Excellent news! Time for an admin to change title thread with the always wonderful to read [CONFIRMED] tag.
I didn't want to post this link too early in fear the deal would not be done, but here's his story and it's an interesting read: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/jun/01/world-cup-2014-greece-jose-holebas
Interesting..his appearance record is quite decent isn't it? Maybe he misses just a handful of games each time..minor annoying niggles?
Transfermarkt says he's missed 3 games in his whole career due to injury. Don't know how accurate that is.
Dunno. I said he'd played all year for Roma but Greek mate seemed to think he might be damaged goods. He may be talking rubbish.
My Greek mate says he's too upset about the state of the Greek economy to talk about football right now
confirmed by wfc club twitter account. Watford FC @WatfordFC · 2 mins2 minutes ago CONFIRMED: Greece international defender Jose Holebas signs a 3-yr deal with #watfordfc after joining from Italy Serie A runners-up AS Roma.
Have to say i've not seen him play even once. Search Watford on Twitter atm though and there is a lot of 'How have Watford got him!?!?'
At the risk of sounding overly sycophantic, we are very lucky as a club to have the access that we do to the Pozzo scouting network, and more importantly their contacts in Italy. There is no way in the world that a club of our size could have got a player like Holebas, or even have had him on our radar. Not knocking the Mings deal to Bournemouth but this and the Holebas deal really highlight what a sh*t market England is to buy players for a fair price.
I'm pretty happy with business so far - for me the priority is in defence; so to see prodl and holebas already signed up, complemented by heurtaux and nyom as predicted, we have a fantastic new back 4 and nothing to really complain about in terms of transfer business. Am I overly optimistic?
A selection of comments from a Roma Forum: 'For me he should have stayed another year, he has sometimes disappointed but as a reserve is not bad. He plays with real grit.' 'As cole is so expensive, we had no choice but to sell Holebas. Thanks Cole!' 'This was an idiotic move on our behalf' 'Right to be sold, too much OOMPH! 'Im really upset. He was a badass, not a phenomenon but as a reserve he would have been very good. Now we have to hope that **** Cole terminates and then we can get in another left back.' 'We should have kept Holebas and ditched Cole' 'Thankyou to Holebas, he is a real man, and I respect him for that. They told him there were problems with Coles salary and had to sell him because of that!' 'Its going to be ok. Holebas should play in the premier league, not Italy. It is the perfect way for him, and don't forget he speaks English. Good luck Holebas.' 'Im crying Im so upset, I hate Cole!' 'I hope to understand this when they bring in a replacement, but right now this makes no sense!' A lot of nice comments there, they tend to not be too thrilled with the sale. They really don't like Ashley Cole, i've learned several new Italian curse words tonight.
Stu @FalseNlne · 5 mins5 minutes ago What is Jose Holebas doing? Roma to Watford, couldn't think of anything worse.
