Andros Townsend - Newcastle

Have a feeling that he will go to Newcastle because they are desperate to stay up so they will outbid us. If we offer £12mil I can see Newcastle offering the £14mil Levy and Co. want.

This has deadline day written all over it just like Adebayor does.

Can see us missing out on Townsend to Newcastle but at 11pm announcing we have signed Montero or Philips.

 

Newcastle have agreed a fee apparently. Townsend is playing for the under 21s tonight which seems odd, you'd imagine he'd be pulled out of the had agreed a fee. Wonder if we'll match it or move on....

Their local paper The Chronicle says nothing has been agreed for Townsend. May be a little fib from Spurs to put pressure on us?

Regardless of how good he is/isn't, I can't see Townsend wanting to go to Newcastle over us. They're staring relegation in the face and he'd have to move. We're showing a very strong likelihood of being in the Premier League next season and he wouldn't have to move. It would take a fat wedge to bridge that gap, I think.

Whether or not we have a bid accepted is another matter, of course.

 

cos of course the first thing Mike Ashley does when he does a deal is to ring up the local paper to wake up competitors!

 

Presumably the player has some say in where he goes - so you'd assume that, given that no-one would choose to live in or around Newcastle ahead of London and the surrounding areas, we'd be favourites to sign him. I can't say that I'm too bothered either way though

They're reporting what the Guardian are saying. The Chronicle have their own source apparently who says there's nothing doing. Who knows?

Cant see how Deeney, Ighalo, Amrabat and A.N.Other Winger are going to fit in the same team. Especially with Suarez, Capoue and Behrami likely starters in midfield.

Even if the fee is agreed, still doesn't mean he will choose Newcastle if we match their offer of £12mil

Wouldn't be surprised if he waits until deadline day to make a decision, just to see what options he has.

Shields Gazette say he's keen on a move to Newcastle, WD sport say he's keen on a move to Watford. I've no doubt some Southampton sh1t rag says he's keen on a move to Southampton while the Evening standard will no doubt run a story saying he's happy to stay at Tottenham!!

 

If this falls through we're going to have to work pretty sharpish to get a winger rumour thread up to 20 odd pages. We've had a tradition of great winger rumours, Perotti, Iturbe etc.

Frankly who the club sign I'm indifferent about, but WE need to act NOW.

Well if we want Townsend it looks like we will have to stump up full asking price maybe montero might be better value?! Makes me bloody nervous watford possibly blowing 14 million quid on a player that cant even get 1st team action at his present club!
