Not to derail the thread, but Nike has had a ridiculous amount of power and influence over US soccer. It is rumored that they have say in who gets selected for tournament teams as a consequence of their financial backing of US soccer over the years. This was rumored to be a sticking point on why German great Juergen Klinsmann turned the US coaching job down twice, refusing to give up any control over player selection for any reason. I don't know anyore details beyond what I have written and is really just a rumor.

The deal is almost certainly done in the sense that a price has been agreed with 'Boro and the player has a contract in front of him. I doubt he made his mind up on a Friday night before a league match the following day which he's due to start in. However the tell-tale would be his lack of involvement today if true.

You think after the 2nd Bundesliga team he was/is trialing with, signed Buddle and not him ( no disrespect to Buddle), would give him a reality check.

Andrew Taylor set to leave his decision to join Watford to the last day of the transfer window. Watford are also expected to be taken over within the next 3 weeks.

If true this would be bad news as it would leave us hardly any time to get another LB in. I dread to think where we will finish with Lloyd at LB for the rest of the season:dismay:

If we don't get Taylor then I reckon we'll bring in another loan.

Watford FC will take Tyrone Barnett on loan with a view to perm. transfer when the Loan window re-opens. The young striker was linked to Watford in early January but the Hornets weren't able to afford the striker.

I say give him a chance, he could be the next Troy Deeney!

What, a striker who continually gets played out of position during the short time he spends on the pitch?

My point exactly. He looks a decent enough player whenever I've seen him. However with Sordell/Graham in such good goalscoring form it's hard for him to get a look in. I would've liked to see him start instead of Wiemann though on Tuesday.

Watford are hoping to tie up loan deals to bring jordon mutch back from Birmingham and also Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea

This would be brilliant if true, Mutch maybe true. I'm thinking highly unlikely for Bertrand considering Forest tried to get him for the season and they have just loaned out van aanholt to leicester ?

We might end up with the biggest squad in the league at this rate

A little concerned about our identity

    Bertrand
    Mutch
    Towensend
    Drinkwater
    Andreas Weimann

How many can you have in your squad ?

We're now out of the time zone for "long term" loans (Mutch and Taylor) and can now only take "short term" loans - see below for the full FA explanation.

Basically we can take 8 short term loans over the season, but no more than 4 at any one time. If we still had any long term loans we would be allowed to name 5 loan players in the match day 16. As we have no long term loans we can play only 4 short term loan players.

So, if we keep Townsend, Drinkwater and Wiemann then we could take only one of Mutch or Taylor (or anyone else) if they came back on loan.

The emergency loan of goalies is subject to separate provisions.

47.3 There shall be two categories of temporary loan transfers allowed - Short Term Loans and Long Term Loans. The following restrictions shall apply to both types of loan:
47.3.1 A maximum of 5 loan Players (either Short Term or Long Term) can be named in the sixteen Players listed on a team sheet for any individual Match. This figure shall include any additional loan of a goalkeeper approved by the Executive under the provisions of Regulation 49.
47.3.2 No more than 4 loan Players (either Short Term or Long Term) may join one Club from another Club in any Season.

48.1 Short Term Loans. Subject to the provisions of Regulation 47.3, Short Term Loan transfers shall only be approved in accordance with following provisions:
48.1.1 A Club can have up to 8 Players on Short Term Loan during any Season, but no more than 4 at any one time.
48.1.2 Short Term Loan transfers shall be for a period of not less than 28 days or for more than 93 days in any one Season. The loan period is inclusive of the start date and finishing date.
48.1.3 The Short term loan of a goalkeeper may be subject to a recall clause (including within the original 28 days) but this may only be implemented in exceptional circumstances with the consent of the Executive.
48.1.4 The Executive shall not permit a Short term loan transfer for a period in excess of 93 days in any one Season save in extenuating circumstances, at the discretion of the Executive.
48.1.5 Short term loans which subsequently become permanent transfers, or
simultaneously upon termination become Long Term Loans, shall not count against a Club’s quota of Short Term Loans for that season.

48.2 Long Term Loans. Subject to the provisions of Regulation 47.3, Long Term Loan transfers shall only be approved in accordance with the following provisions:
48.2.1 A Player can only be transferred on a Long Term Loan if he was under the age of 23 on the 30th June prior to the Season in which the Long Term Loan transfer is intended to take place.
48.2.2 A Club can have up to 4 Players on Long Term Loan at any one time during any Season.
48.2.3 The registration of a Long Term Loan will only be permitted during the period 1st July to 31st December in any Season.
48.2.4 The period of a Long Term Loan shall expire no earlier than the end of the Season in which the Long Term Loan takes place and a Player signed on such a transfer must complete the loan period and may not be recalled by his original Club at any time during that loan period save:
a when the Player is recalled and transferred permanently to another Club; and
b in the case of a goalkeeper whose agreement may contain a recall clause which may only be implemented in exceptional circumstances with the consent of the Executive.
48.2.5 Long term loan transfers which subsequently become permanent transfers before 31st December in the same season shall not count against a Club’s quota of such Long Term Loans for that season.
