I think we'll still get a new defender, but the Pozzos aren't willing to splash. He'll be a cheap punt.
What could've been. And yet as ever with Pozzo and Duxbury, the idea of properly investing in a CB was all a dream. Would love to know if we were only ever linked as a negotiating tool, if we were in for him but not willing to pay, or if the player chose Southampton over Watford.

Wouldn't be the first time they've confused Watford with Southampton. Boufal, Lemina, Gabbiadini... Generally means they are a dud, though.

Having just bought the Tufan the Turkish CMF guy, I wonder is Kucka might be used as a CB? I am sure I read on his career details that he has played as a centre half as well as a CMF player and has even played up front during his career. Just a thought?
Yeah, **** it let’s play people out of position. It’s only Kane, Cavani and Lukaku after all. In fact I’m sure I read somewhere that Deeney captained his Under 8 squad playing as CB and that he once had a poster of Michael Duberry on his wall. That’ll do for me

Not according to the stats I’ve looked at for the last 6 years. I’ve seen CM, DM, AM and even the odd LW and CF positions he’s covered. I’ll admit that in one game in 2017 against Sampdoria he played RB though
I guess we could play a quality midfielder out of position, a position we’re already light in if certain players leave, or in some sort of crazy, maverick, crackpot scheme of an idea Gino could just buy an actual defender.

Could do worse than Maksimovic or Nkoulou. I remember a couple of ITKs reported that we were in for Jonathan Panzo at relegated Dijon but he’s injured. Wouldn’t be surprised if we go back in for him at the end of the window.
Saints had the Vestergard money, so as frustrating as it is if they wanted him enough we’d never have had a chance.
Aside from possibly Norwich and Brentford we are always going to struggle to sign players that other PL clubs are genuinely interested in
Romano mentioned Betis and Celta Vigo as being interested but not us. That combined with how assertive Leventhal was (by his standards) about him not joining make it unlikely we were ever in imo.
Surprised nothing seems to have come of Kean Bryan, we were supposedly interested a few months ago, he didn't do too badly in the Prem last season, and I'm not sure we'd even have to pay tribunal money for him
I'm sure we will get a defender in. More than happy with the four we do have, but could do with a fifth when the inevitable injuries occur - preferably of the ability level to be third-choice. Pollock needs a loan. Lyanco's highlights seem to be kamikaze skills from centre-half. Would it work in the PL?
Don't know enough to know if I should be upset or not but Pozzo and Brazilian defender hasn't equalled success here before (thinking of Neuton)
