“NYRON Nosworthy has been allowed to play for Watford in the FA Cup today, even though Martin O’Neill admits he toyed with keeping the on-loan defender free for Sunderland’s own cup campaign.

The centre-half’s loan with the Hornets ends this weekend and with Sunderland hit by a spate of injuries at the heart of the back four – Wes Brown, Titus Bramble and Michael Turner all missing over the New Year period – O’Neill considered keeping Nosworthy potentially available for later rounds in the cup.

Instead, the Sunderland manager has allowed Nosworthy to play in Watford’s cup game against Bradford this weekend.

He is also mulling over whether or not keep the defender on Wearside after the weekend and look to work the same magic with the former Gillingham man as he has done with fellow misfit Matt Kilgallon.

For the moment, the fact that Michael Turner is closing in on fitness after a six-week lay-off with a knee problem swung O’Neill’s decision to agree to Watford’s cup request.

He said: “I had a worry there because of the injury situation, but in the end I have given Watford permission to play Nyron in the cup.

“He’s enjoying playing down there, he feels a bit of an affinity towards Watford and in many ways, I didn’t want to spoil it for him by saying he couldn’t play in the cup.

“But it had crossed my mind that we might have no other option.

“Thankfully, Michael Turner came through 70 minutes for the reserves at Arsenal this week and with that in mind, Nyron will be able to play for Watford, even though it means he would be cup-tied.”

While Nosworthy’s two-month loan is now at an end, Watford boss Sean Dyche wants to prolong the former Gillingham man’s stay until the end of the season as the Hornets fight relegation.

O’Neill said: “I would have loved to have gone to see him play in person, but it just hasn’t been possible because of the number of games we have had over Christmas and New Year.

“But I have been sent the DVDs of his performances and I would like to have a little look at him.”

Nosworthy is Sunderland’s longest-serving player, having joined the club in the summer of 2005, but is out of contract this summer and his last first-team appearance for the Black Cats came two years ago this month."

Like this wisdom! Perhaps now LBH you should think on what Harrow Horn said, tell me do you now consider Nosworthy crap? We should out these sort of posts and perhaps people will be shamed into being a bit more real and a little less Know-it-all (the facts suggest otherwise). COYH!

Bit harsh to single out LBH. Most people thought it was a terrible signing.

Had an update, we want him and he's desperate to stay. Apparently Martin O'Neill is being incredibly difficult and thus it's not looking good.

Thanks for the update. This is strange, seeing as we were allowed to play him today in the cup. Clearly Sunderland do not want him, and if I were a player and my parent club let me play in the cup for a loan club, it's a big insult. Nosworthy wants out, Watford want him and Sunderland don't. O'Neill has a reputation as being unorthodox, and I think Watford have to approach this with kid gloves in order to get what they want. I think it's a case of fingers firmly crossed on this one.

You've picked a post where I have said that I think he was a poor signing and that I think he is a carp player. Why didn't you also pick out one of my other posts where I state that he has been superb and completely proved me wrong, out of interest?

Like LBH, i'm pretty sure I expressed my disappointment when we signed him because we were bringing in a 'journeyman' loanee when we could have used the chance to serve some youth products...

However, I'm delighted we didn't - Nyron has been excellend, and I for one will be very disappointed if we are unable to keep him for longer. He's been fantastic since he joined us and certainly sured up the back line!

I could say a lot about O'Neill but im genuinely afraid to post anything on here, he has history of suing anyone and everyone

Another football forum I frequent has banned any mention of his name in any capacity due to his love of litigation

O'Neil probably does not want him, but thinks he could get more for him from somebody else, so if we do get him, it won't be until the very end of the window, if Sunderland can't get a better offer from elsewhere IMO!!!

I think I am safe now.

I would love Nos to stay, I was dubious about his signing at first but he has proved me wrong.

I think in fairness to MON he has no defenders at present (i.e. Bramble, Turner & O'Shea all injured) and is just trying to do the best thing for his team!

My point is BEFORE he played lots of people are telling me what a load of rubbish he is, it has happened with several players now. Harrow Horn replied to your dissaproval by saying wait and see how he plays for us. It makes people look a bit stupid if one day they say A the next they say B - where is the consistancy or valid judgement? I could not quote everyone so I used yours as a long standing poster who I see as having valid contributions - I aimed high LBH! :naughty:

Some will say every signing is poor. I remember some people moaning when we first signed King, and lots of people moaning when we first signed McGinn despite the fact most wouldn't have seen him play. My original thoughts on Nos being a poor signing were based on some of his performances against us in recent years - some of which have been hysterically bad.

