Only the sun but still... Hearts are set to miss out on Charlton's Izale McLeod, who is poised to join Peterborough on loan, and Steven MacLean, with Watford joining Aberdeen in the hunt for the Plymouth striker. (The Sun)
http://www.watford.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=183822 Watford have reportedly joined a squabble of SPL clubs looking to snap up out of favour Plymouth striker Steve Maclean in the January sales - or so says the sports hacks at the Sun! The former Cardiff, Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday frontman appears not to be to the liking of new Pilgrims boss Paul Mariner and was expected to join Hearts after popping north of the border for a trial over the festive season. Now, apparently Maclean - who has been out of form and injury prone since a £500k move to Home Park 2 years ago - appears to be hot property with Aberdeen and another unnamed Scottish outfit keen on his signature. Quite where the dog eared journos at the Sun got the Watford rumour from we`re not quite sure but given that Braveheart boss Malky Mackay admitted the Hornets 'would be thin on the ground and desperate to bring in a striker when Helguson went back to QPR, it could just be a case of lazy reporting. For the record, Maclean showed plenty of promise when he netted 35 goals in 66 starts at Sheffield Wednesday but has since fallen off the radar after failing to rip up any trees at clubs since and hasn`t played for Plymouth since mid September.
My mate is a groundsman at Vicarage road and he tells me Scott Loach will sign for Man U this month while Ben Foster will come to Watford on loan for the rest of the season.
Real Rumours – Loach to United is a deal that the agent wants – Mackay less keen and wants Macheda on loan too – if it goes through and Foster is a loan part of the deal – Williamson on loan for 3 months and Helguson till May will happen.
As always, carp. BUT imagine that. Fossie and Macheda along with Wi££o and HH. Now that would make me feel confident.
Obviously our financial troubles are caused by having a staff of several hundred at the club,as everyone wishing to make stuff up claims to have a mate there.
Well by the looks of this, Ben Foster is for sale... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1241995/Ben-Foster-sale-Edwin-van-der-Sar-returns-Manchester-United.html?ITO=1490
Yeah, I am sure GT will just russtle up 4 million from the club's sizeable coffers. Then again, we could just do a Pompey and never pay the fee.
Im not trying to say we should sign him. Just saying there could be something in the rumours (even though there isn't) as by the looks of that fergie wants him out.
MASSIVE PLYMOUTH NEWS! I just recieved a phonecall from a well connected source that Derby have placed a bid of 750k cash for Mackie, plus Kris Commons. Argyle have made this clear to forest to see what their intentions are. Forest have placed 2 million aside for the deal, but would rather see a multiple player swap deal as Billy Davies has taken forest's finances down the lake without a paddel just like he did at Derby. The players mentioned are Nathen Tyson and Dexter Blackstock.... or one plus 1.25 million cash In other news. Maclean will be sold, for free to Watford
Spoke to a plymouth season ticket holder this evening, who tends to hear and know whats going on. He has said that we are waiting to move two players out before Maclean comes in. Have we players already lined up with moves elsewhere ?
One player we are probably looking to move out is Hoskins. I'm guessing the other one could be Travner going out on loan to FK Haugesund? Maybe Sadler could be off too if anyone wants him.
He was released by Sunderland today. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/sunderland/8459571.stm Wouldn't suprise me if we are taking a look at him seen as he is a defender (a position we need to strengthen) and is now a free agent. He could be off to Hibs though as it says he was in talks with them before his exit from the Stadium of Light.
Bamba again - I'd like to see him sign, he was great in the Boreham Wood game when he was on trial here a few seasons ago.
St Mirren news.. Dorman to follow McGinn to Watford. It seems like he will be be signing a pre contract very soon. It also sounds like Russ Anderson see's his future down South and has been invited down to Watford for a few days training and will be a guest for the match Doncaster Rovers. & Watford look set too loose out on Steven MacLean. The Hornets boss wants him to fight for a contract with an offer of a loan until the end of the season. MacLean is looking for the comfort of a contract. Lastly... Steven Pienaar to Liverpool? More likely Steven Hawkins mate! As for some real rumours Big 'Eck or Guus Hiddink to take over from Rafa. David James isn't going to Stoke. Chris Martin is attracting the interest of several Championship sides notably Bristol City and Watford. I'm guessing Chris Martin is the Norwich City striker.
Today's a good'un. We'll swap Taverne for Maclean (suppose they mean Travner) and also there is this: Now that is funny as fook.
The announcement that Pompey have asked permission to sell some players is just one approach. A number of possible deals have emerged with a few senior players off to Championship clubs as loans or disnpensation signings. Here are a few players and discussions taking place.. Hermann Hreiðarsson & Michael Brown (Forest) Antti Niemi (Newcastle & Swansea) Nwankwo Kanu (Swansea & Cardiff) Richard Hughes & Aaron Mokoena (West Brom) Tommy Smith (Watford – PFC still owe most of his fee) If I hear more, I'll let you know Sid Six Another person has posted on there saying the same that Smith is coming back on a 3 year deal because Pompey still owe most of his fee. I'd love him to come back but his wages would be too much surely? I could see him probably joining someone like Forest of Sheffield United if he does leave Portsmouth.
He won't be able to play for anyone else this season (unless he appeals for mitigating circumstances of course)
He was reluctent to move north last time. He asked for silly wages at Sheff Utd to compensate for moving so far away from home, something they obviously weren't prepared to pay him. As you say I doubt we could afford anything close to what he would demand.
I would imagine that if Pompy actually go out of business and the players don't have a team to play for, that they would be considered a special case and be allowed to play for a 3rd team if necessary.
If they're wound up then the results are expunged aren't they? In effect that removes the history of the matches so it could easily be argued that they wouldn't have played for Pompey
If they go out of business, all the points that have been won/drawn/lost against them are basically taken off the table.
Can anyone clarify this: - If a player is out of contract and a free agent, can he sign for a club outside of the transfer windows? I only ask because if that is the case, all the Pompy players will be out of contract and free agents, should they go bust, so I might have answered my own earlier question.
Going purely by football manager, there is a free transfer window which lasts for much of the season, so as long as you are inside the window you can sign any out of contract players you want.
Different. A player has to be released from his contract during a transfer window to then be eligible to sign for another club for free outside of the normal window. Sol Campbell is a prime example. He left Notts County in late September and as a result was unable to sign for another club offically until January 1st.
