The key part, of course, being that its about a lot more than simply destabilising the other club.

Tapping up a member of staff who is under contract is a big no-no. There's no defending it, it's simply unethical.

If he wasn't under contact, however, there's no case to answer.

I broadly agree with you and clearly it is not akin to the Silva situation. But still a shame for the club to not quite do it above board. If thing had gone right the media would present us the smart club taking an educated punt instead were the big bad Wolf and it is a bit of a dampener on his appointment.

The media could still present us as that, but the FGR owner has got his word in first, even if it's false, and the media already hates us anyway.

The fans could also consider which is the more relevant take, but just choose to believe the FGR owner.

Plus if Edwards was only on a 1 year deal then there's not really much "above board" necessary.

And as I've already pointed out elsewhere, discussions with managers who are under contract often take place via intermediaries before an official approach is made to the club to sound out if they'd actually be interested, e.g. Utd with Ten Hag and Swansea with Martin. Nothing Watford may or may not have done here is at all unusual, or against "protocol", yet posters are still trying to claim it's evidence that the club is unique in its actions.

Its an odd appointment in some ways.

Rob Edwards made his name as a youth coach. At FGR his first act was to clear out the veterans and recruit 20/21 year olds to develop and in some cases sell on at a profit (maybe this is the bit that attracts the Pozzos). Has full control of the first team without any inference from VD, doesn't and wouldn't work with a Director of Football or interfering directors, henchmen etc, will want to bring his own team, Kyle etc.

It must mean WFC have decided there has be a clear-out, all the saleable assets and over 30s to go. RE with a free hand to rebuild, Gino stepping back.

    OR

Financially the opportunity is too good for RE to miss and he is just willing to do his best with whatever squad gets thrown at him. Either way he will finally be able to have a bacon sandwich at training.

Is the criteria actual Welsh boys, or the Welsh national team interpretation, i.e. English boys? ;)

My reading of the situation is that FGR are, understandably, disappointed about losing their manager, but they had not secured him for next season and are far too quick to throw **** in our direction to distract from their own failings.

The crucial issue for me is that young Rob is a success with us.

The previous two managers made me look young. This guy makes me look like an oap!

Have you maybe thought that some fans have stopped to ‘consider’ which is the more relevant take - and then have come down on the initial side of tending to think it smacks of how our ownership act currently and that’s why they are tending to believe it’s true?

Fair enough. Although I assume it’s a clause for clubs of a certain level to trigger - because that’s crazy for FGR to agree to otherwise.

Long and short of it - their chairman is pi*sed because we triggered a clause in his contract without telling them first, which we weren’t obliged to do.

Fairs fair @lowerrous - I would still have alerted FGR to our actions but I guess that’s a question of different peoples interpretation of what was morally right. And football finds itself increasingly not bothered with that type of thing!

Excellent news, that's the first three months of the season taken care of! Who's in line to be his replacement after we're not top by November?

Their chairman has accused us of ‘doubling down on deceit’ despite us doing things that we were legally allowed to?

    Now that is slander!

If that's true then seems like they're making much ado about nothing.

Probably to save face with their fanbase given the (on the face of it) silly decision to give him an easy contractual out.

Suspect there was a desperation to get this done before this evening.

Seems like Mr Vince doesn’t really have a leg to stand on. Baffling behaviour really. I get that he’s frustrated but if he didn’t want this to happen he could have structured the contract differently.

Except we are under league rules, which are clear they apply whether or not the approach involves a breach of contract. I can't imagine Vince will formally complain though... at least until the cheque for 6 months compensation bounces and Scott stops answering his calls.

Soooo, I've been seeing a lot of FGR fans say that he's a bit one-dimensional and that his in-game management is a work in progress, although I don't know how much of that is just them seething (4 wins in their last 17 in the league seems to indicate that, and apparently they had the best team in the league anyway). On the plus side, I notice that he's managed England U16s, I wonder who he had in that cohort? Could we get a few really good young lads on loan like Steve Cooper did at Swansea?

Just seen this. Initial thoughts are this is exactly the sort of manager we should be going for. He will need to be given more control than previous managers and more time (can't even type this with a straight face). He's come from a wholesome, environmentally friendly club. Fantastic.

Oh ...wait, we tapped him up and upset that wholesome club? Never change Poxbury. Never change.

I’m not sure what the sequencing of what happened was but surely the FGR/Edwards’ freedom of contract would trump here. I think Vince would have a tough time in court saying that the contractual term his team has drafted should be voided due to EFL regulations.
