Like others I agree that based on Berghuis's fleeting appearances vs Amrabat's dozen or so starts he has more to offer as an individual player. But I think that's missing the point.

In building a substantial squad, quantity can count for just as much (if not more) as quality, and whilst a case could be made for us being too hasty to let him go, we do have our fair share of players who are capable of playing well on the wing and/or playing as part of a front three, getting an assist and/or delivering a decent cross and yes that includes Amrabat, in addition to Anya, Sinclair, Success, as well as players whose more natural position is central but nevertheless can do a decent job wide, better at any rate than Jurado, Capoue or Abdi managed last season (Suarez, Guedioura). They may not match Berghuis in quality, but collectively they give us plenty of attacking options. I don't he is/was the be-all-and-end-all that many have been making out.

    Aaaand he's gone. My fault.

Now we turn to Nyom, Paredes and Suarez for salvation. (crosses fingers and waits for them to leave too)

I hope this means we are going to get a deal for a tricky attacking midfielder sorted very soon... otherwise we will lack creativity and be back to reliance on Deeney and Ighalo to set up their own chances between them.

Sounds like Abdi going has put a hold on things. I'm sure he'll still be off if we get our targets.

So if he stays is that well done QSF?

In other QSF news, widely thought to be behind Donald Trump's campaign. Believed to have faked moon landings as a six year old.

    One small step for man.

    One giant flop in Jurado.

Not sure why you are getting so touchy about QSF. He did a good job to get us to mid table but his lack of squad management was responsible for lack of player happiness and development in some cases. Bear in mind he would at times have 3 full backs on the bench rather than a Berghuis, Guediora or an Ibarbo. He was an extremely stubborn inflexible coach and there is no doubt that this was a negative impact of some of the attacking squad players.

Good news if true (as long as he wants to be here).

As I posted elsewhere, if you have 6 centre backs in the squad plus 4 defensive mids, it's madness to be getting rid of players who can actually score and create goals. One of he and Abdi maybe, but not both!

The best you can say for this is you believe it, despite Berghuis's poor start to the season and poor attitude. What's weird are those people now blaming QSF because Mazzari considered, or may have considered him surplus. Quique has gone, probably the right decision. Certain people in this thread need to move on. Then I won't have to take the P.

What on earth do you mean "the best you can say is you believe it". It is simply a fact that in some matches QSF went for multiple full backs on the bench and ignored attacking options. Last match of the season we were pretty woeful against Sunderland in the first half and does QSF give Berghuis a chance? No. He brings on Paredes for Cathcart (who for some bizarre reason he had played full back in the first place)

Do you really think QSF didn't poorly man manage the out of favour players last season?

Players are not happy when not playing. Do you really think Berghuis warranted a place in the team before the Spring? I don't and I think QSF made the right calls then. Why he didn't start him more later on I'm not sure, but maybe he had a good reason if he had a good reason before. I wasn't on the training pitch. Neither were you, but you act like you know all the facts.

But whatever Mazzari does now can't be blamed on QSF. That's the only point I'm making.

I'm simply pointing out that QSF was rigid in his faith to his favoured players even when they were under performing. The question isn't whether Berghuis warranted a start, it's how Jurado/Suarez did at the end of the season. This rigid faith obviously led to lack of opportunities for others, and quite likely resentment. I think it's understandable.

The only point I am making is that people can rightly question QSF's role in lack of development or frustration regarding Berghuis. I'm not sure it warrants funny comments about moon landings to be honest.

As you say from now on it is Mazzari's call.

He's a 'professional' footballer on 20k a week. He can get on with it and put up. I imagine that were he an employee of the railways on 20k a year you would say the same.

I'd sit on a bench for 20k a week. I'd happily rub it down and apply a couple of coats of varnish as well.

    I can't think of many jobs I wouldn't do for 20K a week. I wouldn't be Micky Quinn's personal masseuse. That's about it probably.

Off to Holland say WD Sport. Absolutely no way we'd sell Abdi and Berghuis without being confident of signings coming in.

I like Berghuis and think he's getting a bit of a rough deal. Nyom and Suarez surely out the door before Berghuis, if its based on number of overseas we're allowed.

Berghuis is an unfortunate victim of our transfer policy, and to me that is heavy recruitment season after season. It sounds harsh to call it a scattergun approach, but that's what it is. Such a mixed bag every season.

I can't help but feel that if we really put time and effort into who we sign, we wouldn't have to recruit so heavily every summer.

I think we're guilty of allowing Head Coaches to bring in too many of their 'favourites' which has bitten us in the ass big time.

Surely just Head Coach? Like it or not Jurado played the majority of the season where we had our best ever finish in the Premier League and now we've got our money back. Amrabat is a good player and seems to be having a decent pre-season and Suarez could go either way. Not sure how that results in us being bitten on the ass big time?

Would be disappointed if Berghuis left as he offers something different and in my view there are a few in the squad who should be out the door before him when thinking about the foreign quote.

As for transfer policy it is difficult to bring in your first or even second choice targets...... bigger clubs than us are having trouble with recruiting too
