West Brom close to signing Sturridge...deal off?

Guardian now reporting that Sturridge is set to join WBA on loan for the rest of the season. Could indicate the deal for Deeney isn't going through. Might all be rubbish. Thought I'd add it to the mix anyway.

    EDIT: God damn.

    It's not going to happen.

Troy's a Watford player until the summer at least.

I wonder will this affect their pursuit of Deeney?

They already have Rondon, Rpdriguez and Robson-Kanu (although he got injured on Saturday but think it was just a muscle injury)

I don't know what everyone is smoking but it must be powerful stuff. Having just read the last couple of pages of comments, the reason for selling Deeney seem to be that he is disinterested, unfit and past his best. I am now thinking I must have imagined his second half performance against Southampton where I thought he almost single handedly got us back into a game where in the first half we didn't look like putting two passes together. He also put in similar performances against Swansea away and Arsenal. How many decent performances can anyone name from Okaka and Gray? I doubt they would up to three.

How did we do without Deeney at the weekend? I suppose to those who want sell him they think that we put in a terrific performance and all the Watford fans went home happy. The supposed replacement Okaka can barely run for five minutes without looking like he's about to have a heart attack.

Whatever you think about Deeney the one thing I would never level at him is that he is disinterested. I think he has shown time and again that he does want to play for the club and I certainly wouldn't be selling him now to a relegation rival.

How did we do when Deeney started against Stoke or Huddersfield? It was like we had 10 on the pitch against Stoke and pretty much the same against Huddersfield, except we did actually have ten after the skipper had a brain meltdown (again) and got himself sent off.

Was that because he was disinterested or was it because he was angry at what was happening around? I want someone with a bit of spirit in my side rather than a bunch of disinterested players that don't really care. It seems that you prefer more performances like the weekend with none of the 14 players having a clue about how to get the team and the fans going.

If we are in a relegation battle would you want Deeney or would you choose Gray and Okaka? I assume that we are not going to be buying three or four forwards in the next two days so I definitely want Deeney in my team and not playing for one of the relegation opponents.

Well with Sturridge's injury record he'd get one here and never be seen again!

I would guess the majority of sensible people would echo these sentiments. It's about weighing up risk vs reward (to state the obvious). So we either sell now and pocket between 14 and 16 million, or sell in the summer and lose between 4 and 6 million. Every league place is worth a couple of million regardless of whether the Pozzos consider him to be the difference between relegation or staying up. I struggle to see the sense in selling now. With only 14 games left (13 -Stoke) it's a big ask to expect any replacement to hit the ground running. This is before we consider who is available, match fit and willing to join for a reasonable price.

Simmos, Folkstone orn, how dare you come on this forum being positive about our captain, I mean it's not like he scored 20+ goals 3 seasons running or scored the most memorable Watford goal of recent times, or anything. according to those that believe that they know everything, all he's done is get fat and score a couple of penalties.

I have asked for anyone to name three games this season where Gray and Okaka have put in performances to turn things in a positive way for Watford. The only reply so far was to give two negative performances by Deeney. The silence is deafening.

Only problem is...that was in the Championship...if we go down, I've no doubt he'll be instrumental.

However, we want to stay in the Premier League and I think it's now a league to high for him.

He's got himself sent off twice this season...both avoidable, if it were any other player he'd be classed a liability (see Holebas).

Have you considered that the posters who don't feel Deeney isn't good enough also believe the other two aren't good enough?

All three strikers have been poor this season although Okaka has a bit of an excuse as he hasn't had as much game time.

We don't have a decent striker and aren't currently linked with any. They are expensive.

So why would you want to sell Deeney if the other strikers are no good? As I said before we are not going to buy 3 or 4 strikers in the next 48 hours. We need the best we can muster and selling Deeney to WBA doesn't make any sense unless you have a financial interest in the sale.

So you think if he leaves we will be okay for goals with Okaka, Gray and Sinclair? Okaka isn't 90 mins match fit...ever! Gray plays better with a strike partner and Sinclair isn't good enough.

Re the red cards, first time was stupid, second time should have only been a yellow, it was right in front of me so I know it wasn't that bad, also given what Kane and Alli got away with on the same day. And don't quote the FA turning down the appeal, they were never going to not back their inept ref.

An occasionally fit Remy or occasionally fit Sturridge are comfortably a class above an occasionally fit Deeney.

Okaka started our season off nicely vs Liverpool but, Simmos, I'm with you.

The best investment Gino can now make is to write off a few mill & keep Deeney until the summer.

Position it as his last harruh for the Horns, gold watch if we stay up, proper farewell to the fans & higher wages at his next club because of reduced transfer fee.

Do you think that Okaka and Gray would have done better than Deeney in those games he was sent off. All the evidence I have seen suggests not. I put forward the first half at home to Southampton and the performance at the weekend to show what it might be like without Deeney.

So what you're saying is ignore the stats and just go on an improvement...even though we still lost?

Let's put it this way, he has scored the same number of goals as:

    Capoue
    Okaka
    Perreyra
    Britos
    Cleverley
    Kabasele

Only Kabasele and Cleverley have featured more.

Janmaat and Hughes have more goals and have featured less.

So, sorry one goal from a penalty, 2 sendings off is not a great return for a striker. That's the issue and I personally don't think he's got it anymore, so let's cash in whilst we can.

We still lost, so your point is moot.

Remy has been in relegation battles before and never kept the team up. I don't think Sturridge has been in a relegation battle so it is a mighty leap putting your faith in a player who plays at best 5 games in a row.

Well Okaka ran Liverpool ragged and was then frozen out. He came on against Everton and was praised by Slither for changing the game...then frozen out.

Personally, 60 minutes of Okaka is more productive than 90 minutes of Deeney at the moment.

Unfortunately from the sounds of it West Brom have seen sense and we won't have anyone to "cash" Deeney in to.

Going on stats I don't think we lost to Swansea away, Arsenal or Southampton at home. Deeney offers something more than just goals. I assume that you enjoyed the first half against Southampton at home because statistically we were going to score with Cleverley, Janmaat, Okaka, Pererya and Kabasele on the pitch
