Why is it that Dier is 10th in that list and Auderweireld 7th who, when I last looked, are regulars for Spurs?
Deeney won more aerial challangs than anyone else last season. The only reason he's lost possession was Ighalo stopped picking up his knock dows and flick ons..
You see a fact which is indeed true and turn it into some baffling statement to make it a reaction. Let's compare Deeney to Kane for example: Kane pass success: 73.1% Kane key passes per game: 1.2 Kane average passes per game: 25.3 Kane assists: 1 Deeney pass success: 60.9% Deeney key passes per game: 1.5 Deeney average passes per game: 34 Deeney assists: 7 So Deeney attempted more passes per game hence his higher assist rate and key pass rate. When you try more passes it's only likely less will land. On top of that he got 7 assists compared to Kane's 1. Kane is obviously the better striker but because Deeney gave the ball away a fair bit in a LONG BALL team and in an unfamiliar position, Tottenham wouldn't want him? For the record Vardy had a 65% pass success rate, would Spurs say no to him?
Biggest difference with that comparison though is that Kane was the targetman for Spurs, whereas Deeney was more our link-up man with Ighalo the ultimate spearhead of our attack. I can't be bothered to check but probably someone like Eriksen was the player closest at Spurs to doing what Deeney was doing for us (joining the midfield to our main striker).
I'm fairly sure those stats include flick ons etc, in which case its stupid to use Deeney's pass rate against him.
I was quite astonished to see that stat TBH. I've always seen Deeney as one of the more reliable passers and retainers of the ball, when he isn't trying to score obviously.
Wouldn't be surprised if Deeney (and perhaps Iggy too) went this summer for the lure of the big bucks and European football. Happens all the time. TBH if I was him I would go. He's 28 I believe, when is he going to get a better opportunity? Grab it with both hands and give it a go. I'd be sorry to see him go but Watford FC life goes on.
I would be gutted to see Troy leave. He's more than just a player here. But if he did, I wouldn't begrudge him at all. He's done more than enough for this club.
Funny really, we are now one of the richest clubs on the planet and we still worry about losing our favourite players.............plus ca change
If Vardy leaves Leicester, well then I would not be surprised if Deeney is tempted to become their first choice centre forward
They'd have to change their whole system to have Deeney as their main striker - a lot of their game is based around Vardy's pace.
He wouldn't be first choice as Leicester would also sign a much better international striker to replace Vardy.
Absolute nonsense. The players that Leicester have been linked with so far are nowhere near as good as Deeney. Even Liverpool couldn't attract top players when they were in the Champions League last time.
Why would lesta want Deeney, he's not a fast counter attack striker and they are not a possession team - square peg round hole I'd say Iggy might suite them a little better
He'd be a huge upgrade on Okazaki and Ulloa. Look at some of the balls Deeney has played through for Ighalo this season and imagine Vardy (or a similar, pacey replacement) running onto them. Ighalo wouldn't fit Leicester's style of play at all.
Behave. Okazaki has 100 international caps and was perfect for Vardy last season and Ulloa was brilliant when he stepped in.
I imagine the fee we'd want for Deeney would be enough to put off Leicester - they have the lure of the Champions League so would be able to look further afield for someone as good as Deeney but at half the cost/future potential.
Why the hell do people always talk about 'international caps' like it's an accurate measuring stick? Deeney would have 100 international caps if he was from a tinpot footballing nation like Japan. Deeney outclassed Ulloa in the Championship. He is by almost every point of comparison a superior player, and has been for years. A comparison with Okazaki is harder, because they're completely different players, but I wouldn't say he's 'perfect for Vardy'. He's a decent player and has a very likeable style, but I'd be intrigued to know what exactly you think makes his relationship with Vardy so special?
Okazaki managed five goals for the league champions. He has great energy and works harder than any player I've seen for years, which makes him a very useful player, but technically he's awful - it was embarrassing watching him at times last season. Why do you think Leicester tried so hard to sign various new strikers in January? And if you think Ulloa was at any point brilliant for Leicester then you have extremely low standards. Lower than those of Leicester's fans anyway.
He's scored 49 goals in 101 appearances for the National team, regardless of who the opposition is it's quite the achievement for someone from a tinpot football nation like Japan.
Deeney isn't a shoe-in for Vardy, completely different player and Lesta would need to change the way they play
Agreed, it would be quite strange for Leicester to move away from a winning formation/strategy, surely they'd be more interested to find players that fit in with the current way they play rather than changing it completely.
Has anybody suggested that Deeney would be a like for like replacement for Vardy? They wouldn't have to change their formation or strategy. There's no reason why Deeney couldn't carry out the role that Ulloa does for them now, but be better at it, meaning they wouldn't have to start Okazaki over him.
Japan are actually a very good football team, well organised, technically proficient, i'd put them above Wales/Scotland/Most of the Eastern European countries (bar Poland)/Switzerland etc
https://twitter.com/Richwfc2/status/739405261203460097 A pretty reliable twitter account saying Leicester are in talks with us over Deeney.
Are you joking? Indykalia is notorious for being an awful source. I reckon they have a 5% strike rate when it comes to rumours. They are so bad its nearly a parody for rumours. https://indyliar.wordpress.com/ http://www.balls.ie/football/indykaila-investigate-twitters-famous-transfer-bull****ter/171689
