Apart from a GK we shouldn't be looking at anyone over the age of 30.

Danny ings is a good suggestion.

Maybe elneny from Arsenal? Barely played all season

Would second the Trippier suggestion made above by someone - would add real quality to our team.

If United are getting another striker in I would say to go for Rashford on loan too.

There's nothing wrong with having a look at the decent players in the squads of relegated sides. There's always the chance of getting a bargain as the sides going down are often keen to get shot to save wages. Redmond, Wijnaldum, Janmaat, Sissoko & Townsend all got relegated last summer.

Which of those was a bargain?

In regards to wanting Pickford to come here. IF De Gea decides to leave Man U for Madrid, Schmeichel is favourite to replace him, Leicester have already earmarked Pickford as his replacement. Apparently.

So does that mean we can't try and sign him, I don't think so!

I have been advocating this for ages and if Swansea go down, or even if they stay up, we should really try and sign Sigurdson, he is a class act IMO.

  9. reids

Agreed, however he's proven time and time again he's class - imagine we'll either be priced out or he'll move to someone bigger.

You are possibly right, but we really should not be afraid of going in for players like him, after all he is not in the out and out superstar class, therefore he should be on our radar, and if we are going to build up our PL status he is the sort of player we should be going for.

Quite frankly we should be able to compete financially for players like him as we are a reasonably established PL club and now have the financial clout that goes with that!

  11. reids

    reids First Team

Whilst we are 100% aware of him, it's still probably beyond us financially at the moment. Whilst the PL does bring in plenty of money, it doesn't mean we can willingly throw money left right and centre - Sigurðsson cost Swansea in the region of £12-£15m when they bought him from Spurs and is probably in the the top earners at Swansea, so it wouldn't be a cheap transfer - even if Swansea go down.

Everton were heavily linked over the summer in a move that was rumoured to cost them £25m, he instead signed a new 4 year deal. Even if Swansea go down it'd cost us £20m or so for a player who'd be competing with our previous most expensive purchase (Pererya) for game-time. So whilst he's a fantastic player, it doesn't make any financial sense for us to go in for him.

That list was just to demonstrate that, just because a side's gone down, it doesn't necessarily mean they don't have a few decent players. Redmond was definitely a bargain as it turns out, although I must admit I was skeptical when Saints bought him. Janmaat would be, or will be, if he can stay fit for a prolonged period.

We will have to agree to differ, as I think he could be worth that sort of cash, and do not think it would be beyond us for the reasons I have already stated in my earlier post.

Think we've missed our window of opportunity to sign this formerly unknown player.

It's because we're stealing Cech from them. It was a big money bid and they were powerless to resist. We're a Premier League club these days don't you know?

We ve got enough squad players so just 2 or 3 top quality first team players of the calibre of Pereyra or better . Hopefully a strong finish will be enough to persuade them.

Playmaking CDM - To replace Behrami who is well past sell by date and limited as a player .
    Possibly Allan from Napoli.
Sell Capoue now Doucoure looks the business.

Ball playing CB with experience and leadership skills - we have a number of decent but not great CBs . One or two need to be moved on if we stay with 4 at the back . Likely source would be an older , experienced ex international playing in Serie A or La Liga , someone like Albiol. Ex Real title winner , currently at Napoli.

RB - if we stick with 4 at the back as Jan Maat is a liability defensively but great as WB . I actually think Holebas is having a great season and could last another year. Trippier would be a great signing . He's not going to get regular football at Spurs unless Walker gets injured , so there maybe a carrot to dangle .

On reflection Cech probably is a bit mad, but what about Ospina as a first choice? Settled in London, wants first team football. Downside is that Gomes may want to leave rather than be a second choice keeper, but if he was interested in management i would encourage him to start his coaching career with us and that may make the understudy role more interesting - i think he is a very important personality for the squad and club in general. If however Gomes is considered good enough as the number one for next season, then of course you are looking for an understudy to replace Pantilimon and Arlauskis - unlikely to be British, as good British keepers are unlikely to want to play second fiddle.

