Well done to a few posters in the now locked transfer ban thread for maintaining some sanity and not losing their marbles at the first opportunity.

The overreaction to it on here seemed remarkably similar to incidents such as when Forest Green's odious owner Dale Vince had an early pop at the club for our conduct in how we supposedly approached Edwards, only for it to turn out to be nowhere near as bad as what was first claimed by outside parties.

Meanwhile, Tottenham's owner has actually been indicted for years of insider trading!

Yet we and the Pozzos remain all that's wrong with football?!

Given some of the unfounded nonsense being spouted right now, I think some of us need reminding to give Gino a break.

I seem to recall a time when everyone was demanding, Gino sorted the finances out, that we got rid of players that didnt care and we had players that we could get behind. You asked that we give managers more time and have patience with them. You were also asking for Gino and senior management team to talk to us.

Well we had a mass clearout of players that didn't seem to care and were costing us a lot of money. I understand that the debt has been reduced, particularly the external debts. We have a team that are playing better football (most of the time) although the run of consistant good results isn't there yet. We have not sacked the manager when previously that would have happened, instead we extended his contract and his influence.

The experiment of Manga and his team didnt work and they have had the sense to say we dont need them. None of us can see a line of succesful Manga signings. Feedback from Billic in his Watford Observer article suggested that although they were good (previously highly succesful) people it made the recruitment process too crowded.

Gino and his team are talking to fans on a more regular basis.

It seems to me that Gino and his team have given us everything that most people asked for and still the fans are unhappy, the the bile continues and the Gino haters sharpen their keyboard knives and demand changes.

So for petes sake GIVE GINO A BREAK. Isn't this the time to get behind our club and team.

Apart from Sarr and the odd loan signing who went back as we weren’t going to keep them love to know which players left that they felt didn’t care ?

If anything the likes of Cathcart, Gosling and Kabasele were probably ones who did and Cleverley has got a job at the club .

I certainly wouldn’t say they’d care less than a Louza for example.

And do those that came in really care much more ?

I think in reality the clear out was simply get rid of anyone worth money or at the end of their contract or coming to it .

I'd pay good money to see Uncle Ron and Big Bad Bear engage in a YouTube debate.

In the red corner, the angry attack dog from Florida in the US of A. Specialist moves: Criticising the club for wasting £5m on Bayo while simultaneously lumbering us with £1.5m Rajovic, which shows no ambition whatsoever. DISGUSTING!

In the yellow corner, talking between mouthfuls of Gino Pozzo's Old Peculiar Handmade Golden Slurry (just £25.99 in the Hornets Shop), The Apologist from Amersham, he who can see no wrong, it's Big Bad Bear.

    Seconds away... round one...

I think this ongoing debate over giving Gino 'a break' can be concluded by handing him this.

I think that was more a case of it being the 10-year anniversary since Gino last deigned to talk to the fans.

There was recently some discussion about whether Bassini was an idiot or a skilled investor.
At the time he evidently borrowed £450,000 from his brother and persuaded some others to provide a £10 million credit facility - which proved enough to buy the club.
There are a number of fans who could have sold or mortgaged a property (or their granny) to raise the initial sum.
Given the (sometimes extreme) reactions to owners of football clubs by disappointed fans in this `social media age` who would really want to own a football club.
I have supported Watford for a lifetime but if I owned it would find it a deeply frustrating experience.
It is said that if you are a really good businessman a third of your decisions are positive, a third negative, and a third neutral - so given our fan base around 7,000 people will `hate your guts` whatever you do.

I just think that fans had a series of things they wanted to happen and most of them have and the fans are still aggresively running this anti Gino campaign.

I am no apologist for Gino, I can however see someone that has taken the club forward (anyone still want a 3 sided ground) and appear to have tried to do what the fans were screaming for. I have no hassles in criticising but make it constructive.

Some of the keyboard warriors are putting so much bile in their posts. Watford is supposed to be a family club, it might be worth remembering that sometimes.

He is probably lucky it is Watford .

Fans of other clubs really would be protesting hard and giving all sorts at games if they had fallen from 11th in the PL to a relegation battle in the Championship inside 3 years .

Most get worse for just losing a few games or one dodgy season !

People want to see a decent team to watch in the ground.

Anyone would have built a new stand tbh ..

