We've done some great business this window.

Fans (and the team) were crying out for younger players, HG, some 'English blood', people we had heard of with genuine ability / potential. The centre of midfield needed some better quality, we needed some pace going forward, plus we didn't want to break the bank and risk our financial future.

Done, done, done, done, done, done and done.

Watching Chalobah and Doucoure in the middle of our team is a joy to behold. Personally I'm still very happy with the Gray signing (around 180 minutes so far and already people are criticising him). If Richarlson plays all season like he has so far then, oh my, what a player we have there.

As for the back up LB and better CB and first choice GK, yes it may not be a 'perfect' window, but using our link to bring in suitable players is fine.

Great window, could be even better if 1 or 2 of those coming in end up being better than expected.

Hmmm. I’m not totally against it but I would just caution against us doing it for much longer. Yes, other clubs are spending a lot on average players but I’d still say a lot of those players are better than most that Udinese have these days. We have moved several steps ahead of Udinese in quality now. These players seemingly coming in may do a job in terms of numbers but I don’t think they would raise the ability or profile of the squad.

We've obviously had a list of players for various positions. People will now mock this and point to last minute buys from udinese for players who don't make their team and I get that.

But, we did do some very good early business and you'd have thought Chalobah, Hughes, Richalison, Gray are all from the A list that was put together. Good quality players that the manager is happy with, who suit his style and all for good money (looking at what's spent elsewhere).

We've tried to bring in Gibbs, and been linked with a few GKs and CBs, but not everything goes smoothly in a window, and that's the same for all sides.

If our transfers today are not inspiring at least they will probably be cheap and 2 of them well known to the Pozzos and their supporting team.

I agree you can’t get everything you want as fan in the transfer windows these days. BUT. It was obvious from last season and the previous 6 months of the season before that, that our defensive unit needs to be significantly upgraded. It’s all very well adding defenders just for numbers but it’s quality that we have needed and that looks to have been forgotten about.

(This statement in no way suggests that I don’t understand the owners have done brilliantly with the additions to our midfield/attack.)

He's been ok for a team like us but not fantastic. As a defender doing the basics like stopping crosses I'd rather have someone else, he is good at bombing forward but even then I don't remember him putting in too many telling crosses leading to goals/good chances.

Yeah I'm not completely disagreeing with this. Perhaps that the defensive side not the bigger of the priorities from the end of last season, maybe the biggest priority was the change of manager and tactics. 2 clean sheets from 3 league games is a promising start and it's been done without sacrificing some attacking intent and more pleasing on the eye football.

Many were saying they didn't want massive changes, but then on the flip side we needed a new GK, LB, RB, CB, DM, AM, LM, RM and at least 1 ST. We've actually done 6 of those already.

We do have 6 CB's as it stands. Prodl was one of our 3 best players last season and most people rate Cathcart quite highly.

Maybe if Silva does a good (or at least an ok) job this year we will see less wholesale changes as we will keep the same style of play and player and be able to focus on just improving the first team with 3 or 4 signings.

 

Transfer window is BS imo. It's just another invention of the ailing greeting cards industry. 'Happy transfer deadline day Moose'. **** off is it.

 

Interesting that Affleck has retweeted the story that we are interested in Gaitan and replied to someone asking if its true, saying the source was as reliable as it gets. Isn't Affleck employed by the club....