Sturridge and Antonio maybe beyond our budget for purchasing, and we may be a bit beneath their footballing aspirations, but we maybe in the hunt for on season long loans. Of course the latter would only be an option if west ham did get relegated, and he was after a sabbatical away to retain playing in the premier league, on the assumption West ham get promoted after a year (all superstition) . Sturridge at 27 really needs to get regular football. He is clearly going to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, and it may be in their interest to loan him out to prove he is worth a big fee. Where else is going to go, and who would pay more than £10 million for him after missing most of this season?
Ashley Young (i think) only has a year left of his contract. Yes he is over 30, but is a versatile player, and if we are going for more British players and more under 21 overseas players, the senior players in the team might as well be British.

The club say they are looking for 2 or 3 players who can join the first 11 immediately. Looking at players like Success and Doucare, they were not able to do that at the start of the season. Niang might be one of those, so that leaves two spots, on the presumption that of the outfield players in the named squad probably Behrami and Zuniga are going, Pereya needs one of those spots, so a couple of British players looks likely to me.

Plenty of people would. Villa paid £12m-15m for Scott Hogan who's only 3 years younger and has never played outside of the championship....So for an England international playing in the Premier League who should be approaching the peak years in his career, you do the math.

Sorry but all this realism is getting depressing ;). I think you need to let the dreamers dream, and then be demoralised in the summer when we sign a bunch of unknown foreigners, and then be pleasantly re-assured when it turns out that some are actually pretty good.

Gk - preferably British who has developed rather than an up and coming youngster (not sure who fits this category)

CB - preferably British - a leader, around 26 - 28 years old. Commanding and vocal. Again, not sure who this could be? Someone from the championship?

LB - What about Friend at Boro if they go down?

RB - Trippier would be a great shout

DCM - someone with Prem experience ideally.

ST - Someone quick, clever movement and at least a fairly decent scoring record in the Prem, or very good in the champ or one of the top foreign leagues.

Also I'd love to see all the current loans signed up, Berghuis back in da house and (I don't think this one can happen) would love to see Penaranda at the ciub and seeing glimpses of what he can do.

Oh Defoe would be great as well.

About GK, do not forget that at Udine we have now some incredible abundance.
    - Karnezis (31YO): not much hype about him but he is VERY good. Yet he's also somewhat "blocking the way" to the 3 young ones from Friuli. He'd like to stay at Udine but is likely to go, as our next GK will be either Meret or Scuffet.
    - Scuffet (20YO): had a sort of "career-stop" after refusing transfer to Atletico Madrid and remaining as #2 behind Karnezis. But he's in starting 11 in latest matches (due to Karnezis's injury) and showing he's too still very good.
    - Meret (20YO): is on loan to Spal in 2nd tier and doing such wonders he's been already called as 3rd GK for Italy as full international. He's the one with the signs of the real prodigy and the possible future Italy's GK. Rumoured to be already in keen interest by Juventus as heir to Buffon.
    - Perisan (19 YO) is already deemed good enough to be #2 next year.

Three #1 is too much. Next Summer, choices will be done and one between Scuffet or Meret will stay as #1, while the other two will either be sold or go on loan (if offers are not satisfying).
And Watford could use a good #1 GK next season...

i think its obvious that we are going to have to fulfil the Home Grown slots this season.

I think Success moves from an U21 to a squad player taking one of the 17 overseas places.

Success should be able to be registered as U21 for one more season.

    The PL rule says
He was born on 7 January 1996.

Fine then - I take your point.

How about Belotti, Donnarumma and Rashford.

That Mbappe looks good too, but might be on high wages?

We'd probably still keep Gomes, so I'd imagine we'd want one of the U21s due to player registration rules.

Well it makes no sense to have Pantillimon and Arlauskis registered taking up two foreign slots when neither of them will play much? Our #2 should be HG so we can free a overseas spot for someone valuable.

I agree, however I don't think the club planned to have Arlauskis still around unfortunately it seems no one else wanted him!
