    I never received my £5 ?

  2. Because the bet was for charity with me. And my nominated charity got the £25 (he offered 5 to 1) - so a man of honour, even if the bet was a bit daft given our(GT's) reluctance to sack managers.

Not surprised he's been successful the two people i know who have played under him loved him. Even despite being bitter towards Watford for not getting a schloarship they both only say good things about Dychey and how good a manager he is.

You can't have your game plan fully developed in one pre-season. Not to mention players coming in late & the ones already here mostly Malky's. All managers talk about bringing their own players in, Sean's only been able to do this sparingly. He's done fantasticly.

You use the word hindsight, but that shouldn't come in to it as they were all pretty experienced players with a track record. They are either good signings or bad. Make up your mind.

As for who appointed the Board and the Manager, you have taken the typical view of a Bassini hater. Blame him when something goes wrong, but assume he has nothing to do with it when something goes right. You seem to have amazing powers of hearing when you are so certain that Bassini had nothing to do with the appointment of Dyche. Or were you in the room when GT and LB were discussing the matter? How do you know that GT didn't want someone more experienced that would cost more?

Personally, so far I think that SD is doing well and, unless there is evidence to the contrary, LB did well in getting him appointed.

If you read my post you know exactly what I think about the signings, but I will simplify it so even you can understand. I think the first few signings have been pretty poor, but I was defending Dyche for getting these players in the first place, as on paper it looked like good business. Get it now? My opinion as to how Dyche was appointed was formed from quotes at the time saying GT recommended Dyche to the board. But I am sure your version must be correct??. You're one of these that likes to make an argument over anything and you are very boring. This post was to say well done to Dyche, so stop trying to put your own agenda on it, you grumpy old man.

I never for one minute doubted we had ourselves a more than capable manager.

A big part of our success is that our work rate has improved since he took over.

    Well, fair play to you.

I was one that was pleased we promoted from within and saw the sense in Dyche being appointed, but was also very unsure in September/October. He does seem to be coming good now and whereas I criticised him on the lack of first team opportunities for the likes of Murray and Whichelow I do now think he may prove that he was actually judging the situation particularly well. We have seen Murray improve the team in the last couple of weeks and I think Whichelow's latest loan is with an eye on being involved in the first team squad when he returns.

Still a long way to go but the masterplan does seem to becoming more apparent. Well done Dychey, keep it up. I do wish you would shave those pubes from around your mouth though.

He has done alot better than some of the shyte managers (Brian Laws etc) we were linked with would have done.

We are a little way over halfway through the season. Some of you are going to look like mugs if our season crashes and burns. (see my earlier post).

Give yourselves more time to pass judgement (end of the season), rather than lauding him with praise now.

A poor start, so far a decent middle and I'm hoping that continues through until the end of the season.

A few poor signings, some good ones.

I doubted him completely at the start of the season as the football was as aimless as I have ever seen but he seems to be learning from his mistakes.

So far so good I reckon but there is still a way to go yet.

I did not notice that. So currently we are closer to a playoff place, then relegation. Way to go Dychey.

... but they weren't good business, were they.

I have agreed that I think that Dyche has done a good job. But I have pointed out that your assumption that a signing looks good on paper, but then "in hindsight" turns out to be a poor signing, then it isn't something that deserves congratulations. That is common sense, no matter how much you wriggle. In fact, many people had doubts about big Chris when he was signed, because, on paper, he wasn't actually really very good and many fans from his previous club couldn't believe how much we were paying for him. Ok, you believe he was a good signing, at the time, but many others didn't.

Having said that, those early poor signings shouldn't detract from the excellent job Dyche is doing now, but let's not go overboard.

If you honestly think that Bassini, the Clubs owner, had nothing to do with the appointing of Dyche in the first place then I don't know what planet you are on. Lets be honest, you just cannot bring yourself to say anything nice about the bloke at all.

Sometimes a little bit of humility in the right place, provides extra weight to other arguments posters may make. It can help show that they have a balanced view, rather than dogmatic and blinkered.

HB1, you can't seem avoid getting personally abusive when someone questions your opinion, can you? If you really knew me, then you wouldn't be saying what you do. All I am doing is pointing out, as I do with others and they do with me, that your opinion isn't necessarily right and sometimes deserves further discussion. That is what a discussion board is for. I can't see why you get so upset abusive about it. Chill out!

Ok, well I actually appreciate your tone in this particular reply and had you adopted this in your previous post I would have given you the same courtesy. I don't look to make enemy's on this board, it is not what I am about. I think you totally missed my point with regards what I was saying about the early signings. I did NOT think Iwelumo was a good signing, even at the time. I remember making a jokey comment like "we got him because the carrots are better in Watford than Burnley". I did think ****o and Yeates would be decent, but knew nothing of Forsyth. At the time, given what Dyche had to deal with, he did the best he could have done. That is basically the point of what I am saying. I did not congratulate him for making poor signings, but rather wanted to point out there was an intelligent logic behind those decisions. With regards the appointment of Dyche, I believe it was the "football" brains in the club that recommended Dyche, and Bassini approved it. If you want to give him lavish praise for that, then good for you. You mention the humility aspect, and I agree totally with what you say. Maybe you can take some of your advice also. Do NOT confuse a strong view with a blinkered one. As for Bassini, if he actually spoke to fans open and honestly, without every statement being contridcted and he actually delivered what he said he would, maybe I would far more trusting of the man. I just see someone that appears to want to pull the wool over people's eyes. This of course may not be true, but this is the impression he gives me.

