he was right to be sacked. its the bbc, not dave. however i believe without clarkson, top gear is nothing.

i have absolutely no doubt in my mind we will see the trio appear together on another programme, nothing to worry about

just have to hope its a station with enough budget to create the same stuff we've previously seen

So you would have done nothing about the racism were it your employee?

You asked why he was on a final warning, your implication I took as meaning because of an issue you consider PC in nature.

So clarify, you agree that the BBC had no choice and there was no PC motivation on their part. Go on.

And a station who's sponsors are prepared to have an overweight, ugly middle aged man with yellow teeth as the star of the show who intentionally offends people with bigoted opinions.

That really is worrying if true.

I've never understood the fetishisation of cars. They're just a means to an end.
It's even weirder that people are upset about a bloke leaving a TV programme.
I was upset when Peter Purvis's dog died on Blue Peter though. I was about 5.

No let's clarify a few other things first.

You were talking rubbish when you said that Clarkson broke the Equality Act Laws.
You were talking rubbish when you said that I blamed the bosses for the sacking.

Now those are clarified maybe you will apologise instead of trying to change the subject.

As I have told you before, some of Clarksons bosses want him out. He has been disciplined for using some mildly racist terms off air (which were leaked to the public) and then, ridiculously, given him a final warning. If it happened again, then he would have had to be sacked for what is a relatively minor non PC offence. They would have looked stupid, vindictive and petty.

Clarksons recent behaviour has let them off the hook as they have been able to get rid, without looking so stupid, vindictive and petty.

Of course it was a sarcastic comment. As was my reply to your subsequent post. And this one. Between this and your nonsense post about 'punching is punching and not punching is not punching' people might be getting worried about you. Can you smell toast?

Well when you make daft, sarcastic comments, you should expect similar back.

  9. It's never really been about cars though, if it were 5th gear would be the successful show not TG

I can't understand the outpouring of support for Clarkson. I saw that stunt of over 1 million signatures delivered to the BBC urging them not to sack him, but are all of those people deluded??
How would those people react if their husband/wife/son/daughter etc came home from work and had been both verbally and physically attacked... would they laugh that off and belittle it? I'd assume not.
    I just dont get it.
I understand hes a high profoile 'celeb'.
I understand its a huge cash cow for the Beeb. But does that mean he doesnt have to follow the boundaries and laws like the rest of us?
If i hit someone at work, i'd expect to be given the bullet. We dont have tiered employement law that is a slide rule depending on your status, who does he think he is?
For the record, i actually quite like Top Gear on a sunday night, im not a car nut, but find it lighthearted viewing, but if there's anyone on here who thinks the BBC were wrong to sack him, can you explain to me why.

As i see it, there could only be one result from his actions and that should be dismissal.

I don't think he has said much else other than he expects to be sacked. He even reported it himself.

  14. wimbornet

True, but i guess my main annoyance is with the general public who DONT consider it an issue. At least 1million people seem to think its ok. How can they possibly reach that conclusion??

Agree with Wimborne. I enjoy watching TG and am slt sad it's over in its present format. However, no matter how big the star or integral to the success, if you hit a work colleague you have to be dismissed.
I like Clarksons tv persona, although I know someone who has worked with him and he hasn't a good word to say about him. Truth is he prob is(as he would say) a co*k of the highest order

There's more to come out about this story.

I think the BBC could have avoided this if they wanted.

I'm sure that the internet and press will deliver a twist that we don't know about yet

Really? Seems a pretty simple situation to me. Man throws punch at work, gets fired.

Given the prevalence of modern social media I sincerely doubt there's anything else floating out there. It was widely known that there had been a physical altercation even before the Beeb confirmed it. Covering anything up nowadays is almost impossible, as Ryan Giggs found out.

And still you believe essentially they wanted him out and he merely gave them the opportunity just because some disloyal suit gossiped it to you.

Yes I do. My friend gained nothing from saying what he did, and has no reason to lie to me.

You prefer to believe the official statements from the BBC, who of course, have every reason to be economical with the truth. Certainly they would not want to disclose the fact that the seniors wanted their most valuable asset out, would they.

But you just take it all in as gospel, don't you!

Next you'll be suggesting that Miliband always tells the truth as well!

    ...oh wait!

It's been utter ****e since they stopped reviewing and comparing cars, the Cool wall etc. for a while it's been a deeply unfunny self absorbed mess. I won't miss it in its current format vs how it used to be.

I just spoke to my friend who knows some BBC bigwigs and he told me that they have never actually wanted to get rid of Clarkson because Top Gear is one of their biggest earners which is internationally syndicated. Don't shoot the messenger.

What is your mate's role? Is he Head of Biscuits or something?

None of this is news. Is Jeremy Clarkson at odds with many at the BBC, yes of course. Have they moved on him before they absolutely have to? No. There is no conspiracy. Your mate is a gossip, no more.

Everyone 'ITK' keeps repeating this but you do know that the show is fantastically expensive to actually make - it's by far the most expensive "factual" programme produced...

What, more expensive than those nature documentaries with "I should've retired 20 years ago, but I've got the coolest job in the world, so I never will" Attenborough on them, which are so self satisfied in their production that they take up 15 minutes at the end of the programme to show you how they filmed inside a birds nest in the Amazon, using slings, ropes, pulleys and 300 cameras.

I've heard it takes £10mil a season to produce, but brings in £50mil revenue. Pretty big earner, whatever its costs compared to others.

I know where you're coming from "mate" - I've been campaigning for years to get full equity membership (and subesequent pay rates) for the animal stars of these "documentaries" and not one person has taken me seriously.

It's good to see someone comparing the timeless, televisual epics such as "Life on Earth", "The Living Planet", "The Private Life of Plants" and "Life in the Undergrowth" with such cerebral fare as "Top Gear". I've always thought that Sir David Attenborough's fronted shows would be vastly improved by a few casual rascist remarks - and how dare he film in South Georgia without a few on-screen sight gags about Argentinian war dead.
