It's probably the only thing I agree with Trump on. ******* losers everyone of them, attacking probably young diverse groups of people out having a good time.

Trying to get info from twitter is a depressing experience. It's a buzz with right wing Americans like David Duke of the KKK blaming 'liberals', idiots saying they once went to London Bridge and therefore feel personally connected and then this,

Standing strong with everyone at London Bridge, Borough Market and Vauxhall. Our thoughts are with you. Duran Duran.

It's beyond ridiculous now... It's happening every day across the globe and it's being treated as if we should all be surprised. Not long ago we had the Manchester bombings with the very cliche words of "stand together and we will win". Whats happened since? Oh yeah... The same thing but worse. 3 organised attacks in 1 single night. Absolutely horrific and it's sooo damn obvious that it WILL happen again.

Let's just hope it can't get worse than it already is. I mean it wont be long until a school is invaded by gunmen etc. because it's clear that these so called "freedom fighters" prefer to target kids as shown in Manchester.

What annoys me the most however is the fact that they always claim that these men were being watched. Were they??? Then why didn't the police do anything?!! Are they that sensitive about being labelled racists?

I've been far away from London all day today on a walk from Seaford to Eastbourne. I heard the news just as I was getting home and have been digesting it for a few hours so here goes. It's easy for us to be scared and to think we shouldn't go out in central London but I'm not afraid. Being afraid means they have won. I'm proud of this City and I'm not changing my way of life. So I'm still going to have my spontaneous trips and nights out in to the city and the next time I do, before my first drink I will raise a toast to all those affected by the events tonight. Finally, wherever you are in the World, stay safe and treat each day like it could be your last.

AH, I agree with your basic sentiments but I can't help wonder what the logical conclusion of these sustained attacks is going to be.

I acknowledge that over reaction from governments is, we are told, what the terrorists want as it supposedly aids radicalisation and recruitment. I also clearly understand what we consider our western democratic values are perceived by them as a weakness which they are happy to continue to exploit.

Put together, it suggests that attacks like these are likely to not only continue but increase. I can't think of a bigger carte Blanche you could give the terrorists. Intelligence it is suggested by some prevents many more attacks that we would never hear about. Possibly that is true but does little to make us feel better about the attacks which are a success.

These people can't be negotiated with, there is no possibility of a Good Friday Agreement here. The Islamification of the world is all they would bring to the table. While these attacks are in their relative infancy, it's easier to be somewhat rational about it all but continued into the next generation an Arab/Israeli situation is entirely conceivable whereby opposing groups are born to hate each other and view any killing of the other lot as justified on no other basis other than that.

Is the near future of Britain another Lebanon or Gaza? Are non Islamic Europeans likely to be counter radicalised and wage their own war of terror on Islamic targets. Essentially, how is this going to go away rather than get to all out war with the west and Islam both prepared to defend their values above all else?

Seems I was right. 3 attackers, armed with knives and fake bomb vests, shot dead by the police within 8 minutes of the incident beginning. Absolutely sterling work and lives undoubtedly saved as a result. Unfortunately that's a resppnse capability only likely to be possible in London and eventually these cowards will figure that out. A similar attack in a more provincial setting could have seen a lot more killed potentially.

    Again very sad.

These people in some cases seem to be one step ahead of the authorities who do work hard to try and combat the terrorists.

In fairness various senior politicians in government have more important things to deal with this morning. And it's Sunday anyway so I doubt it would have been full tilt. I'd be inclined to agree with you if they don't resume tomorrow though.

In fairness it's the correct thing to do and it certainly isn't letting them win just looking at things on a level of importance.