He's signed THIRTEEN players so far!!!!!! Far more than Malky, Rodgers or Ray Lew did in their first 6 months! I get your point though..he is gradually making this 'his' team and its starting to show progress.

Why are football fans so fickle? honestly. Give it a rest with the praise and let's see how the rest of the season pans out.

How many of you will be singing his praises if we take 1/2/3 points out of a possible 12?

  28. Bubble

    Bubble Wise Oracle

    It's not being fickle!!

It's congratulating someone on there CURRENT performance after they were given a tough time when things weren't going well! No one is saying he's the best manager in the world. I'm happy for him because I want him to do well. He comes across as a genuine person and someone that cares about the club. Why can't people like me, who have been critical of him when he wasn't doing his job especially well, say well done!?

Personally I've supported Dyche the whole way through and I'm glad that people are starting to view him in the same way. I don't care if we don't win another game for the next two months; I've seen enough in him as a manager to suggest that he is good enough to manage the club regardless of any drop in form that we will probably have due to our lack of resources and general size of the club when pitted against other teams.

The one thing worse than fickle fans are fans who remain consistently stubborn due to them not wanting to be wrong and hence not giving praise to the manager or team when it is due.

Good for you supporting him all the way through.

As for your final sentence; page 1, bottom of the page. I will copy and paste for you  :

I will keep my cards close to my chest until the end of the season I think, purely because we all saw how well Malky did with us last season on that 9 odd game unbeaten run, only to crash and burn big time. So I just observe for the rest of the season. So far, it has been quite encouraging, the performance of the season so far undoubtably against Tottenham.

In terms of his transfer dealings, they have been largely successful (with the exception of Iwelumo). Nyron Nosworthy sticks out for me in particular, as he must be one of the best CB's in this division. Nosworthy stated in an interview about the feel-good factor every day at the training ground which is great to hear, and although it has been said several times before in the past, credit is due to Dyche for continuing this trend and creating a positive atmosphere among the squad. Also credit for bringing in Joe Garner who I believe will come good if we carry on playing proper football, and Jonathan Hogg.

I still believe that the Sordell transfer was a complete **** up, and we were made to look like complete mugs. My opinion won't change on this at all so please don't try to convince me otherwise, but I won't blame Dyche as I feel it was most likely out of his hands. I am disappointed though that we didn't manage to bring someone in if we insisted on selling him, and Dyche will probably admit that he could and maybe should in part answer for that (along with Wilson).

It would have been great to play as well earlier on in the championship as we did against Tottenham, but I accept that with so many ins and outs over the summer, it takes time for the squad to gel. Hopefully there will be less of a merry-go-round this summer and Dyche can have more time to prepare. He was also screwed over by (unty Mackay, so I won't blame him for not landing Conway etc.

I do question though why we did not get Sean Murray involved earlier on in the season. It's plain for all to see that he's a great talent, and it would have been beneficial for both the team and Murray himself if he were to make appearances off the bench earlier on in the season. He just offers so much, and is a different player to what we already have. Incredibly versatile as well. A shame he wasn't involved earlier on, but no point dwelling on the past too much I suppose. Murray will only play more from now on.

All in all, I think so far Dyche has done quite a good job so far, but it is imperative that he makes sure we carry on this momentum into the next few games. That FA cup performance will count for jack **** if we don't perform for the rest of this month and into March. Yes we have some difficult games coming up, but we performed magnificently against one of the best teams in England, so that is proof as to how well we can actually play. No excuses to go back to **** football. Yes I'm setting the bar high because Dyche surprised me with the Tottenham performance, and I want to see if Dyche has the bottle and talent as a manager to continue this and get performances out of the team like this when it really matters and we're not on on tv in a glamorous FA cup tie. As I say though, I will make a proper analysis of Dyche at the end of the season, as I think to do so now is quite frankly ludicrous. Good luck to Dyche at the team, keep doing what you're doing and you'll get a thumbs up from me come the end of the season.

Phew, my fingers are tired. Let me know what you think. Cheeky out.

Ok, so it seems to me that although you've been a bit reluctant to admit it and gone round the houses in explaining yourself, you actually feel very similar to the rest of us. Can I summarise?

Some of it hasnt been great.

    Some of it has improved.

    He's now doing quite well.

Lets hope he keeps it up.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Cheeky I can tell you why younger players werent in earlier. The team wasnt playing well, some fans were booing players, some wanted to overthrow the manager. Would you really blood youngsters then, would you? When we turn the corner and play a game no one expects us to do well in and the supporters are all at last behind the team - he brings him in, see what he did there? That wasnt luck or bad judgement it was a wise move the sort that GT used to do.
Yea you wait to the end of the season I wait for your analysis at the end of the season, I think your self importance reading just went off the scale, I should think your fingers are tired!

Haven't seen too much of Watford this season but from what I've seen Dyche has created a team that is very hard to beat. More impressively (and I think that a lot of supporters miss this) is the fact that we make good teams look a lot worse when they come to Vicarage Road. I've seen several managers complimenting Watford on how difficult they made it for their side. This isn't luck.

His signings have been hit and miss but every manager is bound to make mistakes in the transfer market six months into his first job. Boothroyd made plenty of mistakes (and he got very lucky with some that came off) early on in his time at Watford.

If we can add to the squad in the summer then I see no reason why we can't finish in the top 10 next year. I suspect that Mariappa will definitely be off though and we can expect bids for Hogg/Hodson.

Next summer will be the true test of Dyche's management skills.
