Roy Hodgson is the sixth man to manage Watford since they last kept a Premier League clean sheet!!

My dad has always been convinced it stems back to GT subbing him for England in his final appearance, or something of that nature. Seems a bit pie in the sky to me but maybe someone else can chime in if there’s any truth to it - was before my time of getting into football.

The tosser looks down his nose at us because we're not a big club and he doesn't think we've got a right to be in the Premier League

Apologies for repeating myself but I know about four people who have dealt with GL in different capacities.
None of them had a good word to say about him, quite the opposite.

Good luck to Roy and Ray. Give it your best shot and coach some common sense defending and we may just have a chance of staying up. Not likely, but we will see.

Silly stat (since it includes managers who didn’t manage in the Premier League). In fact, did you know that Luton have had many more managers since they last kept a top flight clean sheet.

    Definitely.

So he missed the chance to equal the goal scoring record .

But then he also messed this penalty up to match it as well.

All true. Small minded people hold grudges for a lifetime, and there’s no mind smaller than Gary Lineker’s. He blamed GT forever after that. That hatred has now been transferred to his former club since he’s no longer around.

The sort of micro level attention to detail and tactical positioning that was so clearly lacking under Ranieri.

Unlike most people in their mid 70s of course. I've always imagined Dom the hornet as being incredibly fit, lithe and athletic for his age, with timeless chiselled looks and hoards of orgasmic women vying for his attention.

He's there. If you listen carefully you hear Roy say:

"Well done Moussa, well done you two" - It's common knowledge Sissoko and Danny are good mates.

There was an almost identical video of Claudios first session. Lots of words in ears, smiles and hand movements.

I've noticed a theme about Ranieri, he did this, didnt do that and failed tactically. Its generally wrong (not having a pop at you brlr) Ranieris post match talks always met with the game you'd just watched, no fill about game of two halves or "in this moment" nonsense. His substitutions and tactics we're generally good and only gripes in playing players like Sema or Kabasele who he hasnt had the luxury of knowing will not produce the goods again and again, because he's still learnig his players. Its not the same as persevering with Jurado blindly. He was trying things, he failed because the players didnt change their losing mentality and he couldnt turn that around in the time he had, not that he didnt know what was wrong with the setup or what he was doing. Add to that, the first run of tough games, Sarr injured, Covid disruption, AFCON incidents and throwing new players straight in, means he had so much turbulence in just 14 games!

I'd be more suprised if Roy turned it around than if he didn't thats for sure.

I basically agree with what you say about CR, he didn't really have much chance to change things for the reasons you stated.

However, if what I have been reading about his general relationship with the players is correct, it was probably time for him to go, because that was not a good thing even if he had possibly been well on the way to getting things right tactically.

As for Roy I think he might have enough about him to put whatever is currently wrong with the team right and hopefully build a better relationship with the players than CR apparently had, which at the end of the day might just be what has been wrong as opposed to CR's actual playing tactics.

From what I saw on that short clip of Roy taking training yesterday he certainly seems to be very hands on and does not appear to BE afraid to speak his mind be it good or bad. I expect he will have a big shake up of the players attitudes and hopefully get us back on a winning track.

I have had a look at our remaining fixtures and I think there are possible 23 winnable points to be had from our remaining fixtures, throw in one unexpected win and then I reckon with the wind in the right direction we could just survive on those 23 to 26 points which would give us a total 37 to 40 points.

His setup turned out to be the same every match. 4-3-3. The only thing he tinkered with was the personnel on the pitch. His inflexibility was a big contributor to results in the end.

In fairness, we don't have the personnel for much flexibility in formation.

We can't play 3 centre halves as we can barely field 2 most of the time.

We can't field more than 3 midfielders most of the time.

Out squad is so poorly assembled and balanced that 4-3-3 seems to pick itself as the formation.

Agree with that. Although also agree with moog that it almost picked itself. I'm a little suprised we didn't go 5 at the back, with 2 wingbacks. But when have Kamara and Kiko been both available? Never. Also then do you go 5 defenders v Newcastle or Norwich at home? He'd have been ridiculed! 442 involves Sema Cucho Dennis or Pedro left midfield.

Hopefully Roy can get the best of 3 or 4 players for a while and hope that we find a balanced team overall.

Theres also a whiff of the players dont like it, toys out the pram Sannino /Ivic esque. Quickest thats ever happened, which is on the players. Again.

I think there is a reason we’ve mostly been 4-3-3 since Munoz accidentally stumbled on it once Deeney was Injured, and that is it’s the best fit for our awful squad.

We’ve got an awful defence and Moussa aside awful midfielders. Our attack is the strongest part about us, so 4-3-3 gets the most out of what we’ve got.

We’re like a leaky bucket, so when you change formation you’re just covering one hole but uncovering another anyway.

Just please don't play Rose or Sema. We've been through that already.

In fact I'm praying that neither are here at the end of the month.

Apparently a 7 figure bonus for Roy if he keeps us up.

The question is what happens if we sack him two games early?

    I hope he’s got a good lawyer.

He'll still be catching his breath half way down Vicarage Road. He'll still be able to hear him if Woy shouts loudly enough.

I’ve read this ‘6th manager since our last PL clean sheet’ stat quite a lot these past two days, but I don’t get it.

The last clean sheet was under Pearson, the 3-0 v Liverpool amazingly enough. So we can’t count him in it? Then came Mullins, Ivic (but that’s a red herring as he didn’t manage us in the PL), then Xisco and Ranieri. So including the caretaker, it’s 4?

Here’s my stat offering for the day. Since Pozzo arrived, we’ve had only three fewer managers than West Ham have in their entire history!

True but the biggest thing I noticed was that at the start he was all about us pressing, which you can do with 433, but within weeks hthat went completely out the window...
