    I was thinking when sky showed a replay on Friday that if Cathcart or Hobang had any pace whatsoever it would have been even less of an argument for a red card, and it was rather risky playing a high line 30 seconds in against a pacy striker.

    there comes a point where you have to nail the colours to the mast and dig deep to secure promotion.

    I know its not the 'pozzo model' to shell out for transfer fees, but we've got 18 games left and are still weak in defence and inconsistent in midfield.

    There's calculated risk to be made against investing in new talent (and i mean proper talent, not hoovering up Granada & Udinese scraps) against the porridge pot that is the PL.

    We can knock 'em in at the far end all day long, we need to shore up the defence, that will cost £££...invest now and it will be worth it come May. To keep bungling through on the Pozzo model may say something about their commitment to Watford, or confirm that its hobby-football and a useful tax-loophole??

    I'd love to see Mariappa back I'm fairly young and is by far my favourite watford defender since I've been following them. Just a thought if it did happen no doubt he would play at center half but IF we do go four at the back at times in games he is a much more solid full back than Paredes would be

    It stops us strengthening in other areas if we pay larger fees/wages for individuals

    It also has implications for squad harmony. I would imagine most of the squad have no issues with Deeney being on big bucks, but if other players start arriving on similar deals, it will cause problems

    I think the owners probably feel that if Bassongs experience and talent help us go up , its money well spent

    I cannot see a Leicester or Palace reserve giving us the strength Bassong does