Apart from the neat but very basic stand and a statue for GT what else has he actually done in reality that benefits the club long term ?

I think the "family club" tag has long since gone with Watford and that is mainly down to him. EJ and GT built the foundations of what enabled a small town club like Watford to be a main stay with the big boys, and we did that for a while and still are (at present) a top two tier club. When you get fans rightly protesting at home games peacefully and they get chucked out by a army of hi-vis wearing stewards, banned from bringing a thermos flask into the ground, dodgy dealings with what is essentially a used car salesman and all the other small things he has done to tarnish what these two built, it's not exactly a wholesome and family place to come anymore to watch football. Nothing will change for the better until he is gone along with the other two, but that probably will never happen unless somebody takes a chance on us and buys him out. I'll give Gino 'a break' when he gives the club 'a break' from continuing to tear down all the goodwill he had built up, and when he remembers the values and messages this club means to the fans, and at least attempts to change for the better.

I think we are lucky to have Bigbadbear as part of our forum. He makes some valid points and it’s interesting to read the opposite point of view, even if few of us agree with it, myself included.

Yes at first Pozzo made a big positive difference to us, and yes it’s also true that now he does seem to be doing a few things (maybe by default) that we’ve all been calling for over the past few seasons...

    However...

I see a club that feels very disenfranchised from many of its supporters. I saw another very underwhelming transfer window. I see a side in the bottom six, without an away with of any sort since January. I see a club with hardly any money to invest in decent players or in the past to pay bonuses or for lunches at the training ground or to pay our dues to other club’s academies BUT continues the nonsensical short-term panicking policy of firing key people and thus wasting money on pay-offs. I see an owner that maybe had good intentions and hired a well-regarded Technical Director to really change how we do things, only to get rid just a few months later. I see people talking money from our club (which ultimately comes from us) which looking in from the outside they have little right to lay claim to because they constantly underperform in their roles. Right now it’s hard to see much reason to be cheerful over the coming winter months.

I agree there’s no place for bile, but generally here I think most of us who oppose our ownership do so in a sensible, logical and well thought out manner. As a family club it’s why we don’t do mass protests or send death threats or damage people’s properties, the likes of which you do read happens elsewhere.

I like that someone is expressing a contradictory opinion. I think Bear’s view is probably closer to your average match going fan than this forum.

That’s not to say it isn’t completely wrong. It is. Gino is not offering any of the benefits he offered when he had a genuine competitive advantage with scouting and two competitive European teams with players he could readily share.

All we get now is the worst of the Pozzo regime.

But I hope that doesn’t put Bear off from replying as this shouldn’t become an echo chamber and everyone should be able to express their opinion (however terrible)

Is Bigbadbear actually real? I thought he was just trolling to get a reaction. No one can be that wholeheartedly supportive of the owner right now. The initials are BBB which is a nod to our former owner. I think that says it all. Decent try though, as he's reeled in a fair few.

None of us on here are real, in the sense that we are all mere words on a screen.

Somebody posts a standpoint that few of us agree with and it gives us all a chance to reply with the opposite opinion.

The issue with their posts, is amongst the other nonsense this is now fundamentally wrong. We are lower in the league and circling the drop zone, we have significantly more debt (saying you will be debt free, doesn’t mean you will be debt free and are currently debt free, I tried saying it with my mortgage, and it’s still there, just saying it will be gone sadly don’t make it happen) Our reputation is trash as far as hiring managers and recruiting players, and we don’t have access to the talent pool of two other clubs that we had when they took over, our prospects in multiple areas are now far worse that they were when Pozzo bought us.

Yes, he unarguably took us forward temporarily, but that has been and gone, he’s now taken us backwards compared to when he took over, that is a fact on every metric.

The ground argument is truly laughable, it suggests only Gino Pozzo has the skill to get a stand built, and in the past decade under any other owner the same couldn’t have possibly happened (or better) even if it’s was just because the passage of time and health and safety rules advancing made it mandatory anyway. There reaches a point where every club needs to do work to their stadium, or replace it.

Reading have a much newer ground compared to us, so do you think their fans are currently feeling grateful for their ground and happy about their current situation purely because of that?

If you truly believe he’s taken the club forward because we have a four sided ground, you are beyond help.

We have the same number of sides to our ground as we have points from our last eleven away matches, and as many Head Coaches as we’ve had in the last season and a bit.
