    Thanks for that.

So we'll be allowed 2 transfers of non work permit players this summer.

However, for us to even get 1 from next summer onwards, we'll need to have England Qualifying Players (EQPs) playing at least 20% of all our Championship minutes across the season - so out of 11 players, on average 2.2 would need to be EQP across our games. Early rounds of the FA Cup and League Cup aren't included in the calculations so clubs can't stuff the Cup teams full of EQP players to boost the average up.

We currently seem as if we'd miss out on that figure - we could have Andrews and Healey as regulars maybe, but we don't have a 3rd EQP who could play most games. It's strange that having players from the rest of the UK, such as Porteous, counts for zilch.

    -------

I thought the below part was a bit odd. It only refers to Premier League clubs loaning to the Championship or another major foreign league as being "Qualifying Loans", but it basically seems to mean that PL clubs could have their non work permit transfer quotas unwittingly decimated if they loaned out a bunch of young England Qualifying Players to the Championship, but those players didn't get many minutes. This could lead to some PL clubs being even more careful than usual with their loans, perhaps even increasingly putting in playing clauses with financial penalties in to the loan deals of English players; or them even avoiding the Champ altogether and sending more players on loan to League One.

As a caveat to this though, there probably aren't many non work permit qualifying players that the very top PL clubs will even care about getting a quota to sign anyway.

"7.7 Where the club has temporarily transferred an EQP on a Qualifying Loan during the EQP Reference Period, fifty percent of the Loan Player Minutes or, from the 2024/25 Season, fifty 2 The Football Association - Governing Body Endorsement Requirements for Men’s Players percent of the Pro-Rata EQP Minutes (as applicable) will be added to the parent club’s Cumulative EQP Minutes and Cumulative Total Minutes.

7.8. The Weighted EQP Minutes Percentage shall then be calculated as follows: (Cumulative EQP Minutes / Cumulative Total Minutes) x 100 = Weighted EQP Minutes Percentage"

    -------

Another thing which strikes me as bizarre is that all the English born players who eventually decide to play for someone like Jamaica, e.g. Andre Gray and Adrian Mariappa, or even Wales, lose their EQP status if after this decision they then transfer clubs - this could lead to clubs actively discouraging young lower league players from playing international football, as it could slightly reduce their sale value and potential playing time at their future clubs; even if that player will never ever have the chance of playing for England anyway because they're mostly floating around League One and the Championship.

@reids - didn't you post on here somewhere recently the stats for what percentage of our Champioship minutes this season were from English players?

Not all non-foreign players would be England Qualifying Players, but still - on that measure, if it were repeated for next season, we'd likely be the only club in the Champ who wouldn't obtain a single non work permit signing for the 24/25 season.

Will be interesting to see if the club really place much importance on that possibility and try to sign one or two more English potential first team players.

City apparently willing to let Cole Palmer out on loan. Imagine he'll likely go to one of the CFG teams, but he'd be great in the Championship, below are his PL stats this season, albeit in a small sample size (4.7 90s)

Would be amazing signing, I’d imagine 0.01% chance we get him

I'm never sure how much weight to give to stats like these, when they've been accrued playing for such a dominant team. Would Bayo not achieve similar stats (xg, shots, touches in box) with KDB laying it on a plate? And similar passing/pressing stats with more intelligent runners/pressing strategies? Or am I over simplifying it?

Some really interesting points there. The focus on being English-qualified is very new for the FA and suggests a shift in priorities toward hoarding talent for the national team (rather than bolstering academies).

Some other points I found interesting:
    1. I had imagined it would be exceptions per season. I.e each year a team has a certain number of times it can override the work permit rules. Instead it operates more like an overseas player in certain cricket leagues. A team gets a certain number of slots and can’t use them until a spot is free.
    2. However, the ESC players (ie the foreign wildcards) can become non-ESC players 12 months after arriving if they play a set number of mins (50% in the Championship, which is pretty doable).
    3. As has been discussed in the Championship you get up to 4 slots based on the number of minutes played by EQPs. 2 are guaranteed this season but not after this season. That said, clubs can also earn an extra slot (provided they have not hit the maximum 4 slots via EQP mins) if they have 3 players play at least 45 mins for England, England U20 or U21. I’d have to dig in further but that could perhaps include loanees which makes getting higher profile loanees even more attractive.
    4. Additionally, they generally retained the prior Work Permit/GBE points bands, but a player who has his senior debut can receive up to 6 points (15 required for a WP) which can make it easier to sign such player even if they have only played a small number of minutes. I thought that was a great addition.

Yeah there's definitely an element of that - just because someone's done well at one team, doesn't mean they're guaranteed to do it at another.

In Palmers case, he was prolific at youth level for City (21 goals in 26 games at u23 level and 28 goals in 38 games at u18 level), his teammates were likely a cut above the oppo there as well, but not to the level of the city first team.

Surely any mid-table PL team would want Palmer. Can see him going to Burnley.

It's worth remembering that Man City youngster Liam Delap was much sought after last season but he hardly impressed at Stoke and Preston.

City have been unimpressed by Palmer's lack of progress over the past year, and even the player himself has admitted he has underwhelmed. Something to prove, which you;d make him a useful asset to whoever gets him on loan.

Is his preferred position Attacking Midfield or Left Forward/Winger?

I'm not sure how much we'll need an AM depending on where we plan to use Louza and Asprilla if we keep them both.

We've also been linked with Casadei on loan before who might provide more goal threat from AM, though I'm not sure how likely that signing actually is either.

What with this and the George Bello link we seem to be in the market for a crap left-back, for whatever reason.

Was posted on their forum this morning (https://cambuuronline.nl/smf/index.php?topic=1786.465) and by the Dutch version of transfermarkt (https://twitter.com/TMinsideNL/status/1669291610868183040) although interestingly a Watford account first mentioned his name yesterday as a theoretical transfer (https://twitter.com/watfordfocus/status/1669049471819235328) so wonder if some accounts saw that and ran with it!

Yes I wondered the same although it does appear he’ll be on the move and there is interest in England.

Do you have any data on him?

Yes! I was thinking the same. Would love to see it happen. Could be a real smart pick-up potentially.

Also been interesting to see some of the names I've brought up previously have already joined other clubs. Paulo Vitor (one of the best keepers in Portugal this season) has gone to Saudi Arabia. Alexander Schlager who previously played for Ismael, has gone to RB Salzburg for free. Vitor Carvalho has joined SC Braga for £2.5m. Michel Adopo looks set to join Atalanta on a free. And Mikkel Kaufmann has been signed by Union Berlin for £2.7m.

Didn't have the greatest of seasons (Blue) as Cambuur were relegated. They finished mid-table last season though and he had a decent season last year (red)

Realistic options here would be, Baxter (GK) if Bachmann is sold. We were sniffing around Tuanzebe but he is likely to go elsewhere. Matt Longstaff? We Do need a midfielder or three.

Also, good news on Callum Styles. Good age and proven at this level with potential to improve.
