If this guy can make a match winning contribution in a couple of games and we stay up and then he's sh*t the rest of the time it will be worth the cash

 

Not sure why there's so much negativity with this signing. He's an exciting player. It seems that consistency is a problem with him, but if he produces "moments of magic" then he'll turn out to be a shrewd signing.

Adam Leventhal has said on twitter that Zarate is to replace Pereyra and that if Ighalo is sold another player would be brought in to replace him.

 

Weirdly enough, you're not wrong! Say he scores 2 winners and does feck all else, it'd be money well spent.

No but let's hope he is a quicker healer than Isaac who may benefit from the Subbuteo method. My brother mended the figures with huge dollops of areldite up to their necks and put them on the boiler overnight to set.

I believe Pereyra will not be included in the new 25 man squad so bringing in Zarate for the rest of the season as a temporary replacement and only having to pay £2.5M to do so seems like a shrewd move to me. He can play anywhere along the front three and is good in dead ball situations so to me he seems like a needed addition for us.
If we can offload Ighalo for a decent amount, £17M and bring another, maybe Hogan, £15M, who is younger and British then I reckon we will have done well this window.
The friends I have that support West Ham have said to me he never really got a chance when he was there but still managed to score a few goals when he did play. His bad attitude only really appeared when he was in and out the team so much then offloaded on loan! So I hope that if he is given a run in our team he grabs his chance and becomes a quality cheap signing! COYH

I don't think we can say that this is penny pinching. Maybe the Pozzos are quite willing to spend 12m to bring someone of quality in but they might be finding it hard to attract anyone given our current form. when Pereyra joined it was no doubt with the possibility of an improvement on last season and a Top ten push . If he was currently at juventus do you think he would join us in our current position?

 

It does sound like it's going to be a loan with a buy option. Could it be that the £2.5M is actually a loan fee & we need to stump up more at the end of the season if we keep him?

That will certainly be the tell but again, that's just speculation as it stands.

 

I honestly don't see how anything can go wrong with buying a player from Fiorentina in the January transfer window.

 

To me it makes sense to leave him out of the new squad and make sure that he recovers properly, he has had a knee injury whilst at Juve in the past, not sure if its the same knee or not though. He can then get a whole pre season under his belt and come back fresh next season.
Getting Zarate in is cheap replacement who can come straight into the team and will take his foreign spot in the squad.
Also if we sell Ighalo then that will free up another foreign spot which I hope will be used to include Dja Djedje!
Then get Scott Hogan to fill the last home grown spot.
Just what I'm thinking though and like you say speculation as nothing has been confirmed and as we still have a couple of weeks till we need to submit our new 25 man squad I guess we won't know till then.

 

In what way is Zarate, effectively a striker, a replacement for Pereyra, a central midfielder?

 

If anything he's a Pozzo shaped improvement on Pereyra:

- Sh1tter
- Older
- More desperate
- Will be played far more out of position.

True, however Pereyra is quite injured now too. I'll accept more frequently injured. Noted.

 

Because he's a second striker, a creator. Don't look at it by what position they play.

 

If he is being bought to cover Pererya it seems sensible that it's a cheaper option, as I would assume once Pererya is fit he could end up a fringe player
