  1. It is a matter of perception I guess. WhoScored's got Amrabat down with better average performances than Pereyra (including 'Batty's poop end of the season), but we've been told Bob's the golden boy, where as some pundit said Amrabat had no end product during a game where he was constantly putting the ball into a box with no one in sight. Nothing will convince me that any Watford fan independently came to the conclusion that Nordin didn't play well at the start of the season. You can say what you like, if you think he didn't, you are a sheep following a very flawed opinion.

WhoScored isn't the be all and end all, but when I read the poop talked about Amrabat on here, it does help to see that despite the inane DVD commentary, I am not the only one who thinks he's not as poop as he's made out to be.

This forum, brilliant though it is, is a very small, and very isolated place, full of top notch people with some pretty 5hite opinions, in my own honest, 5hite opinion.

Amrabat seems like a decent bloke. Full of running but for me he just takes too long on the ball. As others have said he slows down play.

I wouldnt fault his enthusiasm for the game. I think we can do better but I also think with better coaching Amrabat could improve.

  3. My thinking is close to this, though I'd have to say that if he was slowing up play in the first half of the season, it probably wasn't enough, because Troy and Ighalo still didn't manage to get into viable positions.

I was very frustrated with Bats at the end of the season because in my view he just wasn't the same player, and it seemed to be a conscious decision, presumably to fit in with Walter's plans or because he was still carrying an injury.

But yep. I'm not saying he'll set the world alight next year, but I think he easily did enough to justify being given a chance. IMHO, if he does get back into that form, we are sorted for a winger.

  4. Not highlights. It's every touch he made of the ball. This was far from his best game. If you don't rate him fair enough. Your opinion can be judged on its own merits.

If he'd had a game like this for Spuds we'd be talking 25 million

In a game we lost 6-1!

Doubt too many others had good game

  6. Which is the whole point of the argument that he was getting the blame for others being poop.

He's not a bad footballer, and has always been "busy" whenever I've seen him play. As a winger though, he hasn't been all that productive. It seems that the club and him just aren't a good fit for each other. A good move for all concerned I think.

Can we stop using Whoscored ratings as a judgement on how good a player is please? Benteke rated higher than Alli, Kante, Gueye, David Silva etc etc this season, they're pretty much useless. Yes, Amrabat rated higher than Pereyra, but Amrabat was rated at 6.64 whilst Pereyra was rated at 6.62. That difference in itself is negligible. When you add in the fact that Pereyra only started 12 games compared to Amrabats 25 it makes the rating even more null. It's no way to compare players.

Whoscored is a good way to compare similar players in similar positions but it definitely favours the attacking players.
Defensive players who have a good/great season often end up around 6.5 to 7.5 max but a striker who has an average season will end up around the same.

Well I would take time out to seriously think about my former actions.

  22. This, exactly.

Not this. They are not useless. People are just using them as is they are a measure of how good a player is, rather than a measure of how effective they were in a particular game, and then, extrapolated into how effective they were in individual games averaged over the season.

Exactly. And it is not meant to be.

But on a personal note. I think Amrabat was far, far more influential for Watford in the first half of the season than Pereyra was. Pereyra had a couple of decent games and failed to do anything more than average in the majority he played in, even if he did do it with a certain style. And, sorry if it makes anyone blow steam out their ears, but I don't think he was any more influencial in the majority of games than Gueds was (there were a couple of notable exception), even if his play demonstrated greater qualities.

And the best bit is, the data in WhoScored gives credence to my opinion.

But please don't think I'm saying that WhoScored's figures prove that one player is actually better than another, because they don't. Pereyra is clearly the superior player in terms of technical ability and style, but if his achievements are average, he's gonna get an average score, as will Holebas, Amrabat and Gueds.

Let's all just use YouTube from now on to decide whether a player is amazing and effective. Much easier too decide that way and you get to listen to some amazing music by some amazing DJ's who spin decks amazingly.

But Pereyra scored and created more so your point is kinda flawed? :/

  25. No. My point is sound, if you understand what it is. Reids and, in other threads, Jumbo, Steve Leo and Undies prove it, because they say that WhoScored is useless for comparing how good one player is against another. I agree. I even say it in the post you are quoting. But rather than then making the obvious conclusion, that WhoScored is not made as a measure for such comparisons, they then completely miss the point of WhoScored, and criticise its methodology on the grounds that they think it is intended to be used to compare players ability. It's a bit like saying an Airebus A380 is useless for driving to work, and then crticising an Airbus A380 because it was useless when you tried to drive to work in it, when it was never intended to do any such thing.

My opinion about Pereyra, Gueds, Amrabat and Holebas may be flawed though, just like anyone else's, but they have absolutely nothing to do with WhoScored, other than the fact that its WhoScored rating seem to bare me out about how effective each player was in the games they played (not how good they were as a player).

I find this whole situation highly odd. He was one of our better players by some distance before his injury, works extremely hard, has a lot of strength and talent and would have been responsible for a lot more assists last season had we strikers who could finish.

Absolutely don't want him to leave.

Amrabat is a decent squad player, but nothing more - he flatters to deceive. He puts in a shift there's no doubting that, but at the level we supposedly want to be at, he is just not good enough. I would let him go

If Amrabat was 20-23 id see more logic behind placing faith in him. Unfortunately he's 30 and still has a very 1 dimensional way of playing, lacks end product and slows down any move where a dash down the wing is not available. To me this suggests he isn't suddenly going to improve. As a squad player he can offer work rate and an outlet, but I still don't see him as anything more than this. Think we can do better and would sell if an offer came in.

Although I can't see it happening, if he stays I'd also be happy for him to prove me wrong.
