Most of the u16 lot are still a little raw for the kind of first team impact Guehi or Gallagher had with Cooper at Swansea. Still some decent names which I’ll list below. He also coached the u20s the year before so could pick up a few of those though they’re at a different point on their trajectory of course.

Good point. But I doubt the EFL wants to say that all release clauses for managers are voided by their regulations which is what they’d need their panel to conclude for us to face repercussions.

 

But what’s the answer to that conundrum? Surely any manager we get (who isn’t 60+) and does great would dump us anyway?

I’d have preferred Manning or Martinez but I’m happy with this appointment.

Good appointment. Sean Dyche was originally let go due to not being able to attract big names so they brought in Zola. Will udinese reserves want to play for a lower league manager?

 

I’d doubt he’d have any better suitors if he gets us up in the same way there were absolutely none for Munoz and Joka, getting us up isn’t going to impress anyone.

He’ll only have suitors if he gets us up then does well the following season, a nice problem we’ll probably be very happy to have.

 

My preferred option was always Martinez but I think we could all recognise that he probably going to be unattainable upon relegation to the championship.

I'm pretty happy with this appointment. Plays a 3/5 at the back system which is a formation that could work really well in the championship whilst also being an effective formation to transition into the Premier League with should we win promotion.

A lot to be excited about here if he is given time and a bit more power than usual (unlikely as we are all aware).

As others have mentioned a 2 year deal, whilst an improvement on the 1 year or an "until the end of the season" type deal we're used to, still doesn't fill me with much confidence that Gino is going to completely change his ways.

Head Coach, not manager, I see. So he'll have to make do with whoever Mogi gives him.

 

A rookie coach, who ended the season with a long run of poor results. Never coached above League Two. Sure he’s not a complete dud, but it’s all potential with him. He could easily turn out to be nothing special. In fact I’d say that’s probably likely.

I just don’t see this as the realistic turning point in the hire and fire culture. I think it’s more likely to be just a continuation of the same.

 

I fear you might be right. This is where I'd like Giaretta to come out and say Edwards has been on our radar for some time, he / his minions have watched FGR and sought references from those he's worked with etc. Sadly it's more likely he was a tip provided by an agent and as the price is right we've gone for him.

I'm hearing Mogi introduced him to us. Cost to us only 6 months compensation to FGR plus £3m agent fees.

 

Let's be honest. Edwards CV probably arrived, and his middle name is probably Oliver.

Giaretta misread it as "Roberto Edwards" and was sold immediately. He was that excited he forgot to speak to Forest Green.

 

It's a 2yr deal with the option of an extra year - so effectively a 3yr contract.

That, in my opinion, is about right for 99% of head coaches now and especially for a club who aren't loaded with money.

It means if he does well he'll be rewarded with a contract extension or if he does really well, a new deal will no doubt be offered. Possibly a clause whereby if promotion is secured a new deal would be negotiated.
Watford could also trigger the extension to maximise any compensation in the event another club takes him off our hands.

But as he's pretty inexperienced, should he do particularly badly it will mean the club isn't paying out for a 4 or 5yr contract in compensation. Something the club just cannot afford to do.

So in my eyes it seems a sensible approach whereby success is rewarded but failure doesn't heap more financial trouble on the club.

On a side note, I wonder how much contact he's had with Omer Riza, the u23 coach who is involved with Englands u17s at the moment.

The vegan thing is/was a wider club initiative that supersedes the manager, I doubt he’ll implement it but if he does then that’s only a good thing, as our Pozzo head coaches generally only get a say in the team selection (sometimes) and that’s about it.

 

Wanted too much control apparently, even to the extent of picking his own match day XI

 

Or was given the QPR job…
