If I were a Motherwell/Hibs/Hearts/fan of any other team apart from the 'big 2', I would throw in the towel and stop supporting the SPL all together. A farce of a league. It really is.

A few years ago you could have said the same about the Premiership. It was either Man U or Chelsea to win the league.

There's no point in a rich person taking over a club like Hibs/Motherwell/Dundee UTd etc because they could never get the fan base of the big two to complete financially. You would be throwing money down the drain.

There's plenty of clubs in England that are big enough to invest in ie Derby/Leeds/Shefff Wed etc.

A couple of years ago I went up to Perth to visit a mate. We saw the 'Saints' in the afternoon (vs IVCT) and went out that evening for drinks/dinner. We were having a smoke outside a boozer when a party of loud/p155ed girls arrived at the door. The doorman was a bit uncomfortable about letting them into the pub and was questioning them. I was just stubbing out my smoke, re-entering the pub when I heard the following exchange "...we're all Rangers but we support do support Scotland..."

Back in the pub, I asked my mate WTF that was all about? He told me that a *significant* section of the Rangers supporters felt that they were so victimised by the SFA that they refused to support the Scottish national side, and as a 'protest' followed England. You couldn't make it up.

Its more to do with a dislike for the tarten army than the SFA that Rangers fans dont follow Scotland, wouldnt say they follow England instead they just dont hate us.

Followed England home and away for 20 odd years and at the Finals always groups of Rangers Fans.

Its a bit like some Man Utd who are English but always support the team playing England, The Majority of Rangers fans do support Scotland. Just the ones that follow England get the headlines, think it goes back to the relationship they have with Chelsea!

The Rangers away kits always seem to be a good fan of St George and England, quite often white with blue shorts and the other year they had a big red cross on them as well.

HMRC have rejected the CVA so,

“Under the terms of the deal struck by Green's consortium to buy Rangers, it will now proceed to purchase the business and assets of Rangers for £5.5m.”

How can the assets of Rangers only be worth £5.5m when this is covering the Stadium, Training ground and players. The creditors are being shafted and how can the administrators say they have done the best for the creditors??

I see they have done well for themselves by receiving £5.5m in fees.

Frightening. You could buy the ground alone for £10Mil and make a profit over a few short years. Sounds very dodgy to me - shame HMRC can't make an offer of £12Mil to buy the ground, that'd put the cat among the pidgeons...

But with the SFA wanting them to start again in the Scottish Premier :dismay: Even if not voted in by the other clubs they'd still be put in the Scottish 3rd Div, so back to the Prem within 3 years i.e. no punishment at all from the football authorities.

I'm sure the same will happen when one of the 'big' clubs in England go under too. Financial fair play my arse.

[h=1]Sky threaten to pull plug on SPL deal[/h][h=2]The turmoil at Rangers has taken a dramatic new twist with a report claiming that Sky Sports could keep the club in the top flight. [/h]Eurosport – 47 minutes ago

    • [IMG]Sky threaten to pull pl …more

The Glasgow giants face being thrown into Scotland's Third Division if they head into liquidation and re-form as a new club.
But Sky has a financial gun to the head of the SPL: the Daily Record claims that the broadcaster will pull the plug on its £110 million deal to show Scottish football if Rangers head into the fourth tier.
Sky's deal only makes financial sense because of the immense commercial value of the four Old Firm derbies each season - and it is not prepared to keep the agreement in place for the minimum three seasons it would take Rangers to win promotion back to the SPL.
"No Rangers equals no Sky, unless Gers are back very soon," a source at the broadcaster told the Daily Record. "It's just not going to be commercially worth it if it's going to be any longer than 12 months with no Old Firm league games."
The threat leaves SPL club chiefs in a dilemma: the TV deal is the financial lifeblood of Scottish football, yet the clubs - and particularly their fans - want to see Rangers punished for their woeful mismanagement.
Only eight of the 12 SPL clubs need to vote for relegation to throw Rangers down the leagues, and fans are threatening to boycott their clubs if their chairmen dole out too soft a punishment. Yet the Daily Record claims half of the clubs in the SPL would go out of business without the TV cash.
A date for the SPL's debate, and vote on Rangers' relegation, is set to be scheduled for the next few days with the matter due to be settled by mid-July - and a compromise of a one-division (and therefore probably one-year) relegation looks like the preferred option.

So liquidate, Rangers, liquidate Scottish football.

My initial reaction was Sky are feckers for suggesting this but I can understand it from a commercial point of view. If they are not going to get the revenue then when it comes to renewign any deal in place then this needs to be factored in.

    Ondigital/ITVdigital all over again?

I really do think we need to stop being so unfair on Rupert Murdoch, it's not his fault he has so much power so that his companies can behave as if the law doesn't apply. (Illegibly).

Going to buy out Bury and enter league 1? How is that possible? will they just change their name and sign all of their former players?

  26. nascot

It won't happen, there's no way the FA would allow it. They don't want Rangers in the English leagues and they won't (or shouldn't!) fall for this. Bury have also said it won't happen. A bit of a pisstake to even consider it in the first place really.

Why should Bury fans have their club taken away just because one of the big boys in Scotland failed to manage their club probably off the pitch.

They could swap? In all fairness, Bury would be the second biggest club in Scotland and they would be able to get a full house twice a year for the derby game!

Good to see the other clubs in the SPL say no to the newco team staying in the SPL.

Imagine Rangers (or whatever the new club is actually called) being in tier 10 of the English football league system...

But, to a degree, they are shooting themselves in the foot. Revenues will be down significantly in the SPL next season. I wouldn't be surprised to see that cause more casualties.

Its what Motherwell said..but then its about time a big club were punished for not doing what everyone in the real has to do..

    PAY TAX!

I see most of their players have walked away so it really is a new start for Rangers.
