Here we go again - can someone explain to me the downside of requiring a strict testing and quarantining process for anyone travelling here from China?

I'm absolutely f**king certain you'll find answers to you question on twitter.

As an aside yesterday's excellent "The New Gurus" by Helen Lewis (BBC R4) had a piece on Layah Heilburn. She's an 'expert' (sic) on Bitcoin (amongst a great many other things) and a Brit who spends a lot of her time in the US as she prefers to be around mean who refuse to be both locked-down by government and have their freedom stolen and refuse to have foreign material forceably entered into their bodies (she may have been alluding to, what I believe is termed, 'bum-fun' but I think it's more likely a vaccine)...

MBNA vaccine early testing, research around three years old, is now being shown to have a 1 in 800 risk of serious negative response. Yet it was approved in the US. This information was not available, for no good reason, despite the fact that it would have been an important factor for people to consider when deciding whether to take the vaccine or not.

The CDC previously had strong views on vaccines not being continued where the risk ratio was 1 in 10,000, but it seems 12.5 in 10,000 is acceptable now a days. If that came as a result of Brexit, it would have rightfully been described as a race to the bottom on standards.

No wonder vaxfans feel that freedom of speech is an unnecessary right for people who may not agree with them.

Now, maybe the risk argument was justified, to some extent, with Wuhan and Delta, but if those numbers have not been improved, then the risk from Omicron may actually be greater, or in the same ball park, as those of the vax. Perhaps some people would prefer a few days on a ventilator compared to vax induced heart disease or clotting, yet there are many on here who would prefer the decision be taken out of their hands.

But go on. It seems vax fan may become the new anti-vax, some time in the near future.

That said. Choosing what you want to do with your own body, being neither pro nor anti vax, but possessing all the freely given facts, and being able to discuss them without being demonised either way, seems like a much more civilised way to go about things.

“But freedom of speech is evil Hooter!”

Carrying on from the flat earth discussion regarding the vaccine fundamentalists approach to reality, the regulator that oversees the ONS has declared in a letter, addressed to some anti-vaxxer loons who pointed out statistical bias in data used to promote the efficacy of the vaccine, that the data was indeed biased and not fit to be used as a measure of the effectiveness compared to no vaccine.

Does it mean that there were no benefits to the vaccine? No.

Does it mean there were more risks to the vaccine than the data was used to indicate? Yes.

Does it mean that data which should, at a glance, have been automatically considered suspect (it basically indicated a MASSIVE spike in non covid deaths in the month straight after the roll out) was being used to encourage vaccine uptake on false pretences? Certainly yes.

The only question that remains is whether you think it is important that people should be able to give informed consent to honestly given advice, or whether you think they should just shut the hell up and do what they are told. A poll perhaps?

I fancy the moderate 'right wing' of the forum, anti vaxxer loons to a man, will come out far more liberal on such a matter, with the neo-tory flat earther vax-a-mentalists proving their authoritarian credentials once again.

You have to chortle. Such a serious subject, yet so many people prepared to stick their fingers in their ears and go ting-a-ling-a-loo. Better get that muppet-GP back on Talk News again to tell the presenters how stupid they are for expressing concerns that we may have been misled. At the very least, he'll calm the covid-panic that some of us may be feeling.

It's another good day to be ignoring me.

Ken Dodd in a wig, Esther McVey, brings the anti-vaxxers to the yard by demanding an investigation into excess deaths (fair enough, who knows what combination of ruthless Tory incompetence is killing people, from NHS and ambulance delays to the cost of living) and rejecting the Government’s own explanations.

Everyone on the thread knows exactly what she means and who she is signalling to.

Can anyone else to the desperation and futility of that circular argument?

Mods. Can you move this one back over to the flat earth thread please.

And that's before you even get into the abusive and derogatory misogyny of 1970s styled comments about women looking like men in wigs. Very few people on this forum stoop to such horrible and unpleasant acts of male chauvanism. But that is what you are expected to tolerate these days when someone is telling you how progressive they are, whilst acting like the worst kind of gammon that they might describe.

What a nasty little post this is. And all because she has some conservative views, and despite the fact you appear to agree she has a point.

You have literally insulted a woman who ostensibly agrees with you because... Well because.

Yes indeed. Pure luck that. The people involved had no idea what they were doing. Lucky stroke like any other vaccine that it actually had the desired effect.

Err. Have a listen to Pfizer's own comments on their research "everything we did was at risk". Their latest vaccine has gone out without being tested on a single human being. So yes. We appear to be lucky, so far, and no, the people involved can only move forward with a best guess, which is what they have been doing since the start. Though why they even bother with that, when there are people like you queuing up to take whatever they dish out, I do not know.

I wonder if you are still having the jabs now Smudge. Will you be going for your next booster? Not looking for an anwser, I just want to get you to think about it.

