We have been relegated at the worse possible time, with incomes down due to Covid and fans unlikely to reappear until next season. Fortunately our owners didn’t overspend in the PL, but we still need to make some major financial adjustments. The success of the Pozzo’s, has bred too many entitled supporters, who think anything less than promotion is a failure. Let the owners do their thing, this year is likely to be tough, but I am sure they will get us back competing for a place in the PL, but probably not this season

I agree with the original post.

If we put out our strongest team, including a fit Sarr, and put in a good effort but still lose then that's one thing. But if we put out another team full of second string players, and play like we did last night, we will deserve to lose and the club hierarchy will be totally responsible for that.

Mmhmm, I'm certainly entitled because of all the trophies and European qualifications we've won over the last 8 years.

I would imagine the club will take the rational view and realise it’s a minority who are throwing their toys and most know an on the whole decent owner when they see one

Of course they will. The symbiosis between cuckold fans and our abusive owners is perfect.

I don't think expecting the team to turn up against our arch rivals, who we haven't played in over a decade is being entitled. That sounds like the bare minimum.

I just read this on Twitter. Quite an interesting viewpoint.

    https://twitter.com/Iveco76/status/1308527079974207495

Whilst I wouldn't be surprised if this is true, IF it's true or IF our finances aren't as bad as this tweet proposes but Gino has decided to sideline these players whilst he attempts to find a buyer, he must shoulder the blame.

I know I"m backtracking on my original viewpoint which was that I was happy for these mercenaries to be sidelined, to train alone and be sold. However, we are up **** creek at the moment and I don't think it's unreasonable that we ask even a percentage of said players to pull up their sleeves, bust their gut and do what they are paid to do whilst we wait for their buyer to make an acceptable offer. Thinking about the long term, perhaps we'll have to lower our asking prices for some of these players due to the fact that covid has royally ****ed the market up and we need these players off our wage bill, but I feel the board have to be more proactive than they currently are.

A couple of points before you bang on about entitlement:

    1) The person talking about promotion being the only goal this year is Duxbury. I fully expect us to be mid table given our financial woes. Which brings me onto second point:
    2) Why are you talking as if Pozzo was prudent in the Premier League. Have you seen the accounts? He has borrowed against playing assets, ground, future revenue and transfer fees owed to us. There is nothing left to borrow against.

I’d buy into a medium term rebuild, but unfortunately the owners you rate so much talk of promotion and give Ivic a one year contract.

You should get your facts right before you start digging out the fans.

If it's true, will he put his hand in his pocket for a one off to keep the fans happy v Luton? I probably know the answer, but I'm going to clutch those straws.

Not really , as this action will have zero positive impact on the club or any other supporters.

This has all been nothing more than a cunning ruse, to suddenly announce on Saturday morning a full strength squad including all the big names and stick one up the Luton!

Listen to the rest of the fans. They're already accepting defeat as a necessary part of Gino's master strategy.

I don't believe in all that. A good theory, but we've just sold £35m worth of talent. The odd appearance fee for Sarr is not going to derail us financially. It's just a scare story, when the truth is more likely the club don't want to risk injuring any player who may potentially be off.

If Ivic can somehow squeeze out a couple more good results before the window closes then the pressure will be off to play the missing few.

Once the window has closed on 16th October, we will know exactly what our position is and then we can use all those players at our disposal. It could be the case we still have Welbeck and Deeney, which clearly wasn't the plan. If that is the case, then what will they do with granddad Murray? We could still have Geri as maybe no one wants to take a gamble on him just yet. We could still have Sarr, as I think Watford know how valuable he actually is, but no one wants to gamble on him in this window.

My thinking has always been, we run this season as close to a Premier League club as possible, for one season only. We've already sold two key players, and I think we'll only need around £20m of trading to be in a place where we don't really need to sell anyone else. I'd pencil in Pereyra and Pussetto to return to Udinese for £20m if no one else is sold, just to balance the club's trading.

So, it could still end up good, but I am really concerned with how they've gone about things to date. I thought there would be a much bigger statement of intent than has been the case so far. They said they would do everything in their power to ensure Ivic has a squad capable of promotion. Ivic himself said the target was to win the league, so the expectation is rightly high. However, I've seen very little intent to back all this up.

I get what you're saying, but I don't really believe you'll do this. Watford is far too ingrained in you, as it is me, but I know how angry and let down by it all you're feeling.

You want to hurt the club, like they're hurting you. I get that, but for me, it's too early for these defiant statements. I will pass comment on a daily basis, but will reserve judgement on "taking action" as a fan in my own way, until after the deadline. If it's still like it is now, with us groping around with academy and reserve players, then yes, I'll be right in line behind you. But for now, I'm hoping things will get a lot better than they currently look like they will be.

They obviously must have a plan, which allows for additional quality to be added or retained. Right now, it's stripped back beyond the level of acceptance, but I expect (hope) there will be a process of clawing back the quality before the window closes.

You have more faith than me. In any case. Losing to Luton because of their failure to move more quickly would be unforgivable and exemplify the way that the management completely misunderstand the fans. IMHO.

That’s true if it’s a genuine cause. But the people who go to restaurants and get a perfectly decent meal , but then complain about something stupid to get some money off are not benefitting society , they are simply an embarassment

A genuine question for the Pozzo out crowd. What do you expect from supporting Watford? Is it to win things, play in the PL regularly?

In my view, it doesn't really matter what league we're in, I enjoy watching my local team with my family. I know we're never going to be a club like Everton who can spend millions. I accept that the championship is probably our level, and we'll have forays into the PL every now and then. Pre-Pozzo's I think we were only heading one way, and we'd probably be in a situation similar to Ipswich without them now. For that reason I will be grateful to them, they have definitely made mistakes, but the grass isn't always greener. Maybe it's because when I started watching Watford was under Rodgers and then the Malky/Dyche seasons where we struggled to stay up with academy players and loans.

I'd argue that last year was the first truly disappointing year in the whole of their ownership, which is pretty good going. Maybe you could add 13/14 into that too.

You're right - he didn't put a timescale on it. That said the point remains I think many fans are pretty subdued about our prospects this year so I'm not sure where the notion that our fans are entitled and expect to walk the league. At least it isn't evidenced in this forum anyway.

Not necessarily Premier League, but be well run financially. Have a few players who really identify with the club (harder these days). Give managers time to build teams with identities and not always thinking short term due to trigger happy owners. Develop a few youth players (harder again these days). Not have henchmen undermining manager authority. Play good football if possible. Focus on the team, rather than a pool of players half way round the world.

I struggle to identify with the club at the moment. I don't like the owners. I don't like half the squad. I'll still support the team on match day though, but just feel numb to it such a circus have we become. I felt proud of our (in hindsight) duff League 1 team under Jackett. I don't feel any pride in this mess.

Agreed; the hierarchy have NOT suggested "it has to be this year". Because they know they cannot really deliver on that.
