before ironically he would be a text book pozzo signing at the moment. Class player with a big question mark. We’d be looking to pick him up for about £5m and a packet of hob-nobs, without even allowing for the Covid market.

 

My prediction is we’ll sell him in January after he has proven his fitness. Doubt anyone will touch him until then.

 

Smashed at 13-14 reminds me of going on the awayday special. Jesus those were the days.

 

We'll panic, other clubs will panic, and I think we'll see him go on some kind of loan deal, or a cut price permanent deal. If he stays, who knows what happens? He's already said he wants out, will Vlad even pick him? Will he get the chance to prove his fitness to potential suitors?

 

Has he? Surely that’s just a rumour to park with all the others for now?

 

I'm not saying he doesn't want out or that we wouldn't let him go. I just don't think anyone is going to take a risk on signing him in the middle of Covid. Most clubs just can't afford to waste money on a crock right now, I think they'll err on the side of caution.

He probably won't be able to even start playing competitive matches until November, so why bother? He won't be match fit until December at the earliest, probably later. Might as well wait until January and sign him then, see how well he's recovered.

 

Predicted exactly the same myself weeks ago.

I'm very used to that, so it's always nice when people fall into line with something I have said weeks or even months later, especially when they have been one of the critical ones when I initially said it.

 

I think he will go for loan where club pays wages and £20m perm if he plays 15 games next season.