Very ironic that you used the phrase 'lucky stroke'.

Really. The WEF not a world conspiracy? A collection of the richest elites in the world coming together to "save the world", influencing world leaders, businesses elites and international institutions.

I am worried about you. I mean, we don't have to take them seriously (in terms of them ever actually achieving their undemocratic and authoritarian goals), but there can be no doubt that they are seeking to achieve unelected global influence based on the fact that their narcissistic egos cannot see beyond the idea that they (each of them) are the most important person in the world, and couldn't possibly be incorrect about anything. Hitler, Mau, Stalin, blah blah blah.

You don't have to take them seriously (I don't any more). But there is no question that they are in the middle of their own little global conspiracy. They'd probably have a fit of pique if they knew you thought they weren't.

Seeing Claus Schwabbe presenting his ideas to a room of the whitest and most neurotic people you could imagine has a comedic value that views like a Monty Python/Ian Fleming fever dream, brought on by spoonfuls of double strength Calpol.

Pfizer can't stop itself from telling everone what a corrupt and insincere company it is.

    https://twitter.com/Project_Veritas...890612420609&currentTweetUser=Project_Veritas

A few years ago, that would have been taken seriously, but now a days, as this guy explains, the government regulators are so desperate not to do anything that might get in the way of them getting a job with big pharma, that Pfizer are permitted to be a law unto themselves.

So, that is Pfizer paintung themselves as the most scandalous abusers of unregulated capitalism (which, the abuse, is anti capitalist in itself) that a left wing extremist would have taken issue with twenty years ago, but we have vaxamentalists telling us that big pharma can be trusted not on what they say, but on what unscrupulous tv doctors choose to tell us they really mean.

Perhaps it's about time we started trusting the comments of the likes of Pfizer when they are made under oath, or in unguarded moments. But the establishment, and its neo-tory left wing gammon underlings, would have us believe otherwise.

Have a listen to what he says. And remember that I haven't quoted him at all here, so any negative arguments you are hearing are coming from a Pfizer director...

Seen a lot on social media accounts over the last few weeks about excess deaths. None of this seems to be reported in main stream media.....

No outcry, no investigation. All very bizarre.

I think it’s basically been forgotten about .

The COVID app has gone but they are still telling vulnerable people to get the vaccine.

Doubt anyone bothers to test now and even hospitals seem pretty lax on mask wearing now .

Really? Those on SM accounts with expertise in the data analyses must have found a conspiracy (ie the 'harmless' covid is actually a killer) as the most recent official published stats show nothing:

I wonder how prepared we are for the next inevitable pandemic. There seems to be no urgency regarding this. The healthcare infrastructure still woefully inadequate. Ditto for other types of catastrophes.

For those unfamiliar with Dr Campbell it should be noted that he is a retired nurse not a medical doctor. He received his PhD for developing digital teaching methods in nursing, including online videos.

    He's certainly not a virologist.

I watched some of his videos during Covid and I, as a relative scientific layman, caught a number of inconsistencies and non-sequiturs in his work. I'm no science nerd but I have at least a decent grounding from my educational background, and that was enough to spot some red flags.

It's important to distinguish that nothing he puts out is peer reviewed. If it was, I think it would be torn to pieces.

EDIT: I will add that the very action of running a medically oriented channel, calling yourself "Dr.", and then having no clarifying info on said channel description that you are NOT a medical doctor is misleading from the start. I think that would be pretty obvious to almost everyone on first sight so I tend to lean towards the obfuscation being deliberate in the pursuit of ad revenue.

TBF at the start of WWC he did some produce informative videos about hygiene procedures, minimising the risk infection etc. Unfortunately he wasn't getting nowhere near the clicks and shares that anti-vaxers were getting something happened and he went down some very nasty rabbit holes.

    upload_2023-5-25_10-45-16.png

To be really pedantic, I'm assuming the medical literature data, if presented in the same manner, from say 1900 to 1925 would show the same for "Spanish Influenza". Perhaps this is something for our, ahem, 'two-bachelor degree possessing wunderkinds' to research further... ;););););)

The Government is seeking judicial review of Baroness Hallett’s (Covid inquiry Chair) decision to seek Boris Johnson’s WhatsApp messages. It is the first time a Government has tried to block a Public Inquiry in this way.

Your first thought might be with the Government’s argument, that messages are private. But then that’s exactly why the Johnson regime favoured WhatsApp. They wanted their decisions to go under the radar. If they were just shooting the breeze and swapping funny videos of cats there would be no public interest but this was the way in which the business of State was conducted.

It won’t look good for the Government if it wins this and it will look shocking if they don’t, because they have mixed the solemn business of State, in a crisis, with the levity and candour of ‘private’ messaging.

I’m obviously missing something here. Johnson has said he is happy for the messages to be passed to the inquiry. So why is the government continuing to pursue a case which it seems almost certain to lose?