I'm delighted you chose me, it's truly an honour and I thank my family and friends for their support in getting me to this stage - however I am going to make an assumption here that your point was more aimed towards people that label every signing we make as a poor one. If so then that aint me.

Again, for the record, Nos has been solid for us. When it comes to his legends interview with us I will be happy to tell him I was dubious about his signing but also that I thought he was great for us.

I believe NN has gone back to Sunderland, he will be sorely missed, lets just all hope he will be back ASAP, preferably on a permanent deal, but if not, then a deal to the end of the season please :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

Interesting reading the comments on the Marvin Sordell post too. I remember saying at the start of a season Luther Blissett misses too often - get rid. Then he helped tear up all the leagues with goals aplenty. Learnt my lesson then, players develop, as do young managers. Some players do better at a new club. Some just click like Sunderland +MON. The fact you remembered Nos having a bad game 3 years ago v Player of the season at Sunderland on the way to the Prem would have cut him some slack surely?

It wasn't one bad game against us, it was several bad games plus the reaction from other supporters of clubs he has played for. A Sheff Utd fan heard we signed him and sent me an e-mail detailing how bad he had been for them, so my reaction wasn't based on one performance but as I've stated I'm happy to say I was wrong and he has been great for us.

Sordell is a different kettle of fish, I've never said he is a bad player and I have never thought that. The boy oozes talent but lacks application, in my opinion.

Ha! You're keen, I will give you that. Allow to me to put it simply for you, as you seem to be struggling.

I think Sordell is hugely talented, and possibly the best thing to come out of our academy - including Ashley Young. His all round game IS cack, as in not very good, as in could be a lot better if he tried. All round game consisting of tracking back, working hard, bringing others in to play. So yes, I do think his all round game is cack but that he is hugely talented. He also seems to be noticably better and harder working ever since the Leeds game, why do you think that is?

You went to uni, didn't you?

  24. IRB

IRB THe artist formally know as ImRonBurgundy?

Tracking back - not a quality im massively bothered about for a striker who is instructed to play on the last defender's shoulder

Working hard - getting much better at this, a clear improvement over the course of this season

Bringing others in to play - second most assists in the entire squad, created 2 goals on Saturday for Deeney and Forsyth

You didnt go to uni, did you?

It is a debate that has been done to death and I have no real interest in getting into it again. We clearly have differing opinions on Sordell, as do most members of this board - you seem to have an issue in letting it lie.

And no, I didn't...or 'didnt', if you like. Trawl back through a few more of my posts and you will see what one sense I feel students lack.

Stop talking **** and i'll stop pulling you up on it

It's not that there is no comeback, it is that it has been done to death already and people are bored of reading it much like the other repeated drivel that gets posted over and over agian on here. Everyone on here knows what I think of Sordell, everyone knows you don't agree. What is it you don't get?

  28. IRB

IRB THe artist formally know as ImRonBurgundy?

Just don't get how you can say he doesnt bring others into play when he has the second most assists in the squad and created two goals in our last game

A strange criticism to make, perhaps your personal dislike of Sordell is clouding your judgement. We already know, from your constant diatribes against students, that you find it hard to dislodge a chip from your shoulder

  29. leighton buzzard horn

It's all about an opinion, as I've already said. Since his Leeds penalty he has improved, as I've already said. Going over the same old stuff and repeating the same stuff over and over again is boring, not very entertaining and only ends up going one way - ask JB.

Now, you'll have to find someone else posts to trawl through as I am going out.

"Watford are closing in on a permanent deal for Sunderland's Nyron Nosworthy, Sky Sports understands.

The 31-year-old has just returned to the Stadium of Light following a successful loan spell at Vicarage Road.

Nosworthy is one of a number of loan players that Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill wanted to cast his eye over following his appointment.

With defensive reinforcements in short supply at Sunderland, Nosworthy appeared set to challenge for first-team place.

However, Watford have since moved to try and secure the return of the central defender - affectionately known as 'The Nos'.

Now a deal appears to be close and he looks set to agree an 18-month deal with the Championship outfit."

    Get in!
