Rumoured this morning that Adrian Marriapa could be on his way back to Watford. Hadn't thought of this move but thinking something could be possible as he is not getting much playing time and would fit a number of our requirements and of course knows Watford very well. Could be a very good option.
Mariappa's cousin (very drunkedly) came up to me on the train on the way back from the Chelsea game and started randomly talking to me. He made me send a snapchat to him saying come back Marriappa. Therefore i'm taking full credit if he comes back.
If it means bringing Mariappa and Guedioura to the club, I would happily give Palace first refusal on Deeney in the event we don't go up. Would be good business I reckon.
Mariappa and Guediora would be flipping fantastic business by this club. Would take both of them back in a heartbeat. Both homegrown as well so would count towards the quota.
Mariappa is quick but is he strong and dominant enough? A good player on his day but for me not quite the player we need.
Have to agree, not the strong dominant CB we are really looking for. Perhaps what were after is just not available at present.
Mariappa is strong with a brilliant leap on him. He, Angella and Cathcart are all good ages now with plenty of experience and should be a very decent back three. That's if we even get Mariappa.
This would be a fantastic signing. He is exactly the type of player we need. Has loads of pace, experience and has played in the Premier league now for over 2 seasons. He's a real Watford boy at heart and a top bloke too.
Thought he was doing pretty well at Palace? Can't see us signing him. Always thought it was a shame he left in the first place. The Pozzos had just arrived but it wasn't enough to keep Adrian.
I would take Mariappa back. Was top quality in his last season for us. Still wins alot in the air for his size. I would love this to happen.
What do we need then if it isn't a defender who is strong, quick, good in air, good reader of game and home grown?
This^. We need more than anything a mobile centre half who wind enough balls in the air. One thing you need in your centre half when playing three at the back is mobility and he has plenty of that.
Palace fans reckon they'll be very light on cover. Can't see it happening unless they've got a defender lined up tomorrow.
This. The Pozzo Model is to sell valuable academy products, not buy them back (which is unfortunate as it would be good to have Mariappa back).
People saying he's not what we're looking for, what? He was class when he last played for us and has since spent 3 seasons in the Premier League. He's better than what we have and that's what we're looking for!
Anything to replace Hoban, ever since Charlton away he's played like a big girls blouse Needs to man up and stick it about
Unhappy Bunny what are your thoughts then? I said I'd love him back and you disliked, someone said he's not what we need and you disliked?
Mariappa is techinically very good at this level. As a replacement for Hoban - yes. He is not however a dominant brute of a centre half. For that pressing need, we need a DeMerit or Mackay type not a Mariappa type. Angella, Mariappa and a hard nasty bugger would be the ideal.
Sorry, I must have overdone the disliking. He's mobile and athletic, but I don't think he's a particularly good footballer. Like Meldrew says, he's not the dominant brute we need. OMG, I'm agreeing with Meldrew.
Maybe I'm alone with this, but I'm not convinced we need a nasty, dominant brute of a defender. What we need is defensive organisation. That can be achieved with ball playing, mobile defenders just as with strong, one dimensional defenders. If you're all looking for a wonder player who will win everything in the air and remove any risk of us conceding at set pieces, then I think you'l be disappointed.
You're not alone, sensible comment! Palace fans suggesting he might come here as a makeweight for Deeney. Who are they kidding?
