One of the things that boosts our chances of keeping TD is that in all likely-hood he quite likes being the big fish, all be it in our slightly smaller pond, so would he want to possibly sacrifice all that by transferring into a slightly bigger pond?

When else is a player like Troy Deeney going to get a chance to move to a Champion's League team without instantly becoming the worst player on the team and a bench dweller for a couple of years?

It's a ludicrously good, once in a career opportunity for him.

    I'd have him, for sure.

Seems like a nice bloke and he was good on MOTD recently. I love Leo Ulloa to bits, I really do but Deeney would probably be an upgrade.

Why should I back down from an opinion I believe in? Surely this place would become sanitised very quickly with just a majority view tolerated at all times.

I'm constantly being told I'm wrong, only for time to reveal that I was probably correct in the first place. Having a minority view doesn't mean you are wrong. It just means you see something before others.

People have different approaches. I never hound any poster nor do I start arguments or pick fights. I do stand up for what I believe is correct though, which seems to irritate many. Some will twist the truth, some will abuse, some will try and undermine you, but very few will come on and say "I see where you're coming from, but I don't agree and here's why........" That seems to be beyond the vocal members of this board.

If he was to be sold, I'd happily see Deeney go to Leicester rather than any of the other teams that have been sniffing around in the past.

I can't see why he'd leave Watford. He'd barely get a game at any top 5/6 club other than us and maybe West Ham but the fact that he's English bumps the price up considerably and it becomes a risk to sign him. He's in his prime age-wise now, 'bigger' clubs than Watford like Everton, Newcastle, Southampton etc are a sideways move given the TV money and potential for upset.

Stay put Troy, unless you fancy coming to us.

    You literally said

That isn't an opinion, you're stating an incorrect fact that you can't possibly know is true

If you said "in my opinion, many of those pretending to be happy are not being genuine" that would be a different story, but instead you decided to categorically proclaim to the world that no one is genuinely happy from them. It was a silly thing to say

i really didn't like Troy's recent comments. Apparently we can't learn anything from Leicester as we're a different team with a different identity and what we're doing at the moment works, so let's carry on the same way.

Well bollox to that. I've been to Leicester earlier on this season, and the atmosphere around the place was electric.

People were arriving at the ground anticipating 90+ mins exhilarating football, and knowing that they wouldn't be disappointed.

Contrast that with our fans arriving at the ground anticipating 90+ mins of negative, frustrating pig-headedness and knowing that they won't be pleasantly surprised - not even when we're mathematically safe.

If that's Troy's true opinion, he can leave with QSF for all I care.

I firmly believe that football is meant to be an entertainment, and I can't understand any fan that thinks differently. If you get your kicks purely from results going your team's way, why even bother watching the game? Why not sit at home and watch the results roll in?

Can't really see Troy Leaving, rumour has it Leicester are going to buy two South Korean strikers, Dilly Ding & Dilly Dong.

Surprised by these opinions. TD cares about Watford. He's the captain. What would you prefer? TD to come off the pitch smiling and all happy that in 2016 we've been pretty p*ss poor?

Good on Troy. He knows what we're capable off and he isn't happy with how we played. He's also right - We aren't Leicester. We haven't got the skillful winger in Mahrez, the pace of Vardy etc. That isn't our style. We were different to Leicester with how we got promoted to the Premier League, we were different with how we survived our first season.... Why would we attempt to copy Leicester to win the league? We wouldn't, it would be fake. You all have your own identities as people, teams also have their own identities. You have to use your strengths and that's what we need to do - not attempt to be something we're not.

So that's it then - we'll only ever have the personnel to dish up rank, negative football, so we shouldn't even think about changing? Well that's me done with WFC. Thank you and goodnight.

    Although luckily, that's utter nonsense.

As for those people who think that Deeney is irreplaceable - there are 16 other teams that will remain in the PL that don't have the irreplaceable Troy, not to mention all the European sides that could smash us quite easily.

