No wonder Pearce was such a inept manager. How can you not know the approximate budgets of teams in your own division?

The man's views are so uninformed they are close to valueless.

Well, that's precisely it. Both teams have done what they've been able to do to thrive. We've used close links with other teams, Bournemouth have been able to afford to lose huge amounts of money for a few seasons.

I don't care that Bournemouth have spent a lot of money, unless our team is made to see less worth of their achievement because we are perceived to have larger budgets.

Sorry, that is pretty cringe-worthy. Not against anyone connected with Bournemouth celebrating, not least their chairman who has played a part in making it happen, but he makes Graham Simpson's "dance" at Cardiff possibly chic by comparison.

That really should have remained in the private eye.

Lets do the job on Wednesday tomorrow and then remind Bournemouth that second only makes you the first loser.

Oh my god I have just seen more Bournemouth loving on the one show and I think I,m gonna be sick. Of all the cringe worthy nonsense I have seen lately about Bournemouth, that really has to be the most sickening of them all. Fair play to the fans and the club, but jesus will this ever stop! Ps I feel slightly sick from watching the one show as well!

Pisses me off how much more coverage Howe is getting just because he's English. Slav has been a manager (head coach) only a year longer than Howe yet could be about to win his 4th league title and 6th competition in total. That's a pretty decent record all in an 8 year period with a long gap between leaving Partizan and taking over at Muangthong. Doesn't matter what the standard of football is, you still have to go and beat whoever you're up against.

It would be quite amusing if airline style sick-bags were provided on the backs of the away end seats when we play B'Muff at the Vic next season. But only when we're Champions ...

TBF and I don't know why I didn't make this point on the other thread but I would say Howe does deserve manager of the decade (understanding this to be manager of the current decade, and not the last ten years). He has achieved three promotions in just five years, thus taking a club from near bottom of the entire Football League (albeit with a big points deduction) to promotion to the top flight - no other manager in this country has achieved that many in such a short space of time, let alone taken one club so far up the league. What other manager in English football deserves this accolade more, objectively speaking?

Don't think you will find many Burnley fans who agree with you, they were less than impressed with his tenure at their club.

It's the last 10 years. This year's ceremony was the 10th year of the awards, hence the "X of the decade" stuff.

There are many others you could consider. For a start, Pearson won two titles in the last 10 years, the Championship and League 1. That's far better than Howe's runners up awards for League 1 and League 2, which was all anyone had to go on at the time since the awards were voted for before anyone was promoted.

Pearson also won LMA Manager of the year in 13/14 and obtained 6 MOTM awards in the last decade, earned across multiple years. Howe has 2 MOTM awards (both from this year) and nothing else.

Nigel Adkins also has to be in with a shout for resurrecting Southampton in the wake of Redknapp's destruction.

    Lots of other examples really.

Unfortunately for SGT all of his fantastic work for both us, and Aston Villa was effectively stricken from record, and replaced by the do I not like that qoute. Whilst quite a large part of Eddie Howes managerial career has conveniently been forgotten as it does not fit in with the medias portrayal of him! Which really is unfair as both managers have effectively done the same job with their respective sides.

Oh thanks, I stand fully corrected.

In that case I agree then that there are certainly other managers that could contest that accolade like Pearson, Adkins, and others that already sprang to mind when I was wondering if it was manager of the last decade - Neil Warnock, Ian Holloway (despite his patchy record at other clubs), our own Kenny, Simon Grayson, Harry Redknapp (love or hate him), Sam Allardyce, Tony Pulis, Mark Hughes and no doubt others I've forgotten.

John Still deserves at least an honourable mention as well, despite being Scum manager, but I don't know if promotions below the Football League count.

Still, with Bournemouth looking almost certs for promotion at the time the awards were announced, and Howe's two promotions beforehand (runners-up or not), I don't think the award is the egregious error that some are making it out to be.

Not to mention that "turnip" quote - including by some Villa fans during his admittedly unsuccessful second spell who were too young/stupid/fickle to remember how good he was for them last time round. :dismay:

Ok fair enough. Its just i saw my posts highlighted again & wondered why as ive only said what plenty of others have.. and no i dont support cheating.

Talking of which.. and not wanting to put the cat in with the pigeons again ;) i recall reading an article many years back about the debate of why Man United got more than their fair share of penalties.
Some professor bloke studied their games and came to the conclusion that it was because they spent more time with the ball in the opposition penalty box. The law of averages meant they would be awarded more penalties than teams who didnt attack as much.

While i feel that conclusion is too simplistic.. it might be a factor in why Bournemouth have been awarded so many this season (and why Blackpool & Rotherham have been awarded the least)
The stats for this season dont entirely bear this theory out.. but it does appear that the sides in the upper half of the table have generally been awarded more penalties.. and vice versa.

The table doesn't lie...Congratulations to Bournemouth who deserve the title of 'champions'. I would have taken automatic promotion in a heartbeat last August so I'm still over the moon! I will look forward to playing against them again next season. COYH!!

I'm not overly downbeat after that result. Wednesday did to us what they did to Bournemouth. We were only top because of that so I guess it all works out in the end!

I'm gutted but I had a horrible gnawing feeling we would concede - SW did it to Bournemouth which put us in the driving seat in the first place.

Positions of promoted teams will be irrelevant come August.

And we have the Pozzos and will have a team for survival in the PL.

We'll see who's smiling come the end of NEXT season, and how long the Howe love in continues after August..

I'm not sure about that, do you think it's possible some players may be more attracted to a team finishing 1st than one finishing 2nd?

Not that I think Bournemouth will necessarily be a more attractive proposition than us, but all that media hype may blind them to thinking Bournemouth is THE club to be at, especially with the wages Muff are offering. And in fairness, Bournemouth is a more attractive place to most than Watford...

Well it was lying for the past two weeks until the 90th minute of today's game, by all accounts......and Derby fans will consider it a complete work of fiction.

We have to rely on using the Pozzos to convince players that we're the best club to join. If a player thinks he can be moved to either Udinese or Granada if it doesn't work out here, he may be more tempted. Same goes for wages - Udinese pay less than average because players trust them to be the best club for career development.

Wouldn't say Bournemouth is a more attractive option than Watford, either - even English people seem to think we're in London.

I disagree with this. All contractual numbers being equal, any player that thinks Bournemouth is a more attractive club to be at than Watford needs their head examined. We have almost double their stadium capacity, far better training facilities, a fraction of the debt and a massive global scouting network with two sister clubs (currently) in the top division of their respective countries. We're also widely perceived at being in London. While it's not factually accurate, it's pretty much true in reality and will only become more true when Vicarage Road opens up.

Obviously contractual terms or intended squad status will influence a player's decision, but to say Bournemouth are more attractive than us if you remove those factors from the equation is hard to understand.

Agreed, they were top of the table for over a hundred days, compared to our handful.....yesterday hurt badly but they have deserved it and we were only robbed by that cxxt of a referee

As I've said, losing Adlene was a significant loss and after 50 minutes, we were running on empty

Graham Taylor ? But he was vilified and deemed a merchant of the long ball. Sorry but a large part of the success of Bournemouth is down to their overall spend compared to their competitors in those divisions. Without Mr.Demin Howe was prepared to leave the club.

Bournemouth deserved to go up as Champions. Say what you like about their diving/gamesmanship, they have a talented manager, talented players and play some wonderful football. Their fans deserve it.

They've been marginally better than us this season, but the prize is the same. Premier League football for both of us next year, so I don't mind.

Especially since next year, we'll be better than them :D
