I can't quite believe how nasty some Liverpool fans on Twitter are getting over a player leaving that most of them don't rate. Then again, I've not managed to work out how if they lose, it's because of the players Brendan Rogers signed - but if they win, it's because Klopp is a genius. Although from the little I've seen, Klopp seems massively over-rated. He doesn't appear to have much tactical nous, just relies on get fans and players 'up for it' I guess he's little more than an ugly cheerleader.
Coming in behind Deeney Iggy (or his replacement) Sucsess and one other. Still U21 so doesn't effect the 25 man squad, so get a free year to look at him and bring him through. Gone are the days when we are replying on 18, 19 and 20 year olds
Apparently he turned down the chance to sign for Bournemouth in the summer because he had no interest in moving there. I like him already.
Liverpool are hoping for 4 million plus from the Sinclair deal (because that is what Bournemouth offered and their bid was accepted) http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp..._4m_from_Hornets_for_Jerome_Sinclair/?ref=rss
Absolutely hilarious that Bournemouth were happy to pay 4 million for this chap. I mean, he might end up being good, but he's barely achieved anything in his three game career.
Why should we pay £4m just because that's what Bournemouth had accepted? Liverpool let his contract run down, and by not playing him have proved what they believe his worth to be. They were only made to pay £6.5m for Ings who was significantly more proven in the Premier League than Sinclair.
Exactly my thoughts, the value surely can't be judged by acceptance of a bid unrelated to us when he was under contract and as you say they barely used him either and obviously didn't make him a good enough offer (if they did at all) or enough assurances his career would progress there to stay.
That's the crux of the issue and why it's irrelevant. Isn't there a standard fee set by the FA for taking youngsters out of contract from Category 1 academies? Something like £1.5m I think.
It will end up at 2.5 - 3m plus extras if etc - the range is clearly 1.5m best case to 4m worst and things generally end up mid point so that no one is either really happy or unhappy with outcome (except the case of Paul Atkinson that is!!)
Lol how can they base a valuation based on what Bournemouth offered? Muff overpay on everyone ... FFS they spent £8m on Tyrone Mings which is at least double what he's worth.
Barnes piping up again showing his lack of knowledge, he very much sounds like someone who hasn't watched us for years as we weren't relevant until we got to the prem and he could fill some column inches talking about us. We are doing the right thing signing him but everything else that has been done is wrong  http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/jerome-sinclair-to-watford-hornets-can-follow-leicester-model-with-liverpool-striker-transfer-a3255946.html My favorite part being "But I see Watford in a much different way than any other club because they got promoted in the way they shouldn't by having three managers in a year, lots of players on loan, who are not committed to the club. "It's not the right way to do it, but they did it. Getting rid of a manager when you are favourites to go down and finish 13th and get to the semi-finals of the Cup is not the right way to do it."
" Reds legend Barnes believes the winger is the type of player that the Hornets need in their team"... watch Sinclair be a big flop then.
Barnes is no Watford legend anymore in my eyes! Just like his spell in club management, his judgement and understanding as a pundit is well off. These facts are all there for us to see, so no need to say anymore. He would probably accuse me of being racist now.
You might not agree with John's current views on our management turnover, but for those of a certain age, his time at Watford will be remembered as spectacular. He (along with many other fine players), made you very proud to support little old Watford. Some of his displays were inspirational. If he has an opinion that upsets some fans, it does not take away, in my view, from the massive contribution he made to the club in the 80's.
I'm surprised Barnes doesn't have any insight. A lot of what he says is correct, but it just doesn't apply to the situation at Watford. He's just looking at we finished 13th, FA Cup semi final, and should not sack the manager if you do that. Also makes a big fuss over all the loans and managers we had last season. "It's not the way to do it" he says, and he's probably correct, but that's NOT what Watford did. McKinley was a blight which cannot be defended, the club c0cked up, but that's about it. All others were out of contract, resigned or ill health. How many loans did we have last season? Hardly any. Our run of form was so bad, with only 4 wins (3 of which was rather fortunate) in the last 21 games. The run went on too long, without showing signs of improvement, so it's hardly a massive shock that the coach is not retained. Ask Luther Blissett of his views on how Watford do things. He's far more switched on about it. I remember him saying something towards the end of last season that suggested things were not quite right at the club. He didn't expand on it, but it was clear he thought we needed a change of direction.
Really. My favourite part is I think John has finally found his coaching level if he's training Fred the Red and that daft Bald Eagle to take penalties in the pre-match build up
He never was in my eyes, he was not consistant enough! Yes when he was good he was fantastic, but he would often go missing for 3 or 4 games in a row and hardly do a thing. For me Cally was a much more consistant player and he could turn on the style just as well as Barnes, hence I always prefered Cally to Barnes!
Nah. Cally's last season was woeful. It wasn't worth sticking with him for ten games for the one he would win for you. When he went, which was what he wanted, is was unfortunately well overdue. The coaching team, including GT, said he would be out of football within a year if he left Watford (he had a weight problem and GT really had to work him to keep it down, and Cally hated that). Took a bit longer, but it was pretty much borne out in the end. That said, when he played for Derby against us, he looked like a Greek God, but it was not to last. Great, great player, and when we had him and JB on the wings we had the best in the country there can be little doubt. But Barnsey was a Pro, and Cally, seriously, was a frustrated DJ.
Cally was the last of a dying breed, best crosser of a ball with no back lift I have ever seen. Could land a corner on a sixpence for those who remember the cross to skim of Barnes's head to the far post diving in player (Rostron?) Ferocious shot Not athletically gifted but quick enough is his prime to do his stuff Shame Barnes has tried to airbrush his past and his comments are frankly embarrassing. As if we should dare to dream of anything other than avoiding relegation
Pundits always **** on about clubs needing stability to be successful, while ignoring the fact that Chelsea have won countless trophies over the last decade with a revolving door of managers. Heavens, they even won the biggest prize of all with a caretaker boss, who they then fired a few months later. Norwich went down last season and didn't change their manager..Sunderland did and stayed up. The bottom line is surely that different things work for different clubs. it suited Burnley and Hull to stick with their managers after relegation and maybe both will end up with promotion back to the PL. Constant changes of managers haven't helped Leeds or Forest or Blackburn BUT they have helped us. And that's the crux and if ex players are being paid money to write or broadcast about the game, I'd expect them to see different clubs are different entities and shouldn't be all lumped together as one in a lazy and cliched manner.
In his prime cally was as good as Barnes and got more assists but there was always a fat dj trying to get out......and eventually he did. Cally was seriously ill with cancer of course, anyone know if he's now clear ?
http://http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/Derby-County-star-Nigel-Callaghan-lives-mental/story-21120411-detail/story.html I don't have a good track record inserting links, but if it works then this article in the Derby Evening Telegraph from two years ago says he had been clear for four years but it needs to clear for five years before it's considered cleared. He's regularly DJ'ing in Derby these days so I guess he made it. Sounds like it was a really close shave, so an excellent outcome.
