Looking better and better for “Out of depth” Rob.

Final will be a coin toss mind.

Boro hit their peak a while back, whereas Cov were still only level on points with us after our draw with them just five weeks ago. They all looked crestfallen at the end, after dropping points in the push for a play-off place. None of our players even cared.

Do have Coventry have any defenders who can challenge in the air?

On the radio earlier they said they’ve conceded the fewest goals from set pieces this season.

Not sure but least Gy*keres can help from set plays .

Luton will probably mark Hamer tightly .

I do yes. They might have a squad of quality but they play a nice brand of football and are a much nicer outfit than those cavemen up the M1. Luton are going to very physical but I think Coventry have proven over the season they can defend well as a unit and I think it will be a good final. If Luton do win, than fair enough, but I really do feel Coventry have a real chance now. Boro' were poor tonight, and they put so much effort into trying to catch Sheff Utd these last two games have been exausting on them. A good side for sure, and I fully expect Boro' to be challenging next season, but this would be a great reward for long suffering Sky Blue fans.

To be precise they would've been level with us had we won, and would've been on exactly the same number of points and goals scored/conceded had they not scored - does that mean they would've been still ahead of us as they beat us in the reverse fixture?

    11v11 league table generator

It's really surprising looking back at that to think not so much that Norwich were above them but Preston could've actually made the play-offs but they collapsed, albeit in a tough run of games (Blackburn and Sunderland at home, and Millwall, in-form Swansea and Sheffield United away). Perhaps they were in a false position?

Was always going to happen, call it destiny if you like. They deserve it and I hope it hurts Gino.

Guess you have to remember they did get to the play-offs last season too so not like it's totally out of the blue compared to Coventry.

Just teams like us and Norwich didn't play like one and they have.

I guess like we did in 1999 and 2006 up against bigger/richer clubs.

Sure Nathan Jones will try to take all the credit if they do go up.

TBH they only went down to non-league due to points deductions (might be us in the future!) and then kept bottling the play-offs.

    He won't care.

Our rivalry with them means nothing to him and he see and/or accept how laughable it is that the manager he sacked earlier in the season has gone there and taken them up.

I hope so and maybe they can fixate on Palace as their new pretend rival. No matches against Luton is always a blessing.

However, they are a much better run club than ours. Promotion achieved on the tiniest budget ever. Their 10-year story is a miracle. Their fans don’t deserve it though, as they are the vilest creatures ever to walk the earth, but the club itself is just fine.

Luton, Bournemouth, Burnley all in the Prem. How boring is that. Leeds/Everton/Forest? and Leicester are far better fixtures on the football calendar for us next season.

I thought there was a connection between Luton and Coventry but I couldn’t put my finger on it - then I remembered this (from the Wiki article on Luton’s 1991/92 season, their last in the top flight). Coventry were known back then as the great escapologists, but they also had their fair share of luck. Another interesting fact - Coventry were relegated to League 2 in 2017, 16 years after being finally relegated from the top flight, and likewise for Luton in 2008 (although they’d had an earlier relegation to the fourth tier when it was named Division 3).

“In order for Luton to stay up, they would have to travel to already-relegated Notts County, win their first away match of the campaign, and hope for an Aston Villa victory over Coventry. Julian James gave Luton the lead required, but two goals from County's Rob Matthews put the seal on a dismal season that had gone by without a single away win. Despite losing 2–0 at Villa Park, Coventry stayed up – Luton were relegated after ten years of Division One football.”

If you’re still a Gino backer and wanted Edwards out, then if Luton go up, you have to square that circle in your head of our illustrious leader directly contributing to Luton being promoted due to a decision you agreed with. You reap what you sew.

And so they should, as they finished a comfortable third, (if a long way off the automatics). Sheffield United, Luton, Middlesbrough and Coventry all improved on last year. Luton repeated their 21/22 campaign number of wins, but the five extra draws got them a higher total than the 75 of 21/22. Clubs that improve their league standing year on year eventually hit a ceiling. Not sure Luton have hit theirs yet. The club has a Vision, a plan to deliver that vision and a strategy to deliver the plan. It’s basic organisational management.

Sunderland would have coasted to victory if they could defend set pieces. Luke O'Nien is about 5'6".

Luton had no quality in the game and reminded me of Stokes Pulisball with less finesse. If they do sneak past Cov, they'll be labelled "plucky Luton" which will not suit them at all. Imagine if Edwards came in for Sarr?

Edwards signing Sarr and then he scores 35 goals next year?

It sounds like you watched the Luton game, and I assume you’ve seen at least one of our games this season. Edwards wouldn’t sign Sarr if he was the last professional footballer left on earth.

Try imaging Sarr being told to get stuck in , be physical etc !!

Thoought he was being sarcastic tbh ..?

They might not be pretty and easy on the eye but it was effective and exiting for their fans .

Compare that to the football we played …

How lucrative was the Premier League back then? Teams like Oldham (who even managed to survive a year in the Prem, pipping the horrendously unlucky Palace who got relegated with 49 points from 42 games!) and Swindon appeared in the Prem in the early years, but it clearly had no transformational effect on those clubs (you could argue it doesn't even now, but that's probably more to do with clubs spending so much money to get there and then survive at that level)
