Thank you Sean, you've deserved a chance at least with the team you built last year in my opinion and a bit more loyalty from our own supporters.

The vast majority of supporters on here are of the view that Sean should have been given a chance to carry on this season and I don't see that there has been any great show of disloyalty.

If Bazza had carried on owning the club, then Sean and many others would have probably lost their jobs without any compensation. Therefore for the club to survive a purchaser had to be found. The supporters cannot turn round and say yes we will take your money but we insist on having our say on which staff you retain.

Yes it is unfair on Sean but that I am afraid is football nowadays. Lee Clarke had a much better record than Sean as manager at Huddersfield but they terminated his contract.

I'm sorry but what are you envisaging here? Sympathetic comments on here? Indignant letters to the WO? Protests at the first game of the season? A mass refusal to renew season tickets and buy shirts? Something more extreme?

No I'm not, I just think a lot of the posters are far too lenient with regards to this decision and I've always hoped we had a bit more class, as I said it's just my opinion along with what appears to be a minority of others. Not going to do anything rash like send my season tickets back either and perhaps I'm just being paranoid but I don't want to go back to a point where I don't feel an attachment to the team and the club as I did under Vialli's tenure.

Loyalty from supporters on here would be telling the Pozzo's to eff off, go back to Italy and stop sacking our staff etc. That's not on, after what they've done. We all knew this was coming so let's not pretend that we are surprised in any way.

How many people have thanked Dyche for the great job he did last season? Dozens and dozens from what I can see. I think you have thoroughly misinterpreted some of the reactions LLST.

It's just my opinion or view of things. It's not like I've been telling people be to eff off if I love Sean Dyche so much it is?

I think the critical thing here is that the Pozzos are not obligated to show loyalty to any member of staff at Watford just because they bought the club. They have no track record of working with any of our previous regime, whether backroom staff or players.

Considering they're putting in a pile of money into the club, and buying us as a business venture, it's unrealistic to expect them to make decisions on the basis of emotions or loyalty. They are approaching their purchase with pragmatism and achievement in mind, and not like an antique to be preseved and maintained.

I believe the fans have shown loyalty to Dyche, certainly as far as can be expected. Fans have been very vocal in their support for Sean, but if he has been removed, there is no need for an outburst of protests. The actions being taken here aren't malicious, they're simply a byproduct of an investment plan. It would be churlish of our fan base to be instantly critical of the Pozzos when, if you listen to rumour, they've saved a club that was on the brink of liquidation.

Sean has definitely done nothing wrong, and the key thing here is that he'll also come out of this better off. He'll get a year's salary as severance, and I have no doubt he'll get another better paying managerial post long before the year is out. He's got a good reputation right now, and will also ride a wave of media sympathy as a successful manager who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

As far as I am concerned, SD is a top bloke and I really want to see him do well at the next club he ends up at (except against us!).

I know you haven't been telling the Pozzo's to eff off etc., I'm just saying that loyalty in this case is appreciating the fantastic job Dyche did this season, and acknowledging that he's been hard done by, and not siding with him no matter what which is what you seemed to be suggesting.

But we were all very critical of Cardiff's owners changing their colours to red and their whole identity.

I suppose my whole fear is that we may move to a point where the new owners don't care what we think, do as they please whilst expecting us to just turn up and pay the ticket price. If that is what is all that being a supporter involves then why shouldn't we all just go and support the team that wins the League every year if our opinion doesn't matter?

(I'm not advocating that behaviour or saying that I would ever do such a thing, it's just a point of conjecture).

  11. Arakel

    Arakel First Team

That's not really true, though. I know I wasn't really critical of their owners, and I wasn't alone in that (though definitely the minority).

    Some scenarios:

    1. New owner wants to invest 100 million into a club on the verge of bankruptcy, but will only do so if the team changes their strip colour. As a fan of this club, do you oppose the decision or not?

    2. New owner wants to invest millions into a club on the verge of bankruptcy, and give it access to a scouting network considered by many to be among the best in the world. They want their own management team in place to train and develop the highly rated players they intend on registering at the club. As a fan of this club, do you oppose the decision or not?

The point is that you can't look at each decision in a vacuum. Removing the names of the clubs involved and putting the change in context alters the entire scenario significantly.

Cardiff's situation isn't a simple case of "the owners decided to change their home shirt colour". Our case isn't a simple situation of "Dyche got sacked". They're complicated and involved scenarios in which you have to look at the big picture to provide fair commentary.

