I persevered with Goryprawns (along with WML), but came here in 2007.... BTW - when you browse other fans forums (as I am sure many of us have during the run in) we are very lucky to have this excellent facility - a big thank you to those who developed and maintain it.
Unbelievably, someone on the 5h1tshow that is the scum forum criticised this one for being too OCD....having sections and all...
I tried to read their forum ahead of our match with them and it made my head hurt - and that was before I’d managed to read anything.
I joined when the official forums were closed. Something to do with a rumour about Marlon King. I think this site had already been set up.
Ah, yes, I forgot about the official club forum closing...I think that and BWL shut down at approx same time...hence the general migration here. Can’t believe it’s 15 years....
I first started browsing this forum around 06/07 after simply googling ‘Watford forum’. To this day I have never learned the address or bookmarked it, I still google ‘Watford forum’ to reach this page on an almost daily basis.
I went on it a while ago but couldn’t quite believe some of the personal vitriol. You can’t argue with entrenched mindsets, especially when their ‘reality’ is so obviously wrong It’s too emotionally energy sapping. I just avoid it. It’s bad enough arguing about the merits or otherwise of Andre Gray, and politics is far more important. I use this forum for relaxation and the points of view is my form of escapism that is WFC, an illogical passion close to my heart. Entering the politics section is a sure way to extreme high blood pressure and an increased risk of a heart attack or stroke. Which is a reason why I started this thread. Some people with whom we have a common connection through WFC who we probably never meet suddenly stop posting. It would be sad if the reason was an illness, incapacity or worse, and no one would be the wiser. And if this was ever the case I’m sure forum members would all provide encouragement (which I’ve seen when people open up with personal issues on here), and which could make a difference. After all, we are a ‘family’ club, as Scott Duxbury alluded to when dragged onto Hive Live by (an inebriated)? Chris Stark. You ‘Orns
Can you keep a secret ? I found him. He disappeared about the same time I built my lovely new patio. Now Lloyd, tell me a little more about yourself...
Good call. I used to sporadically chat on PMs with PO about family stuff so did reach out to him when he first went “off radar” but never heard anything back from him. Hope he’s OK. Likewise re Cleyhorn.
Well thanks for missing me As nornironhorn mentioned he did kindly inquire about my absence from the board a while back.. and actually i was thinking about making a return when i was taken ill just a short while after (so you werent far off there) Have had some heart issues so decided to delay it until i was feeling better. I'm not really.. but here i am anyway! Truth is i did just get fed up with the negatively and in the infighting among our own supporters. I understand individuals will have fallings out. I know i have, with several members, but usually those matters are resumed fairly quick or at least give you an excuse to let off some steam. Worse for me is when certain members are constantly negative to others.. like stuck records. I know some of it is, what do you youngsters call it.. trolling.. but it wears me down anyway. I also know i should just put those people on ignore.. but then i feel there's quite a few of them. Lastly i do have something of an addictive/obsessive personality and feel the need to step away from things sometimes. ohh gawd now ive had a 'hit' and i will be thinking about nothing else from now on!! Anyway.. the Horns are up! the pitch is looking incredible! and i might start making a few posts again.
I discovered the forum a lot later than I did GloryHorns, but have never looked back. Lurked a bit on here to start with, until discovering poor quality puns are actively welcomed. It's home now.
When BWL died off some people went to Gloyhorns and others to "The Dark Side". I registered on both but I never posted on Gloryhorns, and the Dark Side was a shadow of BWL and didn't have any momentum and slowly withered away, I didn't post much on there anyway. I was never on the official forum. I first came across this place when the takeover was going on, after that I lurked for a couple of years then I joined in 2014.
I joined in 2014 as BWL and the Dark Side had died. I miss top notch posters from those days and am glad to see the few stragglers who hang on. When I first came, I'd imagined it as another Gurny Whores filled with over-earnest, train spotter type, suggested lineups and super intense discussions about the merits of shirt manufacturers etc. I was absolutely right. But fortunately there are other areas and it's not ALL football. I don't mind a bit of football talk, but only so far. I do enjoy the general threads, the politics thread (please be tolerant of it - we're not disturbing anybody), I admit I also enjoy baiting (trolling?) opposition fans. The forementioned ex-BWLers will confirm that was one of the main purposes of the board. Flying Chairs, Pink Lions, Watford Al, Joss Stone Fan Board, Yankee Invasion and counter-invasion (from a site called thetrolls.com who really fancied themselves as roughhousers but turned out to have very thin skin) and so on. Proper wild west dialup Internet days, before all the softies started joining up.
Yes, the attempts of the USA invader trolls were hilarious. The self-combustion of those would-be internet warriors as they got counter-trolled to utter confusion was marvellous.
Cleyhorn shouldn't be too hard to find out about as he is well known by many at the club. He could be seen at matches with KELSO on the back of his shirt.
Planetrugby invading mumsnet was one of the most amusing led by a supreme WUM. I cannot unfortunately remember what it was all about now but it was entirely harmless. Alleged mums discussing benchpresses, nutrition regimes, injuries and associated matters and the best matches they had been at I think.
Please do stevo. You have been missed especially in the archives but glad to see the Youtube channel is still going strong. I as with everyone else hope your health issues resolve themselves soon as well. Take care.
Although I registered in 2015, I’ve known about this site since early 2007. Before that I was posting on Glory Horns (never the official board, it seemed mostly populated by semi-literate kids without anything interesting or insightful to say, BWL had completely lost its appeal after they for some reason insisted on not talking about football, and the Watford ML I closed my account after getting too many emails a day and not wanting to reveal my email address to hundreds if not thousands of strangers). It was UEA_Hornet (who sporadically posted on there) who recommended I move to this site as there was too much nastiness there. I stopped posting in 2008 though, and became a lurker for the next seven years and noticed how the site changed as dedicated matchday threads were put up (previously there was just a post-match thread if anyone could be bothered, often started by a young nak108 with player ratings). I finally came back with a different username as I didn’t like the old one and besides the email account I used to register was no longer active and I couldn’t remember the password. Fitting that so many of the members from that era still post at least fairly regularly, whereas Glory Horns has long since bitten the dust, it shows the great job hornmeister and admin (where is he/she now?) have done.
Ahh yes PhillipineOrn, good dude. Was worried when I heard about tornados and the like over there, hope he's ok.
Well it’s good to see you back Stevo. It’s been a while. And I hope the health issues are manageable and all is OK. Now, while you’re here, what do you recommend with our award winning pitch in the summer to keep it in award winning tip-top condition for next season? Will it be plugged or seeded and what grass species and fertiliser and watering and cutting regime would you recommend? What are the options and do you have any contact with the groundsmen who the Cisco Kid thanked after the Millwall game (that was a touch of class imo). We need answers and we need them now!
Enquired and Cleyhorn is still about. Last seen on FB 15th April and also spotted bird watching in Ricky!!
My advice would be to just keep doing what they've been doing That was a nice touch. Don't think I've ever seen that before.. not so publicly. PS thanks for the messages folks! Much appreciated.
