Bit underwhelmed by this signing to be fair. Just hope we can get in Santon instead but probably won't happen.
My Greek buddy says he's strong and was a rising star for many years. Never quite reached the potential people thought but would be a great premier league fit and won't cost too much.
I remember him from the World Cup where he seemed impressive and he looks decent going forward. That's all I know but I'm pretty excited by this signing.
31 year old Greek journeyman left back who only played 20 odd games last season and has two different full names that are wildly different probably for some dodgy dealings. Highest level he's played at is Roma and he can't obviously cut it as they are getting rid. Gee, I'm so excited. His middle name of 'Lloyd' doesn't save this from being a no from me.
Yes. No PL experience and knocking on a bit. Feel free to dig my comment up IF he signs and IF he plays well chief.
So we're about to (reportedly) sign the first choice highly experienced left back from Roma (who just finished 2nd in Serie A) and some people are not impressed. Jesus H Christ. I think some need reminding that when we went up under GT, we signed these defenders: Des Lyttle (Forest) Mark Williams (Chesterfield) Neil Cox (Bolton) Get a grip, people. How anyone could be underwhelmed by this signing is beyond me.
Cos some people are only impressed by people they're familiar with. I'm the opposite - I see the palmares, and am excited by the hope that it might be a spectacular signing, whereas others would rather a signing like a Connor Wickham, a Tyrone Mings, a Ross McCormack - those are the sort of players that make me go 'meh'.
Blimey, that really is rather impressive. And thats just the last season. Looks very good defensively and going forward too. Can see why he might be a fans favourite as he really gets stuck in.
Playing devils advocate, if he is first choice why are they selling him after one season for 2 million euros which is peanuts. Wouldn't they just get rid of Cole who is older and apparently second choice? People that have seen him week in and week out don't rate him that highly, but as WT rightly said they will have a lot higher expections than us.
I know next to nothing about the guy, but like every other player that plays for Watford I wish him all the best. Heres hoping hes like that other full back that came from Roma. He wasnt half bad!
So £8 million buys you Tyrone Mings. £1-2 million buys you a left-back who played 30+ games last season for a side who finished runners-up to Juve in Serie A, including Champions League and Europa. Oh and who has nearly 30 international caps, including playing 4 matches at last summer's World Cup, that's 1 more than any of the England team managed. I hope we do sign a few experienced British/Pl players in addition to the overseas recruits, but I'm mindful that last time we went up to the Prem, we did buy an experienced English left-back...he only played 15 times and was released in May. Any signing is a gamble of sorts. If we sign 8 new players this summer, chances are 4 or 5 will shine. For the price, and his experience, this guy seems worth a punt.
Great Pace Great Left Foot Positive running Skillful Good crosser Purposely hit the bar versus Udinese because he knew this move would happen. Loyal.
Compare apples to oranges why don't you. The Watford that went up under GT sixteen years ago has but one thing in common with the Watford just gone up...both called Watford.
Woe is me that my opinion differs from the great Arakel. Whilst I am still underwhelmed Malteser has given this a moment of clarity and for the alleged fee it is relatively low risk plus a bit of experience isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Very good signing if it actually ends up going through. Honestly don't understand how people can be turning their noses up at him.
Pretty impressive. Looks like he can put a cross in like Wilf Rostron, has the strength of Deeney, the no nonsense of Roger Joslyn and the directness of Tommy Mooney. Get him in.
Obvious thing to say, but the bottom line is the success of any incoming transfer will depend on how well the player adjusts. CVs are useful indicators, but not the be-all-and-end-all. We've yet, in my opinion, to see the best of Layun, Paredes etc, despite their impressive CVs. Riera underwhelmed, so did Park and Diakite. And two of the stars of last season were Cathcart and Ighalo..not many posters welcomed their signings with open arms here last summer! Holebas comes with a good CV and hopefully a great attitude and big heart, a willingness to learn and adapt to a new country and league, but ultimately none of us will know until he's come and played a few games.
