I’d rather they were just honest and admitted the had bankrupted us with their incompetence.

 

Obviously, as ever, desperately hoping that to be proven wrong, but finding it incredibly difficult to expect anything else given recent form and how this window has gone so far, which even now after all this is disappointing (it's my own fault for allowing the idea to be entertained at all).

At least the Pozzo learned all those lessons this summer, so one of the main complaints at the time, of a total lack of communication between club and fans, can't be aimed at them this time (And no, before some genius chimes in, I don't expect them to carry on a running commentary of every player they're interested in and how much they're prepared to bid via the official twitter feed. That being said, they might as well have been doing, and for all we know have - it would look very similar to what we currently believe we have experienced)

The only possible hail mary I can hold on to is remembering all the talk on here about Sarr 18 months ago, then it all going silent and everyone assuming it had failed entirely, before the genuinely surprising last minute announcement of his signing. It's so vain a hope as to make me embarrassed to even reference it, but at the same time it will make me look like a Cassandra-esque genius if some alternate dimension is placed over ours and a signing is made.

Jankewitz would be very good if we could get him. It seems surprising that Southampton would sell him as he seems a very good prospect and stylistically could be just what we need going forward.

Accepting a loss on Sarr wouldn't free up funds ! The £40/50m they have earmarked for Sarr will go to pay off a chunk of our debt. If they truly accept they will get less for Sarr, they will need to sell other players like Hughes to bridge the gap. There is no way selling Sarr this window would "free up funds" to buy anyone, unless we sold him for far more than our valuation.... which was never going to happen. This window was always going to be about FTs and cheap loans.

While that’s a sensible outlook, you’re saying it with absolute certainty. We don’t know the FULL extent of our liabilities or what potential funding options/discussions the club have for the next 18 months.

Oh course it would free up funds. If they sold for £30m it would be a liquidity boost and free up wages. I’m not talking about buying anyone. I’m talking about just having enough wiggle room to fund a loan or two.

Selling Sarr would "free up funds" that will be required to repay debts we already have and reduce a cost base that already currently exceeds future income. However I agree I'd have hoped to see a loan/FT or two come in whether we sold Sarr or not.

 

With Garner, Murray off the books and now a significant fee for Geri (I would think), surely that means we're bringing at least two players in?

We need a striker as we all know, but the midfield is extremely light of cover. We only have Chalobah, Cleverley and Hughes, who all are injury prone, to cover us for the last 20 matches!! Quina is returning, but is a number 10 and Dan Phillips, but he can only be considered emergency cover, not a viable option (a bit like the Parkes situation in goal).

If we manage to sign a striker on loan (Vydra) and then this Siliki midfielder, then I'd say that's a decent window for us. But doing nothing would not only kill off an automatic promotion chance, I think it would severely damage our hopes of a play off place, as a couple of injuries in midfield would leave us with nothing.

Even if you hypothetically use the entire fee to pay down debt, the removal of the wages provides some wiggle room in the current year budget to fund a loan. It’s possible we’re absolutely hamstrung at the moment financially by Gray/Deeney and Murray sitting around doing nothing which was the point I was making before you got excited.

Anyway as I said I’d rather keep Sarr for 6 more months and hope we squeak promotion, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they can’t bring anyone in even on loan. Maybe the Delefeou sale may help in that regard.

I would think that because Deeney & Gray are still here we would still be over budget for wages. Selling GD was a strange one esp timing wise. Maybe we sold him for £45m and we can now go on a spending spree ?

No idea why you're getting yourself in such a stew Jumbo ? I didn't suggest you'd said we'd go on a spending spree ? That was my suggestion if we'd quietly sold GD for an undisclosed but over-priced fee to free up funds to utilise....

Selling GD for hopefully a decent fee and off loading our two loan flops, means we are clearing the decks for a permanent signing and a couple of loans.

As long as one is a proven goal scorer I will be happy with that.

I doubt we’ll sign anybody. We’re financially scr5wed & the ‘lessons learned’ are mainly ‘don’t spend money you can no longer afford.’ Ergo, we will sign nobody who’s any good cos we can’t afford them.

I’m just as pissed off as anyone at the Pozzo’s atm - but there is no way we’re letting all these players leave and getting the Geri money early unless we plan to be getting numbers in. Also sure they wouldn’t have done it without being very confident a deal is close. If I’m wrong and no one comes in then it’s time for them to go.