Cardiff and Watford are gaining financial stability and investment that they both badly needed. both clubs were on the verge of serious financial problems. I think it is ultimately unfair (even ludicrous) to expect someone to come in and invest in a club without having input on how they intend to make good on their investment. I would have preferred Dyche in charge and Cardiff in Sky Blue, but if the cost of Sky Blue and Dyche was two bankrupt clubs, the price is too high. I think too many supporters are focusing on the little things they have lost without considering the massive things that COULD have been lost.

It's relevant though. Dispite my dis-like of the way football is going, I'm 100% happier being a Watford fan than a Cardiff fan at the moment.

As far as I can see Cardiff had Hobsons choice with their Malaysians, who it would seem purposely ran up the clubs debt before making their move. Due to bad (terrible) management from previous (and current) regimes it was a case of take the deal or go in to administration and lose their ground.

The promised £100Mil 'cash bailout' hasn't happened and the terms have changed already - the money paid so far is in the form of a loan (i.e. more debt, not less). The new boss has already thrown his toys out once and doesn't seem to have a plan or any desire to communicate with either the fans or the club CEO. In summary, Cardiffs board have literally sold their soul to the devil.

I'm hopeful that our situation is much rosier and we will see a greater degree of success, but I'm not fooled that the Pozzos are here for any other reason than to make money - and good luck to them because the more successful they are the more successful we should be.

    Good post Arakel.

In both scenarios you stated the answer has to be not to oppose the decision. No one wants their club to go out of existence. In a perfect world, Cardiff would have kept their identity and Watford would have kept Dyche in some capacity, but as you quite rightly point out, these are small details. No one man is bigger than the club, and while I agree club colours are more emotive, is it really that big a deal? Watford used to play in blue, and every club has an away strip so will regularly change it's colours anyway throughout the course of a season.

The financial security of a club is paramount, and if all it takes is relatively small changes to make it happen, so be it.

His remark was simply that some people would rather be unsuccessful but keep their 'identity' than be handed lots of money and success but change it. Many of whom are now wearing the kit of the Red Dragons.

I think people need to ease up to be honest. Anyone who doesn't agree that everything is brilliant in every way is getting called this that and the other and getting flamed all over. Not everyone wants the same thing or thinks identically, last time I checked it wasn't a rule on this board to agree with the majority.

In fairness, Cardiff were in serious trouble before the Malaysians even came onto the scene. Cardiff have been on the verge of going into meltdown for years. There have been many posts from people on this very forum stating that it is crap that they were able to continue to sign players on inflated wages/fees when so far in debt. Cardiff's new stadium completed before the Malaysians even made their first investment into the club.

I agree that the problems can be directly attributed to terrible management from previous regimes, but to lay the blame on the Malaysians is inaccurate. Cardiff have been over 30 million in the red for a significant amount of time now.

The part I find interesting is that most of the fans didn't make a noise over moving to a new stadium, but those same fans are kicking up fits over changing their strip's colour.

For me, a club's home stadium is far more important than the colour of the shirt they are wearing. As has already been noted in this thread, we've changed our strip colour before, and I've never seen anyone claim it cost Watford their identity. If anything, it gave us the identity we enjoy today.

There is one important difference between Cardiff's kit change and Watford's managerial change.

Cardiff have known from day one why the owners believe it is necessary, and what they think it will achieve. They don't all agree with it, some are even threatening to walk away from the club over the change, but they have heard at length the other side of the story. So far, the only convincing argument in favour of the Zola appointment is that the Pozzos have the right to make that call. I don't dispute that, but surely they have a good reason for doing it, beyond an ego trip?

I'd take our owners over Cardiff's any day of the week for what it's worth. What I do find surprising is that some of the very same people who (correctly) point out that GT and SEJ aren't omnipotent beings, are among those unconditionally defending every call the Pozzos make.

I don't know if you're referring to me in your last point, as I certainly point out GT and SEJ aren't omnipotent from time to time, however, I'm not unconditionally defending the Pozzos. My defence on them is totally conditional on my belief that they are doing the right thing.

I don't want to get into whether the sacking is fair or not (it isn't but hey - it's is the Pozzos prerogative) - I just want to pay my respects to Dyche who has been a pillar of strength and stability in a sea of insecurity and uncertainty. He deserves so much credit for last season but also for his work at the club before he became manager.

All the best in the future - I am sure you will become a great success.

supported the orns since 77 and never posted on here before but feel obliged. wanted for a long time to have right backing, business plan and financial support. But for that to result in the sacking of the first manager in ages who seems honest, genuinely cares and looks like he really knows what he is doing is just such a shame. right end point overall - but at the same time gutted

Welcome Graham, I agree it is a shame about SD and I personally don't agree with it, but in the end the club is more important, and if losing Sean is the price we have to pay for the overall good of WFC, which I think this takeover will be, then so be it!!!
