His influence on the pitch diminished but his influence off the pitch didn't. I had a decent insight towards the latter end of the promotion season, and he was still very much the leader as well as being incredibly popular with all levels in the club. It was right that we moved on from him on the pitch but we certainly lack leadership.

I'd have quite liked Will Hughes to have taken on the role of being skipper on a long term basis, I think he would have been a good successor.

Xisco Munoz at Huesca anyone? Looks like he could do a job in the Championship.

I'll take your Hughes and counter it with another player who seemed to care and give his all.... Holebas. Our Yellow Carded Wonder.

He would be good for one season then binned off in the Summer if we got promoted. What we need going forward is a long term manager who can take us to the next level, and who the owners can give a little control to. Will it happen? Doubt it.

Surely the title should be 'Next season's managers'!! There are 3 temp jobs available at WFC next season:

    1) Pre season and autumn 'never seen the squad so hungry and unified'
    2) Winter of discontent 'time to detoxify and rebuild the dressing room'
    3) Spring cleaner 'with this squad we have every chance of getting promoted'

Duxbury has created a culture and mentality that has made the dressing room completely unmanageable. It doesnt matter who the manager is. Next season we will once again be relying on the players to get their $h1£ together independently of whichever hapless patsy is holding the 3 month temp job managing WFC has become

    Going by that:

Hughton - hate the guy but he is at least energetic
Pardew - time to slow it down guys... get into a loop of boring stale Burnley-esque football
BFS - final attempt at being "as good as he was at Bolton" - and getting us up. Also Gino get's his age bracket.

Sounds like the sort of left field inexperienced punt the Pozzos would take.

Taken a team relegated from the top division to 9th place? Sounds ideal for next season, I hadn’t expected anything better than 12th at the most.

I reckon there’s an agreement that Troy will be on our coaching staff next season whoever the coach/manager is.

It will be Fabio Pecchia - Italian, cheap, speaks Italian, works for low wages, knows the Emglish game after his spell working with Benitez, has managed promotion a couple of times, is cheap and speaks Italian.

Doubt it somehow unless he is going to retire or be a player coach.

His mind is fully focused on Birmingham now .

I think he’s ticked a box by playing for Birmingham and it’s not gone great. He’ll retire and will be here next season I reckon. Owners will want him back as it’s all gone to crap since he left, no desire and we’ve been without any sort of leadership or anyone it gives an F since he’s gone. Someone has got to try to and pull a squad back together.

Agree with all of that, TD ticked off his last remaining football wish but he's got 3 directions. Trundle along as is and drift away gracefully (lazily) where he is / stay there but move into a coaching role at some point / or come back to watford in some form of coaching role supporting next seasons new manager.
It would depend on a lot of things lining up but it wouldn't surprise me if he did come back in some role...

Shame he doesn’t tick the most important box for any manger, which is actually being a manager or there even being the slightest clue he might be a semi competent one, let alone a good one. At least Xisco had 8 games under his belt which was farcical enough.

Wasn't Deeney often a factor in badmouthing and undermining some of the managers and helping them get fired while he was here? It certainly seemed to be the case with Ivic at least.

If the Pozzos really do want to think more long-term with their managerial appointments then having Troy on the coaching staff would be a disaster in that regard.

I am trying to work out if it is worth reading this thread from time to time - has anyone at any time in the last decade correctly predicted the identity of the next Pozzo head coach in advance?
