If we slipped in and matched the offer and Townsend agreed to join us instead, that would be the fourth victory over Newcastle this season. That's just unfair. Best to let them have him.

Suddenly the goals in the highlight reel don't seem so impressive when you have to sit through the other 99/100 which hit Row Z

 

As far as i can tell, WD sport thought that we were going to be in 'pole position' for him, and seemed like their sources were telling them that he prefers here. It would seem the case is he doesn't want to be at Spurs anymore, rather than preferring any place to go. WD were pushing the angle that it could happen but that it could go to wire, however it seems things have changed and Newcastle have the accepted offer.

I don't see anything from the Watford Observer about him, so would seem that WD sport have got it wrong, but things move quickly in football so i am expecting a daily unnoticed winger to join (transfer deadline day normally sees a few teams budge on their prices)

 

We agreed a fee for Perotti so it means nothing until personal terms are agreed.

 

I saw a report the other day saying (though no direct quotes) the Spurs manager advised Levy to accept less than the £14m they first wanted simply to get him out of the club.

Whether that was to free up a space in the squad, the manager doesn't rate him, he's a sulky bagpuss or all three - who knows.

Or the report was made up. But the papers don't make stuff up anymore so it can't have been that.

 

It may seem like sour grapes now, but i honestly would not have been excited if he had signed. I think we are crying out for really good winger, which was why i would have tolerated this move, but i think Townsend is overvalued so happy in a way to miss out on him. Personal terms will be agreed with him as he definitely wants to move, unlike Perotti

Id have taken a gamble on him for £6m/£7m but £12m is ridiculous for a player whose only pedigree is a couple of goals in England friendlies

Newcastle have paid £24m now for Shelvey and Townsend which is just embarrassing

watch footage of him....two great feet, ultra quick, work rate and balance and technically at the next level to attacking players we have signed apart from Jurado....every incentive to buckle down to get back in the England squad and only 24....his career is likely to take off at his next club and he would have done very well with us.

Would have been happy if we signed him, but dont think he is worth 12mil. Newcastle might say that if he keeps them up then he is worth it. Sure we will bring someone in. Have said all along would prefer Phillips from QPR. Just my opinion. from what I saw Sat Newcastles problem is out wide. If I was them I would have saved the 12mil and put it towards a striker who can actually run
