Almen Abdi joins Sheff Wed

I can't believe the childish reaction by some fans. The truth is that both Forestieri and Abdi were loved as players for WFC right until the minute they signed for Wednesday. It's pathetic to start downgrading them now just because they have departed.

I believe out club's ambition has been you replace them with better but let's be honest, they failed to do so last year and don't appear to have yet done so this.

The ambition to bring in alternative forward options was clearly not achieved last season and I don't see who is a like for like replacement for Abdi in our current squad.

I'm sure we will be fine overall, but it doesn't mean these individual decisions are correct

 

Nando isn't a Prem player. No Prem sides are after him. His best game for us was against Reading reserves. He was our 4th choice forward for a reason. I did love him though.

 

His best games for us were in his first and second season where he put in performances much better than that Reading game. In the third season he struggled with injuries and was behind three of the best strikers in the division. Last season he scored 16 goals and was by far the best player for a team one game away from promotion.

Would you have said Watson, Gomes or Cathcart were PL players this time last year? No PL teams were after them either.

 

Nando was incredibly unlucky in that he was in the same squad as Championship POTS Vydra, an on-fire Deeney and an on-fire Ighalo in three consecutive seasons. He might not have forced himself into starting contention, but the players he was competing with were all hammering them in every week. It's very hard to displace strikers in that kind of form.

Hope you get on alright at the doctors pal.4th choice,FF is a legend and played a big big part in our building to make the prem had 3great seasons with us tearing teams to pieces including sheff wed about 5 fives and I was at every game and witnessed it first hand and after each game sheff wed fans said every time to me what a player he is and addminted he was a different class and just to good for them.

 

It's way, way too quiet at the moment. Abdi leaving combined with this tells me that out of nowhere Gino is going to pull something ridiculous off.

 

I hope the Abdi deal is completed soon for the sanity of the poor SW fans - 64 pages on their forum in a couple of days and some appear to be on suicide watch.

The Sheffield sanitorium will be overflowing if Almen stays/fails medical/joins Leeds lol :jumping1:

 

I am suggesting that he was not good enough to really cement a place in a central role last season or maybe he wasn't given the chance and although he played many game was mostly out wide .

I wish I could feel as excited as the Wednesday fans about a signing we were going to make.

I'm sure we'll be signing Journeyman Number 3 from Napoli on loan soon.

He was 4th choice though. The fact that Deeney, Ighalo, Vydra made more appearances than him means he was 4th choice, whether you think he deserved to be 4th choice or not is your opinion, but he WAS 4th choice.

There's now only 5 players left from the 12/13 squad, the Pozzo's 1st season, and 3 of them (Troy, Murray & Holban) were here even before they arrived.

Only Anya & Vydra are left from the original influx.

 

From a sentimental point of view I'm gutted. Decided to buy a ticket on the door for his debut match against Palace and he was incredible. Looked too good for us at times.

I don't think he ever got a proper chance in the right position last year but I'm sure he still had something to offer. I do accept he wasn't first choice though and that he never really recovered from his weird foot injury
