Hope it's the same quality due diligence that didn't notice that we'd signed two obese players last season.

How much Leventhal knows is open to debate. But this paragraph on Diego Martinez is thoroughly depressing:

‘He is known to have strong views on how he wants to work and manage the team, which may not be in keeping with an owner who maintains an inquisitive eye from his training-ground office. Common ground could be found, but at this stage it looks more likely bothparties will look elsewhere.’

Essentially saying Gino has no interest in changing his ways.

Which is somewhat in conflict with trying to entice a manager from another club - why would they give up control elsewhere for a sidelined role here?

Just read the whole article, clear that Leventhal doesn't have a clue and is just regurgitating the names he's seen on here/Twitter. He's as much in the dark as the rest of us, only difference is he has to make his living pretending he has some insight.

Well if he gets the sack a career awaits him as either a tennis coach or Matt Hancock.

Anorthosis Famagusta manager Temur Ketsbaia is a candidate to be the next Watford manager. He was suggested to the club as an option by the same scouts who spotted Xisco Munoz's potential.

54 - bit of a spring chicken compared to previous ones. Xisco was a very unknown quality and got us promoted first time of asking. But, Xisco had one of the best sides in the league and worked out a formation and style that worked. I don't think we will go up straight away, so it needs to be a manager with at least two year plan. Can we not hire a sports Psychologist?

I wonder what song will be used this year? Sweet Caroline was a good'un.

Maybe Leventhal has heard something but Martinez clearly liked what he saw at the training ground last year and has waxed lyrical about the Pozzos.

Some managers prefer to be in control of every facet of the club whereas others prefer to stick to coaching and view recruitment as a distraction. But even among the former group, it’s a more prestigious job with the prospect of PL football down the line and likely a significant pay rise.

If you’re, say, Neil Critchley would you prefer 100% control as you lead your side to successive mid table finishes, or less control and the prospect of being a PL managed a year from now? Maybe he’d prefer the former but you can understand why he’d go with the latter.

For me the main news is that we’re monitoring Martin at Swansea (a good manager but not the right fit for us in a number of ways in my opinion) and that we’re willing to pay compo. Alan Nixon said this the other day so this corroborates that.

Maybe he will get us promoted like Munoz did ?

    Ex Newcastle striker isn’t he.

Best known for this angry goal celebration.

He seems a bit of a nutcase who often gets the boot after a few months from falling out with the owners. He's also only ever managed in no-mark leagues. Seems ready-made for us then.

He's been a highly regarded coach and started off well at Ipswich, but they're currently in a terrible run of form.

If we’re going to pay compo for an up and coming EFL coach, why would it be him? Just seems a bit odd @Cthulhu

Managed to get the boot from Olimpiacos with a record of P6, W5, D1, F9, A0!

In fairness, my preferences for type of coach are:

    1. Younger, tactically flexible, up and coming coach
    2. Random foreign nutcase who will either be brilliant or an utter car crash, possibly both
    3. Happy but tactically inept motivator type
    4. Dull, negative older coach like Hodgson

Unfortunately we only shop in categories 2, 3 and 4...

I’m hearing part of the reason they appointed Ivic is because he always had a Smiths playlist on in the background.
‘This Charming Man’ swung it for him, apparently.

Ah the famous Pozzbury due diligence, which has delivered key highlights such as the Janmaat contract extension, Rose and Tufan deals, and many millions into the pocket of Mogi for practically no on-field return.

Now I know due diligence has begun, I’m reassured and confident that everything will be okay.

Further reassured that Pozzbury may not consider Martinez, who is clearly the most seasoned and successful candidate mentioned, because they aren’t willing to consider relinquishing the control that has been working so phucking well.

    Jesus Christ.

Dyche is out of work... Bring him back! Although he'll be sacked within 3 months because his football is good enough for the owners. I wish they would change how they operate!

  26. SkylaRose

At a PL level, Dyche's style is now obsolete. Burnley were easy to beat and breakdown, something that as not true in seasons past. If he wants to manage at the highest level he needs to change how he coaches and sets out a plan B and C. Championship is about his level at the moment, but we need a coach who will want no time to gel, gets tea and coffee and the Owners and does what he' told. That isn't Dyche.

Yeah totally agree! I would like to have a look at a young manager (someone like Eddie Howe) Maybe Carlos Corberán if he doesn't go up with Huddersfield, he would be a good fit.

However, with the state of us right now and how the owners hire and fire, not sure if many will want to take the job.

He’s a good manager and will manage one day in the PL but wouldn’t have been a good fit in my opinion. We don’t have the players for his passing style and we (both our ownership and as a fan base) do not have the patience for him to have 6 months getting to grips with the job. Would much rather Neil Critchley or even Corberan.

Exactly he'd need about 6 new defenders and would have to be in the top 6 playing well by September to stand any chance o f staying beyond the winter break.
