Club Captain Next Season?

Following on from a post I saw earlier, who do you make club captain next year?

Who is a big enough character for the job?

I’ve got to be honest I’m really struggling. In terms of leadership we are really lacking all across the pitch. I always think defenders make good captains, but we definitely need one who actually plays.

If Troost comes back from his loan then he would seem like a sensible choice, but I’m not sure he gets enough minutes. Looks like Cathcart is out of contract and he has never really struck me as a lead from the front type of player. Porteous will probably get some traction on here but he is probably too young for the job and was inconsistent at times since his arrival.

For me it comes down to one of two players at the moment and it’s a pretty dire situation that I’m considering either of them; Gaspar or Kabasele.

Both have shedloads of experience, and Kabs is never afraid to say his piece. However he is never fit and his form can be very bitty.

It’s frightening when you look at it how there is just a complete lack of leadership in the squad. Definitely a contributing factor to our dreadful season.

 

Porteous hands down for me.

 

Not a lot of standout candidates but for me Porteous gets the vote .

 

We should make sure one of the players we bring in should be captain material as well as a good player!

 

I would’ve said Porteous but not sure you want a captain who loses his head as much as he does. Still don’t mind Porteous but hopefully we bring in a midfield general who assumes the role, a new captain coming in fresh could be nice.

Yep. Would hope that our captain is yet to be signed.

Having said that, the importance of captaincy is probably overstated these days.

 

How often are captains imported in from other clubs? It doesn't seem that common, seems most of the time they've been at a club for a while before being promoted to captain

Is he worth a place in the 11, though?

 

I used to do an impression of Brearley batting which consisted of 1/his wierd way of holding the bat as the bowler approached 2/A quick look in the direction of second slip 3/tucking bat under armpit and walking off.
Was Deeney worthy of a place in the 11 in his final 2 seasons? Rudderless after he left though.

 

I'd say Porteous. He's likeable, positive and actually tries. The frontrunners (Cleverley, Kabasele and Cathcart) shouldn't even be here.

 

It's funny how he never comes off his line, but if the ref blows for something he doesn't like, Bachmann is off like Usain Bolt to go and argue with him.

 

We all know it will probably end up being Kabasele. In truth there isn't a single player in our squad who deserves it, which speaks volumes.

 

Trying to over-compensate for his inadequacies. Feels safe to leave his goal line when the whistle has gone.

Agreed. He's an utter dweeb. Gets bullied, fakes injuries like no keeper I've ever seen before (pretty much every time he dives at someone's feet), goes telling tales to refs and does a lot of from-a-distance finger wagging at opposition players. He's a snidey jobsworth.

 

If some of our players with real talent had put in the effort Sema has, we'd have had a far better season, that's for sure.

Have never been comfortable with goalkeepers as captains, their job is awkward enough as it is without worrying about what other people are doing.

He wasn't worth his place back then but he would probably get in our side. He's fitter than Davis

 

Business has dried up sadly. Rather like Brearley's runs did.

 

What about Mowat from WBA? He captained them under Ishmael and there has been a lot of talk suggesting we might go in for him?

 

I was wondering last week if Leicester would look so rudderless if Kaspar Schmeichel was still in goal as Captain. They look like they're missing having someone shout at them and organise them, too passive and sleepwalking to relegation.

 

Cleverley will be club captain again I suspect.

Cathcart is out of contract and I havent read anything to suggest they have offered him a new contract.

Surprised people are suggesting Kabs considering he's often held up as one of the dead wood group with a poor attitude that we should be looking to clear out

 

We don't have any obvious candidates.

Ideally we'd sign a quality player with leadership abilities in the summer, but I'm not convinced it'll happen.

 

Cleverley is also out of contract.

 

We need to sign a leader whose guaranteed to be a starter as captain. We don't have one currently under contract.

 

He's been offered a new contract though, must admit thought he had accepted it?
