I have seen his first interview with the club and have to say I was hugely impressed with this educated and articulate young man. A very likeable character who has drive and ambitions, but also a lot of humility.

I think he will do very well at Watford and will quickly become a big favourite with the fans.....so I expect his Twitter account will quickly grow to around 1,014,000.

The Mexican national coach Miguel Herrera is very unhappy about him coming to us. He says he doesn't like the decision at all. He says that he doesn't see why Layun should have to 'suffer breaking rocks in the 2nd division' and that if he signed for Granada in La Liga, then he should play for them.

Says he won't necessarily be dropped from the national team though. "If I call him and I see that he is up to his usual level, then he'll carry on being key to the team"..

I was excited about this until everyone has gone crazy for him.

He will inevitably be awful and we'll sign a 36 year old for Burkina Faso with no experience outside Africa who will become our best player, thats the way it works

Not overly surprising comments to be fair and I could see his point but maybe playing in The Championship will help him become a better player. Who knows if he will be a success or not but shows a statement of intent by the owners. With Dyer and McGugan pretty much gone and Bassong and The Palace lad back with their employers I'm fairly sure there are others on the way

Could work to our favour. As well as the million or so Mexican fans we could pick up a few extra dozen Russian ones as well.

On a serious note, just how good do people expect him to be? I'm sure he'll be a good addition, but I think far too much jism has been expended to ever be justified.

He'll have an average debut after which people will be on here saying that he's no better than Pudil and Paredes.

Was a starter for Mexico's version of Man United and Mexico are rated higher than England.

Not that I could single him out but Mexico were excellent in the WC ... and I mean excellent so I snuck a fiver on them to reach the final. A very second best Holland knocking them out was a real travesty with Robben hardly getting a look in - Guess who apparently was marking him?

Well, Im mexican, and now Watford its in our radar, every game with Miguel and the Hornets. The only thing I am sure its that he will die in the pitch for his team

I hope so. We need players that care.

Even if he's as good as we hope, I wonder how much influence he could have from wing back.

Honestly, I secretly hope he scores ten goals, assists as many, terrifies opponents whilst nullifying their attackers and makes our season, I'm just trying to temper my expectations, as we've had big reputations fail at Watford recently. Maybe not as big as this, but still, I just want to see what he can do for us before I grasp myself in excitement.

He's a wingback that can play anywhere across the midfield and defence. That in itself opens so many in game opportunities to switch tactics. However, like anyone coming here for the first time it is unlikely to be instant so a little patience might be needed. He's gone from zero to hero in his own country and could do it again here if he has to.

I can't think of a more highly rated player signing for Watford in the past which can only be a good thing

Don't worry, they regularly produce the odd world class player so it's difficult to imagine the standard is anything but very high. Layun was a key member of last season's champions and has a million followers on twitter, he's not going to be poor.

Don't fall into the media trap of comparing their leagues gate receipts to ours and assuming the Championship must be better ... it's not.

Suffice it to say he is joining us from a massive club.
