All credit to Ash Barty in her decision to retire at the top. Clearly a well balanced individual and it suits her to look for different things in her life while she is still young. I remember Bjorn Borg doing the same years ago and Marion Bartoli more recently after winning Wimbledon.

I guess she might be back but yes probably has other plans in mind which fulfil her more .

Think Barty played cricket before becoming a tennis player so might try another sport ?

    She will be missed.
A wonderful player and excellent person.
She went off to play T20 or some derivative of the game a few years ago when she was fed up with tennis.
Due to Covid she and her team were on the road for about eight months and I think it's taken its toll.
    Good luck to her.

Yes - she would often comment on how tough it was and didn't play that often at times.

Another early exist for Emma after leading whereas Heather Watson picks up a good win v Elina Svitolina.

I like Siniakova, despite or perhaps because of her pig's ear of a serve!

She played well and ER made a shocking choice at 5-4 30 all when she tried to be too cute with a forehand cross court instead of going up the line into space.

Credit to Watson who keeps going but you'd have to have a heart of stone not to feel for Mrs Monfils. She's won one match since the war began and no wonder.

Should we be worried now about Emma R being a flash in the pan due to her poor results over the past few months? And what do you put that poor form down to - illness/injury, distraction, over-confidence, or something else?

Probably isn’t as good as people think and has had a few struggles fitness wise .

Rublev lost 6,3 6-0 to Kyrgios- must have been an injury involved

Seeds seem to be falling all over the place.

Point one: she had an extraordinary tournament at Flushing. If you wrote it as as story it would be fiction/fairy tale.

Two: That was only her second or third tournament, she needs to learn about the tour.

Three: she's a target now, everyone will be after her and will know her game, second season in the PL if you like or second LP.

Four: even if she never won another match, she won the US Open! She'll always have that.

She's good and will improve as she's a good athlete and is bright and willing to learn. How good, who knows but what a great relief to know that you've chalked off a major goal at almost the first opportunity.

Norrie beats Draper in two tight and Kyrgios, ridiculous talent, bamboozles Ruble who leaves having won three games and with an enormous question mark above his head!

I managed the 'Kukushkin' whilst practicing at Hazelwood yesterday but not the JJ Wolf ( right handed player) left handed on the end of range forehand pass!

Great resilience from Sinner to beat Pablo CB.
Norrie defeats the entertaining Hugo Gaston and Fruhvirtova wins when Azarenka walks off court at a set and 3-0 down. Probably wanted to watch the Ipcress File!

Sinner marches on against an imploding Kyrgios, who was fortunate not to be disqualified.

Alcaraz beats Tsitsi, Kecmanovic beats Baby Fritz. Norrie loses to Ruud.

Badosa looking strong in the ladies.

A shame for both of them and the fans at the stadium that they had to pull out of their matches when 4-1 down in the first set.

Alcaraz marches on and Fergus Murphy as ever does his best to make it all about him.

Swiatek v Osaka tonight. Osaka looking impressive but so is Iga.

    Swiatek dismantles Osaka 4&0.
Humbert Humbert and Isner beat Skupski and Koolhoff,Isner the best player.
Hubie, very Ian Lavender in his Private Pike years, looked small compared to Isner.
    HH is 6'5"!

Alcaraz continues his winning ways, albeit not at his best.
However to be able to win, when not playing your best in a Masters 1000 final is impressive at any age,let alone 18.

Many similarities between him,Rafa and Boris Becker in the way they are able /were able to be so strong physically and mentally.

I don't think Vera Zvonereva missed more than two ground shots in the ladies doubles final. She and Lara Siegemund drove Mertens and Kudermentova to distraction and won 6&5.

ND absolutely knackered in the third set, understandably given his lack of match play.

ADF is very likeable, runs a pet charity, you see it on his sleeve 'Adoptas'. Very strong and fast and really should have won in straight sets but for a Becker esque dive and then injury timeout because of it.

Fognini and Tsitsi not getting on too well. Apostolos being loud and Fabio undergruntled.

Evans wins to play Goffin, with or without Carole King!

All four quarters go to three sets.
Dimitrov, Davidovich Fokina, Zverev and Diego, nearly as I type, into semis.
Utter capitulation from Tsitsipas from a set and 5-2 up.
Lost his nerve, lost his game and really should dump his dad as coach.
Never seen someone choke so badly since Coria blew the RG final against Gaudio.
Broke his heart and his mind and he retired a year later.
