As far as I know, from news and rumours, the Pozzo's are tough but honest in negotiations and dealings, like those old-style businessmen whose word is valid almost as their sign on a contract.
They value a lot having a good reputation for being serious people among agents, players and other teams.
That kind of reputation is worth much more for business, in the long term, than the money you can save from being tricky in a single deal.

Which is how it should be. I guess although the big clubs raid smaller clubs for talent they do it the honourable way of changing the rules to allow them to do it with impunity.

Exactly right & I can't see them wanting to damage that reputation for the sake of a couple of mill. Hopefully they can reach an agreement with Liverpool so it doesn't have to go to the tribunal which can be a bit of a lottery

I remember you posting a while back about the transfer of Brahimi from Granada to Porto and how it was orchestrated to reduce the amount paid to his previous club through the previously agreed sell-on fee. I believe it involved an agency linked to the Pozzo's aswell? Surely a transfer like that would damage their reputation if true, and how is that different to seeking to reduce the amount paid for Sinclair by signing him via Udinese/Granada?

That thing about Brahimi in fact surprised me as unusual.
Brahimi transfer to Porto, anyway, remains somewhat clouded in mistery.

Good stuff. We've got a solid base now, time to start bringing in the younger talent.

Not convinced he's an upgrade on Jakubiak so don't see the point.
Also I'm guessing one of the big selling points of moving from Liverpool to Watford is the extra game time he would presume to get, so not sure he'll react well to getting little or none.

Liverpool would have kept hold of him if they could but he wouldn't sign another contact. The Pozzos were clearly extremely keen to sign him. QSF has said he rates him very highly.

So I feel there's chance he might possibly be a slight upgrade on Jakubiak. I'm just guessing though.

Okay I haven't ever seen Sinclair live and have only seen him on TV a couple of times, but I've seen enough of Jakubiak to think he's worth a prominent role in a league one team. Sinclair couldn't get a game for a struggling Wigan last year and hasn't exactly torn up any trees so far in his career.

If the scouts reckon he's worth signing: fine. I don't pretend to know better than they do.

It was heavy sarcasm fella. The idea that we shouldn't sign one of the hottest attacking prospects in the country because ...Hey! We've already got Jakubiak!,... is just daft. (even if Jakubiak turns out to be decent)

It's a forum. Not a news article. We're here to share opinions and mine is that he won't cut the mustard. I do however acknowledge that my opinion is not the one that counts here.

So you're agreeing that you are guessing about two unproven youngsters?

It's not a guess, but I am not an expert and my opinion (particularly on Sinclair) is based on limited evidence. Is that a problem for you? Do you think only people with intimate knowledge of any given player like the scouts, or Duxberry, or Dowling should be allowed to share an opinion? Because I'll tell you now there would be very few comments if any on the site.

I just got an alert from an app here in the U.S. that we have agreed terms with him.

There could possibly, maybe, who knows, here's hoping - be a smidgen of a chance that he's a slight marginal upgrade on Berghuis.

    And he's ENGLISH - yea !

Really liking the look of the u21 side we're building for next season. Would like us to play 4-2-3-1 with Success, Penaranda and Sinclair behind Jakubiak. There'll be no excuses for Harry Kewell not to turn it around with these signings. Hopefully we can also keep Belkalem as one of our over 21 options.

Would we really sign both him and Ibe? Wouldn't one of the reasons for Sinclair wanting to leave Liverpool be that he's behind Ibe in the pecking order for one of the wide attacking spots in a 4-3-3?

  30. JH93

    JH93 Squad Player

He's behind a lot more than just Ibe at Liverpool at the moment, and that's before Klopp brings in more players this summer.

Didn't QSF want to play a 4-2-3-1 at the start of the season? As it is, we've Ighalo and Deeney for the striker role, and a few options for the central position (including Capoue in my opinion, who I think could prosper with less defensive responsibility), but few high quality options for the wide roles - even, as far as I'm aware, in the U21 team.

Signing Penaranda, Success, Ibe and Sinclair would give us a healthy amount of options for those positions, both next season and further on, though I appreciate it's unproven and inexperienced. At 19, I doubt Sinclair would expect to be starting regularly in the first team next season, so if we also signed someone with a bit more experience for one of the wide roles we could potentially have a very good attacking line-up with a few options in reserve. I suppose Amrabat could be that player?

The type of players we are linked with is what's encouraging me, not big names but the fast attacking wide players that have signed for next season (I hope) such as Success and Penaranda as well as potentially this player will see a more attractive style of play next campaign..

I'm quite happy to be negative this season in some games but think with the players that have been secured indicates a degree of ambition to evolve by the owners, Stoke have done it this season and I think we can emulate them with their style of play and the players muted to sign.

  33. Jellyman

    Jellyman Squad Player

In the owners defence, it isn't like we didn't try to sign very talented wide players like Perotti/Balde. The ambition was there, but as a newly promoted team we didn't have the pulling power or financial muscle. But it's reassuring that those players will gradually become easier to convince. We won't be fishing at Berghuis level forever.

Any plan which helps us to retain the services of Belkalem has my 100% support. He's crucial to our future IMO.
