Interesting to see Burnley making moves and spending on homegrown talent to plug gaps in their squad, all whilst facing a ‘financial meltdown’ Wonder how the COGs are squaring that with our non existent squad building efforts
All of their completed or proposed homegrown signings are players which I've said I'm not hugely bothered or impressed by prior to them even being linked with Burnley. Twine is the only one who could have a sizeable upside but I've never been entirely convinced by him and there's no guarantee he'll be a big success there.
Yet to see the underlying article but we have apparently enquired about Chris Mepham on loan. https://twitter.com/walesagenda/status/1543873237095956482?s=21&t=VtRtkvjBV6ItRG2BHO7GMg I think there’s a player in there somewhere and reckon he’d excel as a RCB in a back three if given the chance. But I’d only go for it if we could insert a fairly inexpensive option in the deal. Only got a year left so maybe we could/should just try for a perm. Hasn’t really kicked on since joining Muff but he’s still 24 and looks good for Wales mostly.
When this came up, I searched Football Insider going back a day on both their twitter feed and their website's live transfer blog, and I couldn't actually see them make this link anywhere. Perhaps I've overlooked something.
I couldn’t find it either but looking through the account that shared it it looks like an account that just follows/aggregates on Welsh players. Doesn’t seem like a Daniel Moroney type. Perhaps a Football Insider journalist was on a podcast or something? Seems an odd thing to make up. A few weeks ago Mepham crossed my mind as a pretty plausible transfer (and one that I’d feel fairly meh about in truth, though he’s probably better than what we have). Edit: actually looking through it seems the account may post a lot of content designed to troll Cardiff fans and then mixes it with real info in order to sow confusion. So looks like this one is made up.
Would be fine on loan, but I'd be wary of a perm tbh - he's not good enough for the PL so would be a waste long-term if we got promoted.
You may well be right, but that logic applies to the vast majority of players/signings who will be promoted to the PL this season.
Now that man on internet armed with WyScout 28 day free trial has opined, I am now no longer worried that our rival is bolstering their squad with new players.
Fair play for not letting it impact your posting prowess - thought it was going to be like when they cut Samson's hair.
Must admit I'm a bit disappointed to not get to watch more clips of the mighty Rey Minaj to determine just how underwhelming he'd be.
The good news is that 99.9% of every link is literally just paper talk and we’re not interested in most of them. The problem we’re faced with right now is that we can’t sign anyone until we shift at least one of Dennis or Sarr. I wouldn’t be surprised based of Edwards comments, that deals are actually in place and ready to go. We just can’t do it because no-one has come in for our 2 star boys. I think Gino and Scott probably thought Dennis and Sarr would have been sold by now but they’re not, so that’s the hold up. We need to sell them this week hopefully. On a side note, I can 100% tell you that West Ham are very much interested in Dennis. He’s their third choice option.
Couldn't risk sending someone of the quality of Gosling out on loan. A vital member of the squad....ahem.
Dennis will surely get shifted soon, whether it be to Everton if the current rumours are true, maybe Villarreal as a Danjuma replacement, West Ham, or someone else. Sarr is the problem. Many of the clubs who might want Sarr will probably be first trying for Dennis instead. Nothing might happen with him until clubs start to get desperate a bit later on. I really do wonder if a backup plan of a 20mil deal to Udinese with a 1 year contract extension hasn't already been made just in case, because he'd be wasted if left here in Edwards' system.
But rotting for a year out of position in the Champ prob won't do him any favours. Maybe one year at Udinese in Serie A instead to boost his reputation (before then being sold) might be more attractive?
Seems a long shot. He can either play/sulk in championship, and then has the World Cup to impress. Even if he just has a complete off year surely someone will just pick him up for £8m-£10m next summer when we have no ability to ask for a significant fee. I would never sign a deal in his situation.
Could honestly see a comedic Sarr resolution based on that Q-style drop from a prior Leventhal article, where we try and get Sarr to sign something like a 6-month contract extension and then go for the 'hope his scintillating play at the World Cup attracts more and better suitors and flog him in January' Hail Mary.
