£30 million is a huge amount of money, and it is irrelevant the payment schedule, that's just accountancy, and with the TV money an issue of managing cash flow. i suspect Leicester are determined, because (1) they have had a n interest in Deeney and believe he is their sort of player for many years now (2) They are aware that many of their forward players are on the move. For them next season is a chance to become a top six club for a generation, finishing in the top six is probably a bigger priority than doing well in Europe. If i was confident our scouting network could discover another Deeney or a Kante then i would snatch their hands off. And if we are going to be playing 5-3-2 next year perhaps Vydra will be revitalised alongside Iggy?
my guess is that discussions with home office over the Pernaranda work permit are progressing nicely, Success is a done deal and Berahino is buying a house on the Harebreaks.
Irrespective of the figure, unless Deeney wants to leave, I simply can't fathom why the Pozzo's would sell. I'm sure they got bid after bid for Di Natale over the years but didn't cave. He ended up arguably the biggest legend in the club's history. Deeney is worth more than money to the club. We are already one of the richest clubs in the world (apparently) so selling him when if he is happy to stay makes zero sense. The money mentioned is huge but is pretty much irrelevant with the Premier League money. If the Pozzo's want to move onwards and upwards in this league, selling the leader of the team and the biggest connection between the fans and the team as well as the complete inability to replace those two aspects will be a massive gamble which simply isn't worth it. However, if Deeney wants to leave to play Champions League football for a few games then he will leave with my blessing.
Obviously, I haven't read all (or any) of the thread, but has anyone pointed out that we've no reason to sell, unless Deeney decides he wants to leave, in which case we'll probably find a suitable alternative?
I would only accept the £30m bid IF Deeney specifically said that he wanted to go/talk to Leicester. We don't need the money and he is more valuable to us here.
It's possible I'm wrong, but isn't it the case that Di Natale never left, even though Juventus came in for him at one point, because he chose not to, partially because of his relationship with the club and the area, and partly because of the obligation he felt from the arrangement he had with his dead teammate's disabled sister, who he continued to look after?
They wouldn't come here and we won't replace his leadership. We've seen with Berahino and Pereyra and plenty last year, we can offer what we like but we won't be top of these guys wish lists. Cash in the bank won't keep us up.
£30 million seems a ridiculous amount for Deeney, and in all honesty would be good, no great, business. However, I just can't help feel a little deflated at the thought of him going and the fact our team will be much weaker without him in the side. I hope we don't look back on this seasons mid-table obscurity fondly this time next year...
Deeney has said he wants to talk to Leicester and i think the lure of champions league will be too much for him to turn down, pozzos have the money but cant force deeney to stay if he wants to go.Walsall will take to the sale of deeney nicely earning around 6 million if we sell for 30 million.
With that, frankly insane, £30m figure being thrown about does this mean that had Troy made into the England squad we could be looking at Bale type numbers? Also, does it suggest that people ITK believe that Troy's going to be capped?
If he decides to go, then good luck to him. It will be disappointing, but things move on. He will be a Watford legend, whether he stays or goes. On Troy's departure (whenever that may be), the Pozzos will do there utmost to protect their cash cow, which is participation in the premiership. Watford cannot afford to be too dependent on any one player and it is a long term project. A bad knee injury can rule out any player, so they need to plan for all eventualities. £30m for a player, who some felt should have his contract terminated following his conviction, is not a disaster for the club, merely a forced rethink with some cash to spend, by people who have a great track record with this type of scenario.
If he does go to Leicester we should try and get one of their players in the deal rather than just cash, so we don't lose as much to Walsall.
A great track record with replacing stars in southern Europe, but hit-and-miss over here. Players who could make as much of a difference to our team as Troy does won't want to come to little ole Watford. But at least this gives us something else to worry about to take our minds off the referendum.
Or a double raid where they pick up Deeney for £650k and Parades for £29.35m before selling the latter on.
A great record in finding cheap developing and selling on for a profit but not much of a record in buying established stars wanted by other clubs.
I am allowing myself to beleive that this is the focus of the meeting: Agenda item 1 - "we tell them to fark off, yes?!" Agenda item 2 - "how much of a rise do we give Troy?"
Not sure if this has been posted above, but re: the sell on clause, why don't we just sell him on a free to Udinese, then let them sell him on for the full fee?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...tml?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490 Deeney is not for sale.
Looking at the first pic, I'd never noticed that Troy only has one leg... I guess with two he'd have scored double the amount of goals!
A good plan if we can do that before the referendum. After that if the vote is out there would be huge import taxes to pay on shipping Italian goods back to Leicester, and of course all the money will be in a Udinese bank, and on what pretext would they transfer £30 million for?
