The legend that is Richard Hughes could easily perform two jobs at once.

Echo your thoughts entirely WFC4ever, optimistic about the appointment but what is it about the Pozzos that they have to do everything 'in secret' and rub people up the wrong way? Can I recommend you a good book Gino "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie?

FGR is my local club these days.

Don’t worry about Dale Vince’s opinions on it all. Loud mouthed, nasty, snake oil salesman. The silence from the Pozzos is definitely preferable to his showboating.

I’m not sure about Rob Edwards. Talks an excellent, progressive game in super modern style. Like most L2 clubs squad turn over was massive when he took over and he quickly made a very effective team. I’d be very excited but the end of season collapse in form was was alarming.

Fingers crosssed. If he does succeed and sticks around with us press will definitely be on his/our side for a change.

Was it just form suddenly nosediving or were there other factors (injuries/egos etc?)

It seems my knee jerk reaction wasnt warranted, his contract was up in June anyway. I have never heard of him until now but I like what I have read. Is Gino learning do you think as Edwards experience with youth could be a pointer to a new way forward? I will wait and see what the transfer policy is during this summer before unleashing my judgement.

He's not watching tonight's game is he? Might second guess the choice.... :(

A post that I fully agree with and endorse. I hope that Podgson hasn't got away lightly with his behaviour since being here.

Welcome Rob. I do question his sanity for taking this job. Perhaps the money was too good to refuse for him.

I just have this feeling that we've hired potentially a great manager but will lumper him with a very average squad of "I'll be alright Jack" footballers.

Bet we get them in the League Cup !

Will look even more silly if he is sacked after 2/3 months which as they will probably expect promotion is likely .

I suppose this seems like a step in the right direction and a sign that the club are acknowledging they need to do things differently .

The championship is a step up from league 2. We may well need to give him time though, otherwise how will this be any different . I wonder how many on here will be calling for his head if we are mid table in October .

Not sure if it’s been said already as I haven’t scrolled through the thread but surely the timing of this isn’t coincidence? Right before a home game where a toxic atmosphere was expected. This has to be the smallest bit appeasing for some and I bet that what’s Gino & Scott were banking on.

As long as we are playing well generally, and actually look like a footballing side again, I think most will be on board with how he starts. Most of us don't expect us to challenge for the top two come May, however a late playoff push should be the aim.

I think given parachute payments the hope should be that we’re in the automatic promotion race for much of the season. That said, if we play enjoyable attacking football with young players then the fan base and the board will be satisfied enough with a play off place.

Good to finalise this deal early. Not 100% sure he is the right pick, but at least he'll have a full pre season.

Ok I’ll take your word for it . But having read this forum for many years I’d be surprised . If that is the expectation of most on here then what will people be moaning about ?

To be fair, it was overwhelmingly positive about the club/side when we finished in the playoffs under Zola so I think those times can come again.

But I do agree, we will need to be in and around those spots all season for the natives to stay on board. A late push won’t suffice for fans and I doubt Edwards would survive being out of the playoff places for long.

I think our expectations about the club and where it should be are higher than they were during the Zola era. I’m not sure Edwards would survive a 78 point season and I’m not sure the fan base would want him to (although we are likely to be fairly charitable if we play good football with young players and seem to be improving).

Good results gloss over bad performances and vice versa. If we’re playing nice football but not in the playoffs that will be frustrating because it means inconsistency and almost certainly a terrible defence that regularly undoes any good forward play. People almost certainly won’t put up with that despite what they think now.

Yeh exactly . And my expectations will probably be ( depending on the squad we end up with ) challenging for top 2 as well . But how much of that is the mindset that has been set by the clubs hiring and firing policy . So if we really don’t like this then don’t we need to adjust our expectations as well , assuming what we are seeing is at least encouraging in some ways .

Forest Green had earlier said negotiations between Watford and Edwards took place "behind our backs".

Club gets more and more likeable by the hour.

    correct.

Per Wiki ("anyone can edit wiki")
Taylor led Lincoln to the Fourth Division title in 1976;[8] his team's 32 wins, 4 defeats and 74 points were all league records (when 2 points were awarded for a win).[11][12] Lincoln finished 9th in the Third Division in 1976-1977 under Taylor.[10]

He's an oddball idiot who is used to being the centre of attention and getting his own way. Looking forward to their relegation next season.

I think he did a good job with FGR, built a decent cohesive team - and to be fair to him that is something that we have all been crying out for on here.

Still not sure about the manner in which he has ended up here. Whether Dale Vince is right or not, we have taken a pasting in the media tonight. Are we the new Millwall? (no-one likes us and we don't care).

  35. I wonder if a lot of the dropped players tonight was at this guys request?!

Saying he only wanted players playing going forward who were going to be here next season.

Maybe not but was just a thought.