If playing to our strengths means shutting up shop and waiting for Deeney to bully a mistake out of a defender, I'd quite happily see the back of him. What a horrible ploy.

Said that we shouldn't aim to copy other teams, create our own identity and play to our strengths.

This has led to someone basically saying that they want him to be sold.

Not sure what happened today, but QSF seemed to give him a very public pep talk at the end of today's match. I expect Troy was frustrated setting up Ighalo to meekly fail to score more than once this afternoon

Have you not read the speculation about Leicester coming in for him Cude? As that is what prompted my comment!

I know he is Watford through and through, and hopefully he will never want to leave us, but he seemed so fed up with it all today, that I was "tongue in cheek" speculating that he might have had enough and be willing to take Leicester up on their alleged interest in him.

Agreed, first season that Deeney leaving is a real possibility.

28 in June, that leaves him with about 3/4 seasons to achieve everything he wants to. He's done it all here except score 20 goals in the Premier League and win a cup.

Wouldn't begrudge him Champions League at all and to be honest that's the only thing worth leaving Watford for.. no point going to Swansea, Everton, Stoke, WBA or any of the mid table teams because we're all in the same boat.

I don't want him sold - we've already seen him flourish in a free flowing side and he could be part of one again.

What I want is to see Watford play some entertaining football, as this season (especially the latter part) has been nothing more than an endurance.

What a stupid thing for our captain to say - if we can't take a leaf out of other teams' books that have proved you can win the league or finish second by playing a brand of exciting, attacking football, it's time to give up.

How often has the league been won by a team playing our way? Surely there's a clue in there somewhere?

And no, I don't think that winning the league should even be on our radar, but it proves that this type of football works - and more than that, it's actually worth watching.

I'm sick of not wanting to watch my team.

Troy is a trusted spokesman for the club, with a reputation for telling it as it is. Which he does, to an extent. But he's also a loyal club man. Watch out for him saying that our next head coach is the best he's ever worked with.

(Unless of course Florrie stays and Troy leaves - I can't imagine we'll have both next season.)

"Good news is we have the best owners and best scouting team in football, bad news is we have obscene amounts of cash and there will be very few agents and clubs who when we come knocking do not try to increase the price and wage demands, after all these targets must be good if we are in for them and that will alert other clubs."

    What?

Name better owners/a better scouting network?

And please no-one say the Pozzos scouting network is better than Leicester's.

  30. NortholtHorn

Well they're putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. Having the best squad and having the best scouting network/owners are two different things. Correlation and causation are two very different things.

To compare either with anyone else is silly as well as the whole thing is a bit more dynamic than better or not better.

I'm still waiting for someone to name better owners.

They transformed the team from League 1 winners to Premier League winners, signing players like Mahrez, Fuchs, Kante, Vardy, Knockaert (in the championship) etc for relatively small amounts of money.

The only team in the Premier League that comes close to Leicester in terms of scouting ability is Southampton

He is worth more to us than any amount of money that Leicester will pay...however as someone said earlier could it be that maybe the Pozzo's will think he has a little to much clout? However we would be stupid to sell both Deeney and Iggy in the summer. We would need a striker to hit the ground running as well, so someone who has played in this league already. Those dont come cheap.

Shaktar just outbid other teams going for Brazilians.

Dortmund I agree with and I said Southmapton in my post after yours (didn't see yours while posting).

Ajax historically, yea. Recently not so much. Have finished 2nd to PSV the last two seasons.

Agreed and Pozzo's have to be up there but yeah Leicester's recruitment / scouting is clearly fantastic, Mahrez & Kante being two standout signings. They've also wasted a fair bit though, near £6 million on Inler, Kramaric last year for £7 million but other than that haven't had big money flops so fair play.

Will be interesting to see how they fare this summer with all that money. If they recruit well and keep hold of the core trio no reason why they can't be top 4 next year.