I agree with a lot of this but the problem is, they have a list of people to watch which seems to be getting longer and they have to prioritise the ones they feel are the most dangerous. The other issue they have with the two attacks in London is that the choice of weapon was a van and a knife. How do you stop people having those?
The biggest problem however is that terrorists will probably always be around whether it's IS or the IRA or another group of people who feel the best way of getting their points accross is by killing innocent people who have nothing to do with their battles. Trump is right, they are losers

Shooting the culprits although necessary to stop any further casualties is actually what the attackers want, they value life so cheaply even their own, it's a shame they aren't brought to justice and made to suffer every day for the rest of their lives like the families of the loved ones they have so barbarically killed will be doing!

    These people aren't Muslims. they're just wa***rs.

My 15yo daughter spent all day Wednesday in London with her friend. They went to tourist spots, did some shopping in Oxford Street and came home exhausted. She can do the same today if she wants. Nothing changes.

I am not even sure if the Theology was changed making martyrdom a sin, that it would stop these sort of people. They are after political change. They want to impose their beliefs on all of society. Every day citizens in Muslim countries are the victims of acts perpetrated by evil zealots who want to terrorise them into submission. Like the recent car bombing in Karboul. I expect we will have to become a more controlled society. For example, it is now accepted at airports that those temporary controls on liquids are the norm. At public gatherings there will no doubt be greater security. The "children" who bring in flares to football matches have surely alerted the authorities and terrorist planners to gaps in checks at mass attendance events. How can you safeguard people from the sort of attacks where a vehicle is used as a weapon, where men are motivated by hate to stab a stranger? The transference of the suicide attack to Europe is almost imposdible for the police and security forces to control. Wearing fake suicide bomb vests is an invitation to be shot and "martyred"by the police. The police response, isolating and despatching the threat in 8 minutes in a crowded and chaotic part of the capital was remarkable. Theresa May and politicians generally should reflect on the benefit of cutting police numbers by 20,000. Perhaps increasing taxes to reduce the deficit rather than cutting the services that safeguard our tolerant community would be a better option. Ultimately you need to stop the perpetrators wanting to do this, which means simple things like controlling the teaching of the theology. The fact that Mosques circulate anti Semitic propaganda like the Protocals of the Elders of Zion as if it was fact is an example of how at an early age people can pick up inaccurate beliefs about other communities. In my mid fifties, the Middle East has been in a mess all my life, from the wars with Israel, wars between Sunni and Shia, hijacking and bombings and terrorist attacks like the ones since 2005 and the previous attacks like the 1988 Lockerbie bombing that killed 300. We need to all do our bit to counteract this, even if it means more restrictions on our actions, and paying more tax. Let's hope our leaders and security forces can evolve counter tactics quicker than the perpetrators can innovate new ways to demonstrate their inhumanity.

The police and security forces are in a no win situation. If they jump in too early they will get labelled as being vindictive. If they don't they get charged and then go on to commit a heinous crime they will also get it in the neck for not having acted. Remember they have to go by judicial process. They cannot just pick up people and lock them up or as the French secret service used to do dispose of these individuals in a covert manner.

What is unfortunate is that the UK has a reputation for having harboured terrorists for years. I still find it amusing in a sense that those individuals that did end up in Guantanamo still have no convincing explanation of their presence in Afghanistan aside from the excuses of charity work, holidaying there when caught after a firefight and denying they have no links to terrorism. This despite having had contact with numerous proven terrorists. And worst of all being allowed to return to the UK and gain compensation from the taxpayer.

We live in one of if not the most secure countries in the world, if to make it even more secure it needed an extra penny on income tax then it's really a no-brainer, we can't have police cuts and expect the police to attend within a matter of minutes (which they have for our recent three terorists events), as have been mentioned the events have been in highly populated (large police available) areas. Should a similar event happen in provincial areas then the responses would be slower which could result in more innocent people harmed!

i'm increasingly toying with the idea that comparisons to columbine are more accurate than the ira. a bunch of unadjusted dangerous young men looking to channel their anger and urges in any direction that gets them a little fame. unfortunately the usa has learnt to live with school shootings and i fear we must to get used to street stabbings.
